Don't post here if you don't want to know who dies and what happens.

You've been warned.

Ah - thanks Flame

flatmouse · 25/07/2007 11:48

Loosing track of where i read things (as am v bored at work and have been reading the forums on mugglenet too), but someone either here or there made the point that the epilogue could well have been the part that has been written for years and locked in JKR vault. Which is why it doesn't necessarily match book 7 but does match book 1.

If this is the case, i find it fascinating how the whole series has been put together, and am in awe of someone who can do that!

Not quite sure i understand how the second's hesitation meant that the silver hand turned on himself?

FlameDelacour · 25/07/2007 11:50

Yup, I think it is the bit that was written back in the beginning too

FlameDelacour · 25/07/2007 11:51

Voldemort had made the hand, and he set it up to only work if he was loyal? The hesitation meant loyalty waning, so it turned.

I think....

flatmouse · 25/07/2007 11:56

ah ok, that kind of makes sense, thanks flame

At first i thought that he doesn't really care about loyalty tho does he? But then he does make a big thing in previous books about the DE who remained loyal while he was away.

Flame: according to wikipedia:

"As Albus Dumbledore later explains to Harry, an ancient magic now binds the two, and, "A day may come when you will be very glad you saved Pettigrew's life". That day did come, when Pettigrew was sent to check on the then captured Harry and Ron. Pettigrew hesitated in killing them, and for showing mercy, the magic prosthetic hand that had been created for him by Voldemort attacked and strangled Pettigrew to death."

newgirl · 25/07/2007 12:05

i loved it!!!

so imaginative and moving - i will def read it again

I think the epilogue is enough. I dont think you need a paragpraph on each key character - better to leave it to a child's imagination and know that they lived happily ever after!!

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 25/07/2007 12:14

I do think that it was hinted that Snape loved Lily - particularly in the way he hated James. JKR has jealousy as an irrational cause of hatred a lot in the books (see Ron's reaction to Krum and Harry's to Dean). Also, it had to be about love - it's an ongoing theme throughout the books that V doesn't understand love or what people will do for it, so of course he would never expect Snape to be betraying him out of love for someone else.

I would also have preferred a longer epilogue, giving more details on all the characters who survived, but I did like what was there. I was glad Harry had made a normal, happy life for himself.

I also wondered if Remus and Tonks were the two people JKR killed after she decided she couldn't kill someone else (who I'm convinced was Hagrid) which is why their deaths are just mentioned rather than described, although I did also think Remus might be a gonner after he made Harry godfather to Teddy.

CharleeWeasley · 25/07/2007 12:19

So when do you think we have to drop our HP naems or can i kepp mine for ever????????

FlameDelacour · 25/07/2007 12:21

Yup, I am convinced that they replaced Hagrid too

CharleeWeasley · 25/07/2007 12:23

Thought it was great that Percey c ome right to join the family before Fred died.

I really thought Percy was the Weasley that would die and I thought it would be to save his father. It's obvious that there were too many of them for them all to survive.

If you look on the obsessed thread Mrs Weasley has posted that JKR has said she's going to write an encyclopeadia (sp) which gives back stories and tells what happened to characters that survived and what happened in the wider wizarding world.

katiebell100 · 25/07/2007 12:59

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%^^^^^^^&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&(||||||||||||||\\\\\ \\\\\\)))))))))))))!!!!!!!!!

I think that Hagrid was supposed to die too, I was sure that he had when he got dragged off by the accramantula, his love monsters being his downfall and I'm sure that Lupin and Tonks replaced him on the roll call of death.

Did anyone else notice Dean and Luna holdings hands as they ran off into battle, maybe that's what happened to Luna? She lined in bliss with Dean..... I love happy endings can you tell?

katiebell100 · 25/07/2007 13:00

I mean lived again

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 25/07/2007 13:04

&&&&&&&&&& &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&I missed that but I think I've missed loads so have already started reading it again.

katiebell100 · 25/07/2007 13:08

I've nearly finished my second reading, I am so sad

flatmouse · 25/07/2007 13:47

I've started again too....altho have to say find the first few chapters tedious (if necessary) compare to later ones.

alipotter · 25/07/2007 13:57

I've started reading the whole lot again, I'm going to enjoy actually knowing what things mean and where they are leading!

I thought the Percy thing was a bit something and nothing - he confesses he was a prat and that was it? After everything that was made of his attitude in the previous books I expected a bit more - even if he wasn't going to be killed I expected him to play a greater role in things, to prove his worth sort of thing.

CharleeWeasley · 25/07/2007 13:58

Im starting the series again from COS as DP is taking a ridiculously long time reading PS.

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 25/07/2007 14:13

I'm going to start the series again once I've read Dh for the second time. I read all up to book 7 in the weeks before it was published and then read books 6 and 7 again so once I read the whole series as one I'll be a bit Pottered out I think.

persephonesnape · 25/07/2007 14:35

just finished PS. going to start chamber of secrets. Dd has dibs on DHallows once she gets back from grannys.

I can't change my name 'back'.. I've always been a snape -

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 25/07/2007 14:38

Not sure when to change mine back. Maybe when I've reread the whole series again and am out of HP mode.

rosmerta · 25/07/2007 15:00

I think I'm going to keep my name, I like it!

I've lent my copy of DH to a friend so once I've got it back then I think I'll reread them all.

BellaBear · 25/07/2007 15:20

can anyone remind me of the word JKR said the book would finish on (but then it didn't)?
