Am now onto the third book and still nothing added to the experience by having finsihed the series, apart from snape's attitude. I think it will all come out in the fourth onwards as that's when they got really information heavy. Can't wait!

I finished it last night but if I read this whole thread through I will need another 2 days! So what are the basic points of this thread?

I feel some ends have been left untied but I can't think what they are...

Also, I want to know why Charlie Weasley did not feature in this book? If all the other Weasleys, even Percy, gathered for the fight, why didn't Charlie? And don't suggest because he is in Hungary or anything pathetic like that. He had the power of the dragons in his hands and could have brought them to bear very effectively.

Also, ner ner ner ner ner! I TOLD you all Snape was good and acting on Dumbledore's orders when he killed him. That was SO obvious.

Hi DG, most people hated the epilogue (but I liked it, if it was a little nicey nicey). Dobby dying, Snape's life, Harry going into the forest with his loved ones = lump in everyone's throat, erm.... there are more points people have generally agreed on but those spring to mind now.

Actually (smug) i also, separately pointed out that Snape was arguing about not wanting to do something, and that was what i assumed it was referring to...

Yeah, none of the stuff about Snape was a surprise for me tbh, except the manner of his death of course. I thought he would die actively doing something to save Harry. But then I thought that because I couldn't see how else Harry could be made to see that Snape was a goodie really. I didn't think of him extracting his memories for Harry in his dying breath (amazing how he can do that and manage to give Harry exactly the right memories to tell the story!)

Have to say, the only thing that surprised me from Snape's memories were that he and Lily were childhood friends, and that DD knew he would die within the year. I was on the fence about him loving Lily when someone else suggested it (or several people!), but I wasn't surprised when that came to pass.

Someone said that Snape became horrible and nasty becasue of James and Sirius, but, while they certainly contributed, I think his parents relationship had far more to do with it. Sirius once said that Snape came to Hogwarts knowing more about the dark arts than anyone else. And Lily challenges him about his friends. It's the whole choice thing again. And as DD said (quite disgustedly), he only wanted Lily protected because he loved her, he didn't really care about James or Harry. Compare this to Harry who absolutely hates Malfoy, but saved his life twice. I doubt Snape would have saved James' life, really.

Yeah, the manner of his death surprised me. I thought he might go in a blaze of glory protecting Harry. But it kind of reflects his sad life really, doesn't it. Harry said '19 years later' that he was the bravest man he ever met, but he still died in a way that people never saw how 'good' he was. Having said all that vefore, I do think he came to be 'good' by the end. He owed DD a lot and seemed genuine enough when protecting Harry (even if he hated him - don't think that was an act ).

think why there isn't more about how lupin and tonks died is cos for the whole book we only see what harry sees. and it's good not to get it all fed to you on a plate (although really I do want every last detail about everything).

i think (hope, wish, pray) there's an authors cut (like the directors cut in a dvd) of all the books waiting somewhere ~ once we've all bought the seven book box set and bloomsbury need something else pick the profits back up!!! Don't know how we'd be able to hold them tho!!!

mummypigoink, MrsW also mentioned, probably on another thread, that JK did say she might do an enclycopedia type book of everything to do with HP inc what happened to everyone afterwards!

yeah rosmerta, I saw that, but being a bit of a geek about these things i'd like the encyclopaedia, and the authors cut to see how she would have woven it together.

then we could have more threads like this yeah!
