Maybe it’s longer?

No, it’s 48 pages shorter than TRG. I think I’ll buy my copy at a supermarket as that’s where it’ll be the cheapest price.

Ah, that’s a shame…

I don’t know how you feel about Amazon, but it’s 15 quid on there to preorder?

Thanks, but I try and avoid them. I see it’s £15 at Waterstones so will perhaps try there as well depending on what I’m up to on the 2nd.

drspouse · 19/08/2025 21:50

I was going to suggest Hive Books which is where I often buy from but it's £25.95.

RentRaft · 20/08/2025 16:11

I'm going to order from Waterstones for £15. I try to support local independents but not at double the price.

Has anyone seen any signings events?

RentRaft · 20/08/2025 17:28

Are Waterstones not doing click and collect? That's annoying as I'm away with work that week so don't want delivery.

Might have to go for kindle then

They only have the click and collect service available when the branch have copies of the book.

"The Hallmarked Man features a case which Strike initially doesn't want to take at all, because it's connected to people in his past who he'd rather not deal with again."

My guess is that this is a Rokeby connection. It’s a bit tenuous, but from the Hallmarked man blurb;

A dismembered corpse is discovered in the vault of a silver shop. The police initially believe it to be that of a convicted armed robber – but not everyone agrees with that theory. One of them is Decima Mullins, who calls on the help of private detective Cormoran Strike as she’s certain the body in the silver vault was that of her boyfriend – the father of her newborn baby – who suddenly and mysteriously disappeared.

Then right back to the Cuckoo’s Calling, Robin is looking at Rokeby’s Wikipedia page;

Rokeby has been married three times: to art-school girlfriend Shirley Mullens (1969–1973), with whom he has one daughter, Maimie

Desp the slight difference in spelling, I’m reckoning that Decima might be Maimie’s daughter.

the80sweregreat · 23/08/2025 09:36

Maimie would be in her 50s now , so having a daughter Decima who is maybe 30 odd makes sense here and keeps the links to Rokeby open as well.

Excellent detective work! You could be right.

RobinEllacotStrike · 23/08/2025 09:41

Genius theory & link back to CC@Petesplumbing!!!!

i think this is a serious contender.

RobinEllacotStrike · 23/08/2025 09:44

Maimie could have altered her last name slightly to avoid being constantly associated with Rokeby.

More likely Wikipedia got it slightly wrong.

mylovedoesitgood · 25/08/2025 10:06

I’m so looking forward to next Tuesday! I’ve even swapped a shift so I can have the day off to buy the book and get going on it.

Lynz301 · 25/08/2025 19:01

I will need to have my head down reading as fast as I can - going on a hen do next Friday and not returning til Monday so will be itching to read this! 😂

HermioneWeasley · 26/08/2025 19:38

Does anyone know if you order from Amazon, is it delivered on 2nd or dispatched?

thanks

RaspberryRipple2 · 26/08/2025 19:49

Yep Amazon deliver on day of release (I had Harry Potter and the goblet of fire delivered via Amazon at 8am on the day of release back in 2000 - ah memories 😂)

RobinEllacotStrike · 26/08/2025 20:48

Argh I’m in london for work next week. I might cancel my delivery/pre order and pick up a copy from an actual bookstore on the day of release.

chuzzlewitthechipmunk · 26/08/2025 20:51

I don’t think I’ve read all the series but I’ve reread the three on my kindle over the past few weeks, pleasant summer reading lovely to see this thread…

I fear that If Robin & Strike get together it’ll be like when Mulder and Scully got together (deeply disappointing) but I am hoping for it…

This might be an even slower burn than the seven years Mulder and Scully took to get to their first snog...

Snapespeare · 26/08/2025 20:57

I've booked three glorious days off of work and will listen on audible while waiting for my Amazon delivery, then switch to hard copy once it arrives.

Cannot wait!

CinnamonSweet73 · 26/08/2025 21:32

I've taken time off too. Kindle and audible versions preordered so I can go for my walk and keep reading! Cannot wait!!

outofofficeagain · 28/08/2025 16:14

Can I join? I was on holiday when The Running Grave came out but this time I’m at work.

Hopefully noone will want to speak to me for a week.

I pre-ordered earlier in the year but surprised today to see Kindle version now more expensive than hardback!

outofofficeagain · 28/08/2025 16:16

My prediction is they will get together at the end. This is the last book so no danger or Mulder & Scully (and I’m old enough to remember Moonlighting) going weird.
