Don't post here if you don't want to know who dies and what happens.

You've been warned.

I bet Kreacher wasn't freed... he would have considered it an insult - remember Dobby was a bit "weird" in that respect

Reckon Harry and Ginny would have been really nice to him though.

fawkeoff · 27/07/2007 13:29

v used harrys blood in the GOF so even tho harry died, his blood still ran through voldermorts body........which was the loophole in harry coming back to life, and as he scrificed himself for the greater good everyone that was fighting got the protection like harry got off his mother

fawkeoff · 27/07/2007 13:30

yeah i hated kreacher cos of the sirius thing......but all he wanted was affection, which was sirius's downfall really.

fawkeoff · 27/07/2007 13:37

i dont know why the ring was so badly cursed..............it seems to me that the more obvious places to put the horcrux had deadlier charms protecting them

ie: the ring was at marvolo gaunts house which was quite easy to get to, then there was the necklace in the cave that had the inferi and that horrible drink.

they seemed to be the most obvious hoecruxes to find really.nagini was the horcrux which v probably though impossible for someone to kill as it was with him most of the time...........harry was the horcrux so the killing curse destroyed that..........im waffling sorry

prettybird · 27/07/2007 13:54

I think H's blood was also magical in that his mother had died for his sake out of love for mim (the thing about V not understadning the magical power of love) and the fact that Harry was prepared to die for the most noble of reasons was alsowhat protected him and allowed him the choice of staying in "King's Cross" and "dying" or coming back.

Don't have the book with me though, and haven;t re-read that bit yet.

RubberDuck · 27/07/2007 13:55

***

Harry was an accidental Horcrux - so no curse protection.
The ring had the curse on it (as we know)
The necklace had that negativity curse thing and then "spoke" to Ron to try and persuade him not to destroy it.
The diary's curse was that it tried to take you over.
The goblet was presumably considered "safe" as it was in a gringott's vault, so no curse (other than the generic gringott's curses) was deemed necessary?
Nagini was with V all the time so "safe".
So it was just the diadem that appears to have been uncursed for no real reason, doesn't it?

BandofMuggles · 27/07/2007 17:13

I would think the ring was put under a curse by Voldemort. And who knows if the Diadem was cursed. It may have been if you put it on.

Harry's blood that was inside Voldemort was, if ou will, acting like a Horcrux for him. So while V destroyed the horcrux in Harry, he couldn't kill him. Harry would've died if someone had killed V at the same time cos his blood would have not been keeping V alive anymore.
See????

binklehasflipped · 27/07/2007 17:14

sorry, not read the thread but does harry get it?

BandofMuggles · 27/07/2007 17:33

You mean does he die??

Do you really want to know??

DumbledoresGirl · 27/07/2007 17:49

Thanks for explaining about the blood and the curses on the horcruxes. I still think it is a bit weak. I mean, Dumbledore got the really complicated ones didn't he? And the ones that incurred fatal curses. The others were not so well protected and I think that was because JK knew damn well that Harry could not be shown to overcome as complex magic as Dumbledore. I think that is a weakness in the plot really.....

But I still liked the book!

janeitebus · 27/07/2007 19:20

I thought that the diadem was not cursed due to V's arrogance that he alone was "special" enough to have found the Room Of Requirement, therefore he didn't feel the need to bother with any further protection for his Horcrux.

Agree though, Dumbledore's Girl, that it would be wrong for Harry to survive dark magic that had killed the greatest wizard alive, so they all had to be a bit easier to conquer.

I loved the fact that Harry, Ron, Hermione and Neville each killed a Horcrux - I felt in a way that this was showing that friendship wins, over V having no friends, just people who suck up to him to try and take in some of his power, or because they are too scared to not suck up to him. Also loved the diminishing of Lucius Malfoy - would love to know what happened to him next.

Shock
Beetroot · 27/07/2007 19:45

silly epilogue - all very smultsy.

BandofMuggles · 27/07/2007 19:46

I was very disappointed by the epilogue.
Bet you any thing that James' middle name was Fred
Bit rose tinted, but I think she did that on purpose tho.

alipotter · 27/07/2007 19:47

Respect Califrau - twice in a week!!!

I also enjoyed Draco's story, I like the fact that he sorta got what was coming to him but seems to have learnt the error of his ways by acknowledging Harry at the end.

MrsWeasley · 27/07/2007 19:52

I have to say that when I first read the book I was a tad disappointed (not sure if this was the effect of the epilogue or the fact I had finished reading the last book IYSWIM ).

I think with the book was so intense that I wanted the epilogue to be as intense. But now, nearly a week later I actually really like the epilogue.

missgiggles · 27/07/2007 20:01

Hi i went back to mrs weasley's link today and on it it there was a page (2nd interview with today) to were jk gave you the orianal(sp?) ending were scar is the last word ... but i carn't get it to download and just wounderd if anyone had read it and would be willing to let me know please!

fawkeoff · 27/07/2007 20:07

no i still say that she should have wrote another chapter to let us all know life was like for them all after voldermort was killed, and the epilogue just felt really rushed........she nurtured every book and kind of dismissed the end, well thats wot i think anyway

DumbledoresGirl · 27/07/2007 20:07

Oh yes that reminds me: what on earth gave V the impression he was the only one to find the Room of Requirement? When Harry entered it we were told it was full of possessions that people had been hiding "for centuries". So V must have seen the same thing. What made him think only he could find it?

fawkeoff · 27/07/2007 20:09

because harry found the loop hole and asked the room to find him what ppl where hiding.......it could have been an empty rom that v put the horcrux in iyswim

BandofMuggles · 27/07/2007 20:11

He always was arrogant and thought he was special. He probably thought no one there at the time would be able to find it. Or maybe he assumed it was full of stuff cos that's what he needed. That is after all the nature of the room.

I love that Harry saw the Vanishing cabinet and the Diadem when he went in, but didn't realise. I love those little bits she throws in that you don't notice til later.

She is so good at stuff like that.
