Released September 2025!!

OP posts:

My prediction is they will get together at the end. This is the last book so no danger or Mulder & Scully (and I’m old enough to remember Moonlighting) going weird.

Nope. There’s two more books after this one.

Lins77 · 28/08/2025 17:34

Not finished my reread yet (just finished TB and about to start IBH) so I'll be later to the party.

That's my understanding - No. 8 next week and two more to go, allowing for plenty of wobbles in between.

outofofficeagain · 28/08/2025 18:44

I’ll get my (very nicely cut, military) coat.

Snapespeare · 29/08/2025 16:57

Can't recall if I've said already - predictions: suspect the reveal at the end of the last one 'she thought I was in love with you' will be glossed over, Robin will get pregnant with Murphy on this weekend away - her fertility messed up through stress/starvation/ no contraception from her time in the cult. Murphy will relapse, Robin will have an abortion (confiding in Pam) Murphy will find out and either hit her or leave her. (If he hits her she will leave him. Immediately. ) Both Robin and Strike will continue to circle each other - he'll think it's not the right moment to follow up on his confession. Robin will be all over the place, but trying to maintain a front.

Snapespeare · 29/08/2025 17:07

And have read the full thread! I see I'm not alone in Robins pregnancy thoughts - also annoyed at self for calling Pat Pam I always saw her as Pat from EastEnders, played by Pam St. Clement, so habitually name swap them..

NotMyRealAccount · 29/08/2025 19:12

I've started another page-turning detective thriller, calculating that I'd have just enough time to finish it before The Hallmarked Man thuds on to my doormat. I forgot to factor in the rugby world cup coverage sucking up a lot of my sofa time this weekend.

drspouse · 29/08/2025 19:38

I have two books with library due dates but am halfway through the first and the second is v short.
But no spoilers please as I may not be able to start till next weekend!

We'll expect you to re-visit this post as the story unfolds and express your sorrow or exultation, depending on what happens. I should write down your predictions if I weren't too lazy. I have ordered at library but won't have a book or anything on Tuesday so I will have to keep away from the threads.

RubieChewsDay · 30/08/2025 11:42

Just a warning to be wary of spoilers around the internet, particularly Reddit, it seems that there are copies that have been delivered early and some people have finished the book 😱

the80sweregreat · 30/08/2025 13:52

Definitely avoid the forum Reddit and any discussions around the new book. There are a lot of spoilers on there as people have managed to get hold of some early editions.

upinaballoon · 30/08/2025 16:22

Thank you for the warnings.

I expect to be entirely wrong and eat huge slices of humble pie!
On spoilers: I know people spoiler as a political act against JKR - that happened to me with ink black heart and while it marginally affected my enjoyment, the plot devices, false flags and writing do a lot to mitigate. But I'll be avoiding all social media until I'm finished!

People buy the book and read the book in order to post spoilers as a political act against JKR?!

Seems.... ineffective.

Petesplumbing · 30/08/2025 20:18

If we’re doing predictions..

Dulcima Mullins is a Rokeby relative of Strike’s.

Robin will do a masterclass example of splitting up with Murphy which will involve the immortal lines ‘I think we want different things’.

There will be a hugely intimate moment between the partners, maybe a kiss, I’m more inclined towards emotional vulnerability though.

Will there be movement regarding the office being turned into a hotel?

Will we see one of Robin’s brothers?

Is Littlejohn going to be replaced?

I’d quite like Pat to let us know how Will Endsor and his family are doing.

the80sweregreat · 31/08/2025 14:01

I’d love Robin to mutter to Murphy ‘ it's not you, it’s me’ and block him forever , but I fear she is just too nice to use that old chestnut!

RaspberryRipple2 · 01/09/2025 13:10

I’ve seen the spoilers online though not read the details (I have read the excerpt of the first chapter though!). Going to start reading when the book arrives tomorrow but probably won’t make massive progress until the weekend.

My predictions:
Ryan will start drinking again either before or after he and Robin split up
Ryan and Robin will split up - maybe something interesting like the pregnancy predicted above, as jealousy/control seems too similar to Matthew
Robin will be getting some therapy from Prudence or a contact of hers, and it’s her turn for a lot of soul searching/emotional development
Possible threat from her rapist getting out of prison?
Further info/contact with Rokeby/Switch/Whitaker and learning more about Leda’s story

last two I think will happen at some point but maybe not this book!

outofofficeagain · 01/09/2025 13:29

I don’t think Robyn can go to Prudence - there’d be an ethical conflict

But she does need a bit more soul searching I agree.

RaspberryRipple2 · 01/09/2025 13:38

Yeah I thought that re Prudence as I was writing it 🤪

Civilservant · 01/09/2025 13:38

Are we going to have a new thread with spoilers for posters to post on once we’ve read the book?

outofofficeagain · 01/09/2025 14:45

Looks like we are! Thank you!

IamEarthymama · 01/09/2025 16:15

I’m counting down the hours now!
I did a relisten of all of the Robin and Strike novels in the last few weeks, finishing the Running Grave last Thursday.

I have been pootling around, listening to Georgette Heyer and Agatha Christie audiobooks while getting the jobs in the house done before tomorrow. Then reading a real book from the library in bed!

I am going into town tomorrow morning to pick up my preordered copy from Waterstones (we don’t have any independent bookshops locally) and plan to go for brunch in my favourite cafe and read the first few chapters.
On revealing this plan to DW she said, oh, you can’t cook on Tuesday then, I will make whatever you like when I get in from work!
I am very lucky that dyslexic DW understands how important books are to me and that the release of a new Robert Galbraith is certainly a matter of celebration!🎉 🎉💖😂

RubieChewsDay · 01/09/2025 16:17

Furiously updating my amazon order tracking, I predict it will arrive about 10 mins before I need to leave to do school pick up tomorrow 😭

Thanks for the spoiler thread @Civilservant

@NotMyRealAccount
What's the detective book? I love recommendations 😁
