Don't post here if you don't want to know who dies and what happens.

You've been warned.

I think the scene in St Mungo's is so very sad - the sweet wrapper bit has me on the verge tears every time I read it. It's worse for poor Neville because it's in front of Harry, Ron and Hermione. Harry already knows what happened to Neville's parents because he saw Bellatrix being tried in Dumbledore's pensieve. But Ron and Hermione haven't a clue - and Neville doesn't know that Harry knows.

In the film they get round all that by having Neville tell Harry all about his parents when the 2 of them are alone in the Room of Requirement. It's touching but I wish they had stuck more to the original scene - except that would have meant that Lockhart had to be in it and I guess they were short of time ...!

The most important thing about Neville really is, as Califrau says, that the prophecy could have meant him or Harry in equal measures. It was Voldemort who caused it to mean Harry by choosing him - but I don't know what lead him to that decision.

fawkeoff · 03/08/2007 18:41

well really it was snape that told v about the prophecy, and v assumed that it was the potters son that had to die and not the longbottoms.I think nevilles had as much a tough upbringing as harry tho. his grandmother was always putting him down saying he wasnt a patch on his parents......he was always striving for affection and only got it once he fought at the ministry in the order of the phoenix.I know what u mean about the sweet wrapper thing makes me blub.do u think his mum kind of knew he was her son or was she just giving it him cos she didnt want it.......i thought it was a gesture....sorry babbling tripe again

Agree Califrau - made me grin
I think that the sweet wrapper was meant as a present. It was Christmas day after all.

fawkeoff · 03/08/2007 19:07

i thought that 2,kind of pleased for neville in a way tho,cos she kind of knew who he was...still so sad tho.his granmother is a feisty old lady tho isnt she!!!!

rosmerta · 03/08/2007 20:15

I liked Neville's gm joining the battle, thought that was good!

tigerschick · 03/08/2007 20:53

Also liked the bit where the Death Eaters went to try and kidnap his gran and she put 2 of them in hospital and went on the run!!
It's Super-Gran all over again!

BigGitDad · 03/08/2007 21:06

Thank you to those for replying, especially Califrau as tomorrow may not be a good day for you if England beat Wales, you might want to retire to that hot tub of yours for a little R&R!!!

oh Thanks I wasnt here then so will have a little look when I get a minute! Havent read the fake DH thread yet

tigerschick · 04/08/2007 07:49

MrsW - it's worth a read Even if it's just for a giggle now.

Drunken Sailor - I went trawling thru the archives a while ago and found a thread about how the HP hype was getting out of control - and that was in 2001!!! I wonder what the people who were posting then think about the way things have gone in the last 6 years

Califrau - sadly I have a feeling that this is going to end in tears for the men in white But I'm staying positive, for now ... "Swing low, sweet chariot ..."

BandofMothers · 04/08/2007 09:02

Is the fake DH still going??
We could keep doing it and write it our way

Or, maybe not.

tigerschick · 04/08/2007 10:24

I think I'd find it much harder now as I would want to steer it in the direction that the real one went.

Feel free to carry on tho if you like - I'll enjoy reading it

rosmerta · 04/08/2007 14:45

tiger, I've just got your name!!!!!

I reckon England will do ok [fingers crossed]!

boogiewoogie · 04/08/2007 14:56

What fake DH thread? What have I missed?!

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 04/08/2007 15:20

Some of the HP obsessives started their own version of DH in the week before the real one came out, taking it in turns to write a paragraph. Sadly am not clever enough to add anything but it was very very good.

MrsWeasley · 04/08/2007 19:17

boogieWoogie: here is the link to the Fake Hallows.

Here is another one that has caused a few laughs (well it kept me laughing anyway)If HP characters posted on mn what would they post.

Enjoy and feel free to add more.

BandofMothers · 04/08/2007 20:44

Mrs w, I love that thread of mine.

Heheeee.
Pity we couldn't do more of the Fake DH before it came out.

bookwormtailmum · 04/08/2007 20:48

I finished this the other day - I laughed when Snape flew through the window to rejoin Voldemort (much to my dp's puzzlement - when I read the line to him, he just looked baffled ) and I started crying when his parents, Sirius and Lupin turned up to escort him to see Voldemort and when Dumbledore congratulated him on being a brave man. sob.

Fabby though - I feel as though it was 'finished' off properly - I hope she doesn't revisit them later on to make more money.
