I've missed out on two now. I quite like the idea, anyone else?

OP posts:
Flame · 22/05/2008 09:38

I finished it Whispy!!! Will post today

whispywhisp · 23/05/2008 08:46

Thanks Flame!

Flossie....DH is posting the 13th Tale to you today. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Brilliant read. xxx

I'm now reading a book called 'Garden Spells'...its in the charts at the moment - anyone else read it?

whispywhisp · 23/05/2008 13:14

Flame - book came today. Thank you. x

CocodeBear · 23/05/2008 21:04

poor mehdismummy. feel bad for not reading her thread straight away .

whoever used to post to mehdismummy had better starting posting to the next in the list.

squilly · 24/05/2008 12:09

Hi all...sorry I've been away for a while, so I only took junk to read...I didn't want to damage my book club book....but I'll be starting on it this weekend.

Just so I know the form here, am I supposed to post comments on the book I've been sent? If so, where do I post them?

And am I supposed to post comments on the book I have sent out to you guys too???

Sorry if I'm a bit confused. There are times when I am most definitely a mom of little brain!

whispywhisp · 24/05/2008 21:28

Anyone ever read Cupcake Brown? I bought it today. I was looking at it whilst shopping in Asda - I can't NOT go and look at the books and a woman stood next to me said she'd just finished it and said it was absolutely brilliant.

Flamesparro · 24/05/2008 22:16

Go to the "mumsnet swaps" and there will be a thread in there to post the comments (although I seem to be chatting to myself ) you may need to tell us which book though to find out which thread you need.

Not read cupcake

Currently reading Twilight - it is FABULOUS! Luna will love it I think

squilly · 24/05/2008 22:19

Ooh...two new books to add to my hitlist... I haven't heard of Cupcake Brown or Twilight, so I'm off to Amazon to check them both out...

Flamesparro · 24/05/2008 22:21

Twilight says children's, but you will fall in love with main bloke

whispywhisp · 25/05/2008 08:38

Cupcake is....'A piece of cake' by Cupcake Brown. xxx

FlossieTCake · 28/05/2008 19:29

So it's the 28th today - posting day?

I don't have a book to post on as I didn't receive one this month

squilly · 28/05/2008 23:30

If you want me to cat me your details Flossie, I've got a couple of books going begging at the moment...perhaps it'll make up for your lack of book last month

I've got:

Cloud Atlas (Booker prize shortlisted...strange at first, but oddly addictive as it goes on and ultimately very satisfying);

or The Friday Night Knitting Club (one notch up from chick lit, but again, quite satisfying).

If neither of those strike your fancy, let me know what kind of thing does and I'll see what I've got!

FlossieTCake · 29/05/2008 22:53

Oh, squilly, that's very sweet! Actually it's not so much that I am short of stuff to read: my book backlog is now getting out of hand in a way that hints at some sort of book-purchasing form of OCD... and it is all on hold at the moment as I am reading stuff about or set in Florence in preparation for my FIRST PROPER GROWN-UP HOLIDAY, i.e. WITHOUT CHILDREN, IN ABOUT 10 YEARS. Sorry to shout but I'm quite excited . And we're only going for five days - just think what I'll be like when I can have a whole week.

Rosmerta, who I post to usually, may be in need - haven't seen her on this thread for a while though.

I guess one reason I put my hand up to join the book swap was to read stuff I might not otherwise have picked out for myself, so I feel a little sorry to be missing out there. But hey, it won't kill me!

squilly · 31/05/2008 17:06

I hope you have a great grown up hoiday....I'm almost envious, but we've managed a handful since dd was 4, so I know how grateful to be!

I'm sorry I don't know of any fiction set in Florence, but I hope you manage to find some great books! If you change your mind about Cloud Atlas it's a super book

I know what you mean about backlogs and the ocd thing. I managed to buy 20 books at the car boot last Sunday...all from the same stall, all science fantasy/sci-fi...and I was trying to break into new genres!

Hey ho!!!! I'm just drawn to it. I'll just intersperse the sci fi with the non-sci fi!

I think we're posting this week aren't we? I'm just finishing my book, so I'll send early next week...

CocodeBear · 01/06/2008 13:03

i've taken mehdismummy out, assuming she's no longer able to take part... if anyone has heard from her let me know, i've not been on MN for a few days.

If no-one's heard from Luna, I think it makes sense for MadHouse to post to Flossie, at least for this month. (This is guaranteed to get Luna suddenly appearing on the thread again!)

I will post my book tomorrow.

