Don't post here if you don't want to know who dies and what happens.

You've been warned.

Don't think she really needs more money tho, does she???

bookwormtailmum · 04/08/2007 21:12

Wouldn't have thought so .

Oh yeah, don't know if this has been mentioned but JK has evidently watched Bedknobs and Broomsticks (where the suits of armour line up to defend England) as well as reading the last book of the Narnia series quite closely. Allegedly. Still a good read to the end though even with my dp moaning and groaning at me reading til all hours .

tigerschick · 05/08/2007 09:43

Ah - someone else with an unsypathetic dh - mine rolls his eyes and sighs deeply whenever I stray towards the book shelves

MrsWeasley · 05/08/2007 12:40

I have a dh like that too. He hasnt read a book in all the time I've known him He much prefers to watch the tv!

MrsWeasley · 05/08/2007 12:45

BoM: your thread was absolutely hilarious. I really made me ROFL several times.

tigerschick · 05/08/2007 12:59

My dh reads the paper and rugby magazines. He read Martin Johnson's autobiography, but it took him about 6 months. It's mostly because he also prefers the tv and reading tends to send him to sleep! I do feel a bit guilty when I'm completely emmersed in a book, but when he starts making sly comments to dd about how there's no point talking to me when I'm reading ... well, all guilt seems to fly away

tigerschick · 05/08/2007 14:20

BOM - have you seen there is a Leicestshire meet-up thread? Thought I'd let you know
Off to read some more of that "if hp characters posted on MN" thread ...

boogiewoogie · 05/08/2007 15:58

Thank you Mrs Weasley for the link!

MrsWeasley · 05/08/2007 17:15

bw: you're welcome

Katiekin · 06/08/2007 01:04

I loved the final book apart from the epilogue bit and in answer to one or two of you who are bereft that there is nothing more to read, may I suggest Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer or His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman, both of which are a little Harry Potterish in there own way

Katiekin · 06/08/2007 01:05

I mean 'their own way'

tigerschick · 06/08/2007 07:48

Hi katiekin - glad to see another Artemis Fowl enthusiast - love it. Lots of people say that His Dark Materials is (are?) good - must look out for that.

LazyLineLegilimens · 06/08/2007 08:00

tiger, the dark materials books are very good. What I like about them is that they are re-readable, which I don't get with the HP books, especially with the early ones.

rosmerta · 06/08/2007 09:45

I'm also a fan of the HDM books, they're heartbreaking as well!

Not read the Artemis Fowl ones, must keep an eye out!

skay · 06/08/2007 11:09

Just reading through the DH for the second time. Have got to the point where they have just visited Luna's father.
Harry says that the Marvolo Gaunt had the Ring with the Peverall coat of arms on it. It had been in their family for centuries.
Later on Hermione deduces that Harry is a decendant(sp?) of Ignotus Peverall.

So does that mean that Harry and Voldemort are distantly related?????

LazyLineLegilimens · 06/08/2007 11:22

skay, yes, JKR has confirmed as much in interview.

Most wizarding families are related.

tigerschick · 06/08/2007 15:09

Yes, they are related but very distantly because there are so many generations between them and the Peverells.

tigerschick · 06/08/2007 15:16

Oops - posted too early ... meant to say ...

Rosmerta - Artemis Fowl is a boy-genius who discovers that there are faries. Not cute little things like flower faries, but clever, cunning, technologically advanced faries. AF gets mixed up with them in all sorts of ways - too much detail to put here, there are 5 books so far. They are very different from HP in many ways but probably appeal to a very similar audience - I like them anyway!! link to website.

tigerschick · 06/08/2007 15:19

of course that is meant to say fairies - repeatedly

MrsWeasley · 06/08/2007 15:43

Thanks for that. Will look into those I am lost an nights without a good book and everything else I pick up just doesnt grab me like HP7 did.

AnnieOleHouseElf · 06/08/2007 17:03

Hi MrsWeasley,
I is hoping that coffee kept re-freshing itself while I was reading.
I is still grieving for my friend Dobby

He is saving Harry Potter's life though

Winky is back on the Butterbeer now...

MrsWeasley · 06/08/2007 17:10

Annie I have been so worried about you.

The coffee is still going strong, thank you and if it makes winky feel better tell her I am on the hard stuff since the sad, oh so sad ending our the wonderful dobby. Never again will we see those big shiny eyes.

At least he died an honourable death and saving his hero Harry Potter.

Good to see Kreacher has reformed

Did you enjoy the read ?

LazyLineLegilimens · 06/08/2007 17:28

Dobby's death was definitely the saddest

rosmerta · 06/08/2007 18:44

Thanks tigerschick, will have a look at them!

Dobby's death was v v sad but I think Fred's was the one that shocked me more than any others

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 06/08/2007 20:39

Also please please try the Abhorsen books by Garth Nix (Sabriel, Lirael and Abhoresen). They are fab and really original. Also Pullman's Sally Lockhart books are worth a read (Ruby in the Smoke, The Shadow in the North, Tiger in the Well and The Tin Princess).
The deaths are all terribly sad but Harry going bravely to his death gets me every time. On the re-read it was clear Fred was going to die - he gets loads more lines than George and he even says the fatal "When I get married..."
