Don't post here if you don't want to know who dies and what happens.

You've been warned.

Fawke, hadn't thought of it like that.
He asked for somewhere to hide it and maybe that's what everyone else asked for too.

MadEyemarthamooDy · 27/07/2007 20:15

I think you'd have to pass that off as his sheer arrogance (Voldemort and the Room of Requirement I mean). Didn't quite ring true though.

I thought the epilogue seemed very tacked on and rushed - though I was glad it was there as I do like a happy ending. Hope she really does do an encyclopaedia because I would love to know what they all got up to in the intervening years. I thought Harry might play Quidditch for England - I remember a line about him being better than Charlie Weasley who could have played for England if he'd wanted to.

Also wanted to know how on earth George got on without Fred

Oh and the sword - I think someone said (miles down this thread) how did Neville get the sword when Griphook made off with it at Gringotts? I assumed it came out of the sorting hat - like it did in the COS - the sorting hat can make it materialise when a Gryffindor is in need. Apologies if someone's already said that - thread's too long to read now!

I had to bite my tongue as I finished it the day it came out but it took ds1 5 days to read it - he came dashing downstairs to tell me "I told you Harry was going to die! You said he wasn't! I was right and you were wrong!" then half an hour later came down again to say "oh, he didn't!"

BandofMuggles · 27/07/2007 20:16

Ah Bless im Martha

binklehasflipped · 27/07/2007 20:19

sorry, yes, thats what I mean..does he die? I'm assuming yes but?

BandofMuggles · 27/07/2007 20:21

If you really want to know..............

NO

DumbledoresGirl · 27/07/2007 20:22

Yeah I can see what you mean about the Room of Requirement but I still think it a weakness. V thinks no-one else has such an in-depth knowledge of the castle as he does, yet Dumbledore knew about the room - in a very early book he mentioned how he happened upon a bathroom he didnt know was there. I thought when it was said that the diadem was in a part of the castle no-one knew about, Harry was going to discover somewhere new.

But I agree about JK's strength being in the fact that she throws in tiny clues in earlier books. The minute I read where the diadem was, I had to pick up Book 6 and find the part when it is mentioned as a throw away comment - it is exciting seeing how she has told us where the diadem is but we have no idea!

BandofMuggles · 27/07/2007 20:24

It's great the way she does that isn't it.
I wondered at the time too if the spiders were rescuing Hagrid or not.

If they took him to V why didn't he kill him??

agree with MadEyemartha that the last chapter was tacked on in a very last minute way.

But to finish evreyone stories would be lovely, more about Neville and Luna especially. Not to mention poor old George.

DumbledoresGirl · 27/07/2007 20:29

Re the epilogue, I am not quite sure how JK thinks that giving this ending will prevent other writers from using her idea and writing their own HP stories. It seems to me that the epilogue actually leaves you wanting more rather than being satisfied. Eg, wouldn't we all like to know what sort of upbringing Teddy had? what part does harry play in it? do Neville and Dean fight it out for Luna?

BandofMuggles · 27/07/2007 20:29

Actually I do like that they lived Happily Ever After. After everything. Harry deserved to be happy really.

BandofMuggles · 27/07/2007 20:29

No one can write it unless she says so, she has the copyright.

LowFatPumpkinJuice · 27/07/2007 20:36

But there are so many characters that we all loves, we want to know how they are? we need more!

BandofMuggles · 27/07/2007 20:39

I wanted more from the epilogue too, but that link on the other thread was good.

MadEyemarthamooDy · 27/07/2007 20:41

I was thinking about Neville and Luna. Neville is a teacher at Hogwarts - and I can't think of any married teachers at Hogwarts. They all seem to be batty old loons who live there permanently.

MadEyemarthamooDy · 27/07/2007 20:43

Though I suppose they could all be paying illicit late night calls on each other - Flitwick and Trelawney might be at it like rabbits I suppose.

BandofMuggles · 27/07/2007 20:46

They live elsewhere in the hols, look at Snape.

puffylovett · 27/07/2007 20:59

was it just me or did anyone else find the bit with dumbledore at kings cross station at the end a bit 'matrixy' ?

fawkeoff · 28/07/2007 09:57

i think v ordered the spiders not to kill hagrid as i think he was going to use hagrid as bait to get harry to come to him.im re reading then im going to start from the philosophers stone.dp has just bought me all the adults in hb as i only had the childrend edition...............saving the other ones for dc when they get a bit older and they dont have to ruin my new ones

LowFatPumpkinJuice · 28/07/2007 10:01

Read a bit about JK last night who said she was preparing to kill HP and HG, but after outcry from the fans when this idea was circulated she changed her mind, so perhaps the 'matrix' type chapter was how she could explain keeping Harry alive.

BandofMuggles · 28/07/2007 10:09

I am thinking there will be some very nice Box sets coming out now so I am waiting for one of those. I have the last 2, but left my copies of the others in America when I came home. Wish I hadn't tho as like the pictures at the chapters.

Hope they bring out a really nice box set, would pay quite a bit for a good set.

fawkeoff · 28/07/2007 10:12

i reckon she made the loophole that hary couldnt die because his blood ran thru vs body when there was the outcry not to kill him off

BandofMuggles · 28/07/2007 10:13

But I think she planned that for ages as the look of triumph in DD's eye about it is in GoF.

fawkeoff · 28/07/2007 10:13

they have a nice box set on play.com.........only six books in tho at the mo

BandofMuggles · 28/07/2007 10:14

Waiting for all 7, what's the point in a box set with one missing. That is wierd, esp the last one!!!

fawkeoff · 28/07/2007 10:27

i know im not arsed about the box tho..........my dads coming round and putting me a shelf up just for the hp books.......dc cant get at them then.dp has only just got into the books and hes onto the chamber of secrets so ive give him my old books,im not letting him even breathe on my new ones