Just got back from my hols in the quiterainyunfortunately south of France. I think a week with both children and me and DH has been enough to send my parents running for the hills, they didn't exactly hang around when we got back

Flossie: .

I think your kids are that bit older than mine though, aren't they? One day...

CocodeBear · 01/06/2008 13:06

I also have the book-buying OCD. Maybe we should start a support thread? .

I even bought two books in French yesterday, one chick lit and one thriller-type. Wonder if I will bother to read them though? Seemed like a good way of resurrecting my theoretically good but rusty French.

I have well over 40 books waiting to be read on my shelves .

Flamesparrow · 01/06/2008 14:20

Is Room With a View in Florence (Vague rememberings... could well be a character called Florence).

I appear to be a month in arrears I have only just posted to Wispy, and haven't got a book from Psycho from last month yet! I will send one on as soon as I have read one

FlossieTCake · 03/06/2008 22:37

Room With A View is indeed Florence, and I have it in my stack, along with Medici Money (history) and A Rich Full Death (re-read, Michael Dibdin, crime fiction based around the Brownings and Dante and completely ace. Sadly I had to purchase a second copy as I can't find mine )

It is our tenth wedding anniversary, so I feel we've kind of earned it We have been away without the kids before, but usually only overnight - once for two nights (for our 5th anniversary).

Squilly, I loved Cloud Atlas too! Think there are several David Mitchell fans on MN.

My real downfall for uncontrollable book-buying has been the Galloway and Porter (local remainders bookshop) warehouse sale. As well as the usual slop, they have really decent literary fiction from e.g. Bloomsbury, Faber, Granta... plus a really good selection of crime fiction (guilty pleasures etc.) - and in their regular warehouse sales, it's almost all on sale for a quid each. WAY too easy to come home with a tottering stack.

I'm not going to confess to how many unread books I have on my shelves. Was finally forced to admit publicly I had a Problem last week when arrived home late from an event; DH was entertaining friends, and I had to admit that the stack of 5 jiffy bags that had come in the post for me were, yes, all books...

Right. Enough waffle. I haven't had a book this month so don't actually have a circle book to post on. In order to help put us back in working order, shall I pick something new and post it on to rosmerta? Also, I still haven't written up my last month's book as I couldn't work out which thread to put it in - wondering whether to just start a new one?

Flamesparrow · 04/06/2008 11:31

yay! I was right

I have no idea how many books on my shelf are unread I will read them one day, but I buy them, then people lend me them, and then I get distracted by something shiny...

I am lost as to whose book your last one would have been (Coco is on mine now which has confused me as I didn't think we were that far round!!!)

Maybe just start a new thread with the book title in?

I have got a book now, not sure who it came from in the first place - Psycho had 2 last month, so it is one of them.

Psychomum5 · 04/06/2008 11:54

ok, I am admitting here that the last two books I have had were hard reads for me, and I could not get past the first 100 pages on either.

I am either not in the headspace for them right now, and could try again later at some point if either books appear at the dancing school's swap, or will never get to them.

I have to admit, some books need several attempts for me to get into, 'we need to talk about kevin' for eg took 4 attempts, and 'the time travellers wife' is still waiting for me to re-try.

flame now has a book.....mehidsmummy posted two to me last month just before she had to go......am not sure if I have all that she did have or if she still has one tho??? I am guessing that at some point we may find out? altho she did email me and say that as soon as she is able to she will rejoin, she just needed to get settled fully first, understandably.

I have another book to read and then send on, but am having a couple of 'shiny light' reads first if that is ok, as my head has been too full recently.

CocodeBear · 04/06/2008 11:58

flossie have you had a mail from luna? she's just been in touch with me to say she has posted two books to you.

she has a new address, will pass it on to you madhouse.

Flossie, were you maybe reading Mad House's book? You could mail me the title again and I'll check with her.

TheMadHouse · 04/06/2008 12:17

Erm - Coco only just seen thread - I have posted to Luna this morning - SORRY

FlossieTCake · 04/06/2008 14:05

No, hadn't heard from lunavix - don't know whether she just doesn't get my emails or what... will post one straight on and hang onto the other for June (unless I really really desperately want to read both )

Coco, will mail you the title of my April book and see if you can tie it up - thanks!

CocodeBear · 04/06/2008 18:14

I saw luna's e-mail only this lunchtime. Maybe she has a forwarding thingy set up with the p office. will email her.

CocodeBear · 04/06/2008 18:18

The e-mail Luna sent me today has come from a different e-mail address to the one i was using before. Maybe that explains it Flossie!
