Don't post here if you don't want to know who dies and what happens.

You've been warned.

Yes, that's what I meant - that the story that Dumbledore's sister might have been a squib was in Rita Skeeter's book - so she was probably not very accurate - the WHO (Wizard Health Organisation) guidelines for developing magic probably say between 7-9 years, but sloppy journalists would interpret that as 7.

TheArmadillo · 22/07/2007 19:35

Aberforth has a love of goats. It's why everyone thinks he's a bit odd and I think he was actually arrested for it at one point.

LucyJones · 22/07/2007 19:40

Can someone tell me what happened to Cho?
How come Harry doesn't end up with her?

I had the feeling Cho was just put in as a last minute thought - just listing all the members of the DA.

I not sure if JK would have even mentioned if she was oen fo the dead.

You need a bigger gap than that Califrau ... the bit about Cho shows up on last hour...

TheArmadillo · 22/07/2007 19:59

dp just reminded me what exactly happened with Aberforth. He was taken in front of the Wizengamot for 'misuse of magic' involving a goat.

Does no one else find this funny?

I haven't read all of this thread but....

I want to know, in case I missed it...

Who the hell did magic for the first time?

I wanted a much better '19 years later'. Where are the Dursleys? Why did Harry & Ginny's DCs have such crappy obvious names? Who was Teddy Tonks living with and if he's having dinner at the Potters 4 nights a week at age 11 then why haven't they taken him in already? Or does he bite? What are the rest of the Weasleys up to - particularly George, he lost his twin!?

I cried about Dobby

the misuse was 'inappropriate charms' according to wikipedia. There is also a few more examples of Aberforth and goats on there.

Armadillo - Aberforth & goat is very funny. Even his patronus is a goat. Wasn't it also described as 'goat charming' in this book?

TheArmadillo · 22/07/2007 20:07

*

just read the bit about searching messages.

Ted Tonks I assume was brought up by his grandmother (Tonk's mum).

Dobby's death was the saddest in the book imo as the others were all grouped in a hectic part, where you were expecting several characters to die.

And I have no idea who did magic who hadn't done before.

TheArmadillo · 22/07/2007 20:10

entirely inappropriate for a children's book but if you read the wiki article on Aberforth it gives loads of other examples which I hadn't noticed.

"when Harry and Hermione host the meeting of students interested in forming "Dumbledore's Army" at the Hog's Head, the bartender is seen shooing a goat and looking slightly embarrassed"

"Hints of the connection between Aberforth and the bartender appear in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, when Harry noted a "strong odour of goats" in the Hog's Head pub"

and

" Dumbledore tells Harry, Ron, Hermione and Hagrid that Aberforth was not bothered by embarrassing news headlines regarding his having been prosecuted for practicing inappropriate charms on a goat, but instead "held his head high," and lived his life as normal ? "of course," says Albus, "I'm not entirely sure he can read, so that may not have been bravery..."

ok a bit obsessed with the goat thing, but I find it hilarious as so unexpected.

expatinscotland · 22/07/2007 20:10

But really, who thinks of this as a 'childrens' book?

OP posts:
TheArmadillo · 22/07/2007 20:12

IT started off as one.

I think it still is to a certain extent. It's about a child (well teenager now).

expatinscotland · 22/07/2007 20:13

Yeah, a late adolescent. A 17-year-old.

It's pretty obvious that after the first few, these books were quite dark and not really aimed at 'children' but more at teens.

And hey, we were all teens once, we know what that's like!

I'd have laughed my arse off at a goat joke as a teen. It's not like they're going to be 'offended'.

OP posts:
wolveschick · 22/07/2007 20:15

Think she should do another comic relief book updating all of the characters-like a friends reunited page for Hogwarts!

PS What about the bad language-b*stard and bitch and LOL at the bit about Merlin's saggy left...................

TheArmadillo · 22/07/2007 20:16

I assume it goes over the heads of the ones not yet old enough to understand.

AttilaTheMum · 22/07/2007 20:16

Teddy Tonks isn't 11 in the epilogue - it's 19 years later & he was already a few months old at the end of the main book - also it says he 'came back' to see Bill & Fleur's daughter off, so he has presumably left Hogwarts & is working somewhere.

expatinscotland · 22/07/2007 20:17

Oh, yes, the 'bad' language. C'mon! Do you really think the 13-year-olds who will read this book are going to find that offensive?

Do people just go looking for things to get worked up about?

They say bitch and bastard after the 9PM watershed on BBC, too.

[rolls eyes]

OP posts:
TheArmadillo · 22/07/2007 20:18

I didn't think of that.

I hope she was at least 16!
