Don't post here if you don't want to know who dies and what happens.

You've been warned.

Who was winky? can't remember that character

fawkeoff · 27/07/2007 11:08

winky was barty crouch's house elf

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 27/07/2007 11:08

She was Mr Crouch's HE who got sacked for letting his son escape and cast the dark mark during the Quidditch World Cup. Dobby took her to work with him at Hogwarts but she became addicted to Butterbeer.

fawkeoff · 27/07/2007 11:09

she was placed in hogwarts kitchen when he was murdered by his son..........she kept gettin arseholed off butter beer

fawkeoff · 27/07/2007 11:10

ooooooooooh no it wasnt when he was murdered he kind of disowned her her and she was distraught

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 27/07/2007 11:11

Yes I think she loved Mr Crouch and his family poor thing, which is why I think she'd be happier with a new family than at Hogwarts.

fawkeoff · 27/07/2007 11:12

he disowned her because he though she had cast the dark mark at the quidditch world cup with harrys wand

MrsFish · 27/07/2007 11:16

Blimey I don't remember any of that is that in this last book?

I can see me having to read it again

fawkeoff · 27/07/2007 11:17

no its in the goblet of fire

MrsFish · 27/07/2007 11:38

Ah... that explains it then

alipotter · 27/07/2007 11:45

Must be alone in the fact then that I found Dobby quite irritating?
Wasn't glad he was killed or anything but I never really warmed to him, the subservience thing was a bit sickly for me. The rescue was good though, but I would have preferred another character to do that. Can't think who though.
I liked Kreacher though - perhaps because he had more spirit than Dobby, more his own man/elf!

BandofMuggles · 27/07/2007 11:49

alipotter
Dobby was so his own elf that he disobeyed his family and warned Harry in CoS. Hardly subserviant. He did it because he didn't like the Dark Arts and Voldemort, and believed in Harry and DD. He had a mind of his own and to disobey an order is a huge deal for a HE but he did it anyway

alipotter · 27/07/2007 11:58

Aaah sorry everyone, thought I might be sticking my neck out a bit with my Dobby thoughts.
I think it was more his manner with Harry rather than his deeds, which were, you're right a big deal. I think the comic side of his actions and words in the previous books were overplayed a bit which I found annoying.

BandofMuggles · 27/07/2007 11:59

Yes, perhaps he was a bit grovelley with Harry. Esp in CoS.

But he was still lovely and I cried when he died

TheArmadillo · 27/07/2007 12:05

Dp agrees with you Ali.

Dobby gets on his nerves.

He loves Kreacher though.

alipotter · 27/07/2007 12:08

Loved it when Kreacher used to mutter under his breath, just what I did with my parents as a teenager!
The idea of him preparing steak and kidney pudding (was it that? resisting urge to run downstairs and check in book) for them, made me laugh, what a turnaround!

BandofMuggles · 27/07/2007 12:10

Wasn't he great when he was happy.

DumbledoresGirl · 27/07/2007 12:42

Can someone explain (or point me in the direction of where it is explained) why Harry did not die at the end when V "killed" him. I find all that "you cannot die but you must die but you wont die" stuff a bit confusing

DumbledoresGirl · 27/07/2007 12:43

Also why was the ring cursed and ultimately would have left to Dumbledore's death but none of the other horcruxes were?

DumbledoresGirl · 27/07/2007 12:47

led to Dumbledore's death

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 27/07/2007 12:49

I know it's kind of the point but does anyone else get annoyed that Hermione only believes certain things and dismisses other stuff, such as the DHs as rubbish. Just reading the bit at the Lovegoods' and she is really irritating me.

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 27/07/2007 12:50

And that Harry's wand can't have done magic by itself.

prettybird · 27/07/2007 12:53

Voldemrot had used Harry Potter's blood to bring him back to life, so when he "killed" him, all he did was kill the Horcrux within HP. Becasue V was still alive, then Harry could still live.

DumbledoresGirl · 27/07/2007 12:55

Thanks Prettybird. Still don't get it really though. I mean it must be something magical because if H had given some of his blood to V via a transfusion, their lives would not be linked. I know I am being obtuse, but I just find all that quite hard to understand. Do children understand it I wonder?

MrsWeasley · 27/07/2007 12:56

Well I loved both Dobby and Kreacher

Actually I hated kreacher in the 5th book becuase of sirius but as soon as I saw him on screen I thought he was lovely
