Don't post here if you don't want to know who dies and what happens.

You've been warned.

Have read it now, enjoyed it, much darker than all the others put together. I like the sheer humanism of the books.

Oh, don't read on if you haven't finished the book yet...

But I do agree a bit with what someone said on a blog about how fantasy novels always imply that you meet your Twue Luv when you're about 13... and who did Draco marry?

expatinscotland · 21/07/2007 23:30

For Tinker:

All the people who snuffed it in the last book:
Mad Eye Moody
Tonks and Lupin
Bellatrix Lestrange
Voldemort
Severus Snape
Colin McCheevy or whatever the hell his surname is
Fred Weasley
Charity Burbage
A bunch of Death Eaters
Dobby the house elf
Hedwig the Snowy Owl

Add on any I left out.

expatinscotland · 21/07/2007 23:31

Because in fantasy you're reading it as an escape from all the bullshit of teh REAL dating and relationships world .

OP posts:
Freckle · 21/07/2007 23:36

Lupin and Tonks

Freckle · 21/07/2007 23:36

ooops, missed that you'd already included them because you put them the other way round. Duh.

expatinscotland · 21/07/2007 23:37

but they leave behind a part-werewolf baby, Ted/Teddy, named after her dad.

and at the end of the book, he's getting together with fleur and bill's daughter.

pass the bucket, it's 'The Return of the King', part II.

Tinker · 21/07/2007 23:37

Ta expat. Ok, will accept that Death of Dobby might be sad (ish)

expatinscotland · 21/07/2007 23:38

She killed off Hedwig?!

I mean, WTF?!

I was really depressed about that .

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 21/07/2007 23:38

Doby was killed by Bellatrix's knife.

It was really sad.

I have just finished. My whole mind is spinning (partly by the realisation the whole thing took me abtou 3 and three quarter hours).

Will now read the thread .

IdrisTheDragon · 21/07/2007 23:57

No, that was slightly wrong. 4 and a half hours. In bits. Now my brain is too awake to go to sleep...

doyouwantfrieswiththat · 21/07/2007 23:59

damn shame about Hedwig then...I really loved that owl (sob)

had a spokeswoman for childline on TV saying they would put extra staff on to cope with kiddies who might be grieving for the characters who died......!!!

Enjoyed it, but felt the half blooded prince and order of the pheonix were a lot better (a lot darker as well).

Not at all sure about that final off to Hogwarts scene.

Rather pleased snape turned out the way he did.

LucyJones · 22/07/2007 08:37

anyone think there might be a spin off with Harry's children and Malfoy's kids at Hogwarts?

constancereader · 22/07/2007 09:14

I thought it was really good. Much better than OOTP. I was right about Harry being a Horcrux too.

Feel slightly weird about the King Arthur thing and the Jesus theme. Can't decide if it was really good or a bit..you know...

FlameDelacour · 22/07/2007 09:57

Was anyone actually surprised by any of the contents?

Most of it had been discussed and agreed on before (RAB, Harry as Horcrux, Snape good etc). Even Dumbledore's past wasn't a huge surprise (had been discussing in the queue with Psycho that Dumbledore would have a darker past like Ripper/Giles in Buffy and could lead to spin off books "Albie, the Early Years!")

I think the only thing that surprised me much was Hedwig!!!

constancereader · 22/07/2007 10:05

I suppose there was not much to surprise, but a lot to enjoy. I thought it panned out very well. I was afraid it would be a let down, and it wasn't.

motherinferior · 22/07/2007 10:50

Hell yeah, I agree with the point about Meeting Your True Lurve at 11, oh we all know how well that works out usually, do we not[hmmm]

However, my friends, you have missed the real moral of this tale, which is...

NEVER UNDERESTIMATE A RED-HEADED WOMAN.

Did you note, gentle readers, that Harry's mum in flashback has 'long dark red hair'? And let's hear it for Mrs Weasley, red haired middle aged mother extraordinaire, destroying Voldemort's most trusty henchwoman (and therefore making it possible for Harry to pop Voldemort's clogs) with one cry of BITCH!!!

Blandmum · 22/07/2007 10:55

And iir they were not tall red haired women either!

So are we casting you and Ginnie or Molly????

motherinferior · 22/07/2007 10:57

Ahem, I reckon my Ginny days are a bit past. But I was very impressed with Mrs W. I am Molly, hear me roar!

I did rather love the bit where everyone gets together to join in the final chorus - sorry, I mean battle.

FlameDelacour · 22/07/2007 11:14

It was like an anniversary episode of neighbours, with Helen Daniels, Madge, Scott n Charlene turning up

allmytimeonmumsnet · 22/07/2007 11:42

I enjoyed it. Was shocked by Hedwig but suppose he couldn't have lugged her around in her cage all the time.

Was really moved by Dobby's death.

Wasn't sure where the sword came from at the end? Did the goblins come back or was Neville meant to have pulled it out of the air like Harry pulled it out of the hat?

Wasn't Bill bitten by a werewolf? Does that mean the his child getting together with lupins child is going to produce a very hairy infant!

Thought the metting with Dumbledore/ near-death experience was a bit corny but liked the line about it all being in his head but still real.

Liked the idea of the epilogue but thought it was a bit weak. It would have been good to have a lot more humour at the end after all the bloodshed and drama, stuff about Teddy being an orphan and Harry the godfather etc. Thought that last bit was rushed when it could have finished it all off nicely.

RubeusDuck · 22/07/2007 11:42

What was the significance of the wailing baby when he was "dead" talking to Dumbledore, anyone know?

I kind of assumed it was the part of Voldemort attached to Harry that was now dead, but wasn't 100% sure...

MissGrissindor · 22/07/2007 11:58

RubeusDuck, I thought that too!

I enjoyed it. It was quite cheesy in some parts but still enjoyable.

Poor Hedwig and Dobby. I had a tear in my eye too when Harry was going off to face his death and asked his mum to stay close to him
