Don't post here if you don't want to know who dies and what happens.

You've been warned.

Loved it, it was fab will discuss more later whn i have more time!

COUldn't of had a better ending, i lke that it was predicatable and i supported |Snape throughout i knew he was good!

PotatoOfDoom · 22/07/2007 13:04

I thought the ending was pants. REALLY disappointed with it. Right up to almost the end was awesome, then she went and wrecked it by being so obvious
sigh

The film should be pretty good in places however, especially the CGI for the wedding and the Big Battle at the end

FlameDelacour · 22/07/2007 15:45

The sword was the magic of the hat and truly belonging to Hogwarts kind of thing

expatinscotland · 22/07/2007 16:09

I agree, Cheesy!

At least could have made Harry Hogwarts Headmaster.

OP posts:
Freckle · 22/07/2007 16:11

No, she couldn't have done that. Didn't you notice that none of the Hogwarts teachers appeared to have families? If Harry had become headteacher, he couldn't have married Ginny.

katiebell100 · 22/07/2007 16:20

I thought the book was great, it supposed to have a happy ending, it's a children's book!!

I LOVED Molly seeing off Bellatrix's sorry arse it was my favourite bit, except maybe for Aberforth's Patronus

I was devasted when Dobby died, as the people at the neighbouring table in Dublin airport would agree and was shocked that Lupin and Tonks, bit the died I thought at least one of them would make it.

Only a true Gryffindor can pull the sword from the hat as Harry did in COS and as Neville has shown himself to be.

RubeusDuck · 22/07/2007 16:30

She didn't say what Harry's job was did she? I would have thought an auror would have been more fitting - in honour of Moody.

Dahlia · 22/07/2007 17:03

I thought it was brilliant, very exciting, but the ending was a slight anticlimax - I really wanted her to do a 'jackie collins' and say in the last chapter what happened to each of the main characters, ie : Luna Lovegood married Dean Thomas, McGonagall became headmistress, Neville's gran became 2nd in command at the ministry, George carried on with his chain of Weasley's Wizzard Wheezes in partnership with Lee Jordan, Umbridge got sacked and ended up begging in the streets, etc etc. I also wanted to know what Harry ended up doing for a career!
But loved so many bits - Mrs Weasley taking Bellatrix down, Dobby's rescue of everyone in the cellar, Hermione's beaded bag, Hermione's wreath at James and Lily's grave, McGonagall's charge down the corridor with the desks, and best line has to be "he can move faster than Severus Snape confronted with shampoo he wants to".
I must also confess to be most upset at the deaths of Hedwig and Dobby, rather than the humans.
ps. I got the adult cover of the book too - will happily swop it with anyone who has the children's cover, as that was the one I wanted but my buyer forgot!!

expatinscotland · 22/07/2007 18:57

I can't believe she knocked off Hedwig!

OP posts:
filchthemildmanneredjanitor · 22/07/2007 18:58

oh hedwigg would have been too much of a burden to carry round and keep concealed. it's only an owl fgs!

rosmerta · 22/07/2007 19:00

Did anyone else think Neville was great? And Molly as well, love that she finally threw off her housewifely duties!

filchthemildmanneredjanitor · 22/07/2007 19:01

yes! molly has always seemed very homely and motherly and just doing domestic spells and it was great to see what she was really capable of!

tribpot · 22/07/2007 19:01

A true Mumsnetter - attack our children and you will know the real meaning of retribution!

expatinscotland · 22/07/2007 19:02

Why didn't she pair Neville up with someone?

I think he deserved at least that.

Was cool how he killed Nagini, though.

And I always like Kreacher.

OP posts:
rosmerta · 22/07/2007 19:06

I think Neville at the end had a lot of admirers so don't think he'll do too badly

FlameDelacour · 22/07/2007 19:08

"Its only an owl"

How could you?!?!!?

filchthemildmanneredjanitor · 22/07/2007 19:08
Grin
expatinscotland · 22/07/2007 19:10

Hedwig was a beautiful, snowy owl given to Harry from Hagrid.

She did so much for him.

OP posts:
filchthemildmanneredjanitor · 22/07/2007 19:10

yeah yeah but still......

expatinscotland · 22/07/2007 19:11

And also book 7 said magic ability presents itself by the age of 7 or the person is considered a Squib.

But Neville didn't show any magic until he was 8.

OP posts:
AttilaTheMum · 22/07/2007 19:22

Yes, but Nevill was pretty much considered a squib, wasn't he?
And wasn't it Rita Skeeter who said that? (DS is currently reading the book so I can't check)
I would rate Rita Skeeter's knowldedge of child development on a par with some of the HV's mentioned in MN....

expatinscotland · 22/07/2007 19:25

Yes, Neville was given up for a Squib. Then when he was 8 he bounced when dropped from a window.

However, in book 7, it's first put forth that Dumbledore's sister was a Squib because she reached the age of 7 and had no magic about her.

Dobby's death was the saddest part

The house elves were great in this. Kreacher's redemption. Them all going at the death eaters with kitchen knives.

I liked the bit about Kreacher where they pointed out that although Narcissa and Bellatrix and others were nasty pieces of work they were all nice to him, whereas Sirius was a bastard to him. Therefore his loyalty was to them, not Sirius.

I'm not particularly fond of Sirius tbh.

And I'm glad Neville got to kill Nagini, and to pull the sword out of the hat. He deserves to be honoured as much as Harry imo, he's gone through just about as much and is just about as tough as Harry.

I thought Draco should have been redeemed at the end of the book though. He really was broken by the start of this one.

TheArmadillo · 22/07/2007 19:28

Oh and I knew I was right about Snape.

And Aberforth's goat erm 'obsession' makes me ROFL. Especially when his patronus was a goat.

Dahlia · 22/07/2007 19:31

What was his goat obsession? Did I miss something?
