50 Bookers 2025 Meet Up

MamaNewtNewt · 27/03/2025 12:44

Just setting up a chat to firm up plans for a Southern meet up and a Northern meet up.

Lets see who is interested, then firm up locations and dates.

I know there are a few of us who want to come but might not be able to make it, so no judgement at all for those who decide nearer the time that they can’t make it. Hope to meet some of you this year!

Your poor dh Terpsichore. Ouch!* *
A big flask, biscuits and a pile of books maybe?!

Am I being heartless?! I feel totally exhausted tbh as he can barely do anything, so I have to do ALL the cooking, shopping, driving, everything round the house….seeing you lot on Saturday is the only thing keeping me going 😂

BestIsWest · 17/07/2025 22:41

I had totally missed this! Hope you all have a great time. I’ll def come next year.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 17/07/2025 22:43

No, you're not being heartless. He will be okay for a while. And he can call you if needed, though hopefully not ;)
Worst case scenario, you have to go back a bit earlier.

TimeforaGandT · 17/07/2025 22:52

Definitely not being heartless, Terpsichore. I am sure you will leave him well set up with everything to hand. The break will do you good.

highlandcoo · 17/07/2025 23:37

Thanks for the good wishes everyone. We are heading north tomorrow to see my husband's friend, and staying for a couple of nights. It's the right thing to do at this point in his treatment plan; later might be more difficult for him. Sorry to miss you all and will do my very best to be there next time!
Hope your DH is on the mend soon @Terpsichore and wishing you all a brilliant time 😊

Terpsichore · 17/07/2025 23:38

Will be sorry not to see you @highlandcoo, but entirely understandable that you need to see your friend. Good wishes for the big move!

cassandre · 18/07/2025 13:20

I'll be there! Have just bought my train ticket. Now I just have to procure my book for the book swap.

I'm sorry not to see you @highlandcoo and the others who can't make it.

Very excited to see @Terpsichore and the others who can!

Thanks again @AgualusasLover for arranging it all.

noodlezoodle · 18/07/2025 15:41

I will be there, barring any last minute disasters!

How do we recognise each other? Is there a secret 50 bookers handshake or salute? Grin

Terpsichore · 18/07/2025 15:45

<rummages for Daunt Books tote bag>

CrepuscularCritter · 18/07/2025 16:11

Wishing you all the best for a great day. I will wave my Daunt Books bag from a distance in bookish solidarity!

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 18/07/2025 16:41

I have a fondness for tote bags.
I have packed my little backpack. And brolly. Wondering what to wear. Is it very hot and muggy still, Londoners?

TimeforaGandT · 18/07/2025 16:45

Yes, still hot and muggy but thunderstorms expected overnight so should be cooler tomorrow.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/07/2025 16:57

Hope you all have a wonderful day. I'm looking forward to hearing what you ate and what books you all bought.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 18/07/2025 17:01

Thanks! I think I'll go with light layers.
Dress like an onion :) * *

TimeforaGandT · 18/07/2025 19:48

I'm on RWYO so shouldn't be buying books - eek

MegBusset · 18/07/2025 20:03

I have new reading glasses, so after a couple of years of only being able to read on Kindle, I can now buy paper books again! So will definitely be on the lookout for a purchase or two.

Terpsichore · 18/07/2025 21:22

It might be raining, unfortunately. An umbrella definitely needed.

noodlezoodle · 19/07/2025 00:06

Amber weather warning in place! I am packing my armbands.

Am sure we'll manage to meet but am expecting to be damp and/or dishevelled.

AgualusasLover · 19/07/2025 07:40

<sigh> rain!

Hopefully the book stalls will be open, they are almost all under the bridge so I am hopeful.

Anyway, I plan to update here as I go along rather than risk missing people on email. So I’ll post when I arrive with approx location, what I am wearing or something.

Apologies in advance to all those I have met before in London and Manchester but will fail to recognise and absolutely will not be able to put names to faces (and don’t get me started on real names).

You all have my number as well, so I think we are all set.

First location from 11 (timings flex according to your own agenda)

1245 lunch location which is essentially the same building (it’s the sort of place you are obliged to eat)

I imagine very fluid between these two things to check out the second hand books etc

AgualusasLover · 19/07/2025 07:40

The sort of place you are NOT obliged to eat I believe - duh.

bibliomania · 19/07/2025 07:44

Have fun everybody!

Cherrypi · 19/07/2025 08:20

I've dug out my winter boots and currently debating between jacket and brolly or full on cagoule.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 19/07/2025 08:47

Have landed 🛩 It was a bumpy ride!

AgualusasLover · 19/07/2025 08:50

I do not possess: any light sort of raincoat (mum football duty extremely warm waterprooof only) or, apparently, an umbrella

Terpsichore · 19/07/2025 09:34

It’s that worst-of-all-possible-combinations: a) wet and b) hot 😩
