Don't post here if you don't want to know who dies and what happens.

You've been warned.

Me too

Maybe with regarts to the epilgue that JKR wrote, it be like that so that if she wanted to she could go back to it and do another book based on what went on in those 19 years.

My only wish in the book was that after Harry killed Voltermort that he went and saw Ginny. But I am a soppy old git.

RubeusDuck · 25/07/2007 08:29

Have you guys gone to the official JKRowling site? There's some interesting titbits on there, particularly about the lack of relationship between Neville and Luna, and also about the inspiration for Gilderoy Lockheart. Am finding it fascinating reading

tigerschick · 25/07/2007 08:58

Just a thought on the epilogue ...................................................... .................................................................................................... .

JKR wrote it first didn't she? So does it fit more closely with the tone of the first books? It doesn't sit so comfortably at the end of book 7 because the tone of the books changed so much. I think I'm groping in the dark for an excuse for it, but it sounds plausible to me ... I think!!

CharleeWeasley · 25/07/2007 09:00

I love JKR's website it's fab.

I think im the only one who didn't mind the end bit i though it was good to create alot of thingd from imagination tbh.

rosmerta · 25/07/2007 10:20

I think it either needed to be a proper chapter or not there at all tbh

rosmerta · 25/07/2007 10:30

Where did you find the stuff about Neville & Luna on the website? Been looking but can't see it anywhere

fawkeoff · 25/07/2007 10:37

yeah it was absolute pants,i think she totally disregarded the aftermath....i think that she should have done at least one more chapter as to how the weasleys coped after losing fred......explain what happened to all the death eaters, who became ministry of magic etc etc etc.

allmytimeonmumsnet · 25/07/2007 10:53

I'm probably going to get shouted at here but I still felt snape was a bad guy at the end. Yes I recognise all the stuff with him and Lily and thought it was incredibly sad and I really felt for him. But that doesn't make him a good guy. I know the thing with DD death was pre-arranged so can't hang that on him BUT he did still kill Moody didn't he. And was the one to get Georges ear. I was left with the feeling that he was a double agent at the end of the day and he was still a pretty nasty character and did many horrible things. He may have loved Harry's eyes but he still hated everything else about Harry.

I think he was quite a comlex character. He was a badie that we could feel for. I think the 4 friends made him what he was but that does not justify the things that he did.

allmytimeonmumsnet · 25/07/2007 10:58

OK correct myself. According to Wikipedia it was V that killed Moody but Sanpe still got Georges ear and it was only lucky it wasn't worse and lets remember that George was Harry at the time.

RubeusDuck · 25/07/2007 11:00

Rumours, second page.

RubeusDuck · 25/07/2007 11:01

If you remember in his memories he was actually aiming the spell at a death eater's wand hand but missed, getting George's ear instead.

Snape is still a goodie.

fawkeoff · 25/07/2007 11:02

didnt snape also have an unbreakable vow with dumbledore to protect harry????????and i think snape probably knew that it wasnt harry anyway

tigerschick · 25/07/2007 11:05

I don't think there is any mention of Snape and Dumbledore having an unbreakable vow. I think that D just trusted him.

alipotter · 25/07/2007 11:14

Only just finished, been dying to join in this thread!
I thought the epilogue was lovely!!! I assumed she felt she had to do it to prevent other people from cashing in and writing sequels etc(although I never really understood that, surely everything is copyright protected?)
Snape is now my fave character - v complex.
Some of it was very contrived though and I was surprised at how much came out of the blue considering all the other trails that have been laid in the previous books. Ron, parseltongue???

fawkeoff · 25/07/2007 11:17

and i just loved that pettigrew throttled himself..........exactly what he deserved

FlameDelacour · 25/07/2007 11:19

Ron just randomly hissed until he got it right

CrookshanksWhiskers · 25/07/2007 11:25

*I speed-read the book & have obviously missed a really important part - exactly when did the elder wand choose Draco Malfoy? I don't remember anything about that at all so must have missed it in all the excitement

DH has just decided he wants to raed them - he's taken HP & the Philosopher's Stone to work to read on the bus This means that I'm not allowed to mention what happens in any of the other books 'til he's read them all - by which time 8mo DS will probably be reading them!

FlameDelacour · 25/07/2007 11:30

On the roof, Draco disarmed Dumbledore before their long chat and Snape killing him

flatmouse · 25/07/2007 11:30

not a spoiler so won't bother with * but i just LOVED Hermione's little evening bag

MrsWeasley · 25/07/2007 11:40

Read the bit about DD's sister again last night and I didnt see it as a sexual thing at all. I read it as them beating her because she wouldnt do magic for them which would scare a little girl dreadfully and her reaction to it!

HungarianHorntailsBumcheek · 25/07/2007 11:44

Severus was supposed to be seen to be a nasty bit of work...he couldn't have been trusted by Voldemort if he was everybody's fave teacher could he! And he was not the nicest person anyway which is probably why him and Lily didn't get it on in the first place. He was overall a good man, though, and the bravery aspect was that he had to be nasty all those years, being disliked and dispised by everyone

The epilogue was also lacking but i do like a happy ending. I think if Tonks and Lupin had been rubbed in a bit morei'd have been inconsolable. JKR probably thought she'd give Childline a bit of a break.
