Don't post here if you don't want to know who dies and what happens.

You've been warned.

yes, it is a bit curious - Snape is an amazing wizard - to be suprised in such a fashion - but to be constantly on your toes, playing a dangerous double agent game.

such an amazing torch to hold though. to fall in love when you're about eight or so (?) to always love. i think he spat out the mudblood in a self loathing moment because everyone had seen his pants..Lily does quantify her rejection by saying all her friends wondered why she bothered with him ( paraphrase). thats bit weak for my taste that Lily was so worried about the opinion of others ( fallible - human, though)

he's a great tragic/romantic hero - to love someone so much that you can care for their child who looks like your loathed, bullying, nemesis. To die so a part of them survives.

persephonesnape · 23/07/2007 19:29

but then reubeus, i would have expected Draco and Hermione to get together on the basis that she punched him in book 3 and he thinks shes a filthy mudblood ( 'oh draco!' hermione purred, 'i love it when you talk dirty...) < eww at self emoticon>

persephone: ewww... how sordid

persephonesnape · 23/07/2007 19:53

I see exactly what you mean fudge, I just took sides a long time ago.

weep! at lupin and tonks thats quite tragic as well - ( hell, it's an oodle of tragedy this book!) She loved him for a long time, he finally gave in (...) she got pregnant , he was worried about the pregnancy, they have a beautiful little metamorphogus boy and the, they, diiiiiiiiiiie.

there are a lot of orphaned or mistreated little boys n Rowlings world.

Sorry, that makes no sense as the 'first line' of the post wasn't a spoiler - but it ran on to include the two that died. And lots of people are upset with the amount of spoiling going on. So let's be careful!

KathH · 23/07/2007 20:36

I thought the book was good but wasnt keen on the last chapter. Was a bit confused about the "trace" thing on Harry at the beginning, seem to remember Dumbledore telling Harry in one of the other books that they couldnt tell who had done any magic just that it had been done?

KathH · 23/07/2007 20:36

Sorry - perhaps you perform magic rather than do it

TheArmadillo · 23/07/2007 20:39

but they can tell where it has been done can't they? So they could track down the person doing it if quick enough.

TheDuchessOfNorks · 23/07/2007 20:40

But they know the location of where the magic was performed. Hence why a letter would arrive at the Dursleys when he'd blown up Aunt Marge or Dobby dropped the cake etc.

TheDuchessOfNorks · 23/07/2007 20:41

x-post!

KathH · 23/07/2007 20:42

thanks!

* **

On the whole, I really enjoyed the book. It made me laugh, cry, spit my tea all over the desk from snorting @ 'she's nuttier than squirel poo' and '...but the fact remains that he can move faster than Severus Snape confronted by shampoo when he wants to..."

I am utterly disappointed with the ending, like most fans are. To me it felt very rushed, like little thought went into it, rather like bad fanfiction.

I also cried at Dobby's death, was horrified at Snape's death. I KNEW he was good all along, he is the most tragic hero I have read about in a long time. I thought the interaction betwen Harry & Snape was just perfect, much better than any conversation they could have had.

Absolutely LOVED Molly & Neville, it was great to see the way their characters came into their own.

I would have loved to have seen more of what happened between the death of Voldermort and the epilogue.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book, the briliant parts made up for the mediocre. Now I just have to go back and re-read it at a more leisurely pace and really soak it all in.

rosmerta · 23/07/2007 21:22

Yep, I think much much more could've been made of the epilogue, I would've liked to have known what happened to Grawp & Hagrid, the Malfoys (aside from Draco of course) & the rest of the Weasley's

TheArmadillo · 23/07/2007 21:25

epilogue was sloppy imo.

Either do it longer/more detailed or don't bother at all.

Loved the humour in this book - Kreacher hitting Mundungus with frying pan ('One more for luck?'). Much funnier than the previous ones I think.

AttilaTheMum · 23/07/2007 21:30

btw if you're trying to avoid important information appearing on the 'last hour' etc it's the number of characters that matters, not the number of lines - you need at least 100 * to make sure no words appear.

Oh Yes Kreacher was excellent. I thought there were some very funny lines in this book. My favourite is still F&G "wow we're indentical" LOL

LucyJones · 23/07/2007 21:36

Heartmum2Jamie

I takre issue with 'I am utterly disappointed with the ending, like most fans are' I know lots of fans, me included, I thought the ending was perfect.
yes the epilogue could have gone on and on about what happenedto each and everyone of the characters remaining but that would have been a book in itself

MrsWeasley · 23/07/2007 21:41

Now that is exactly what I want another HP book. Infact JKR could have done one about every year after the deathly hallows ended.

It could have gone into more details but then again it wouldnt have ended, ever and whilst I would have liked that, the whole series is only supposed to be about harrys childhood years.

Heartmum2Jamie · 23/07/2007 22:06

LucyJones

You can take issue with what you like. I did say 'most', not ALL. I have yet to come across anyone that was truely happy with the ending, so you are the first. I am pleased it satisfied you. I never said I wanted a full run down on all the characters, I just would have prefered a little more details about some of the other main characters, certainly not enough for another book

MrsWeasley · 23/07/2007 22:09

WEll I've love another book or 20

MrsWeasley · 23/07/2007 22:09

I'd even

HungarianHorntailsBumcheek · 23/07/2007 22:12

I don't think i'd mind reading another book in itself about all the characters afterwards, but it would have to be out soon, so wouldn't happen. Have posted on other spoiler thread that i would like to read a book about their kids in an adventure - only just found this thread.

lunalovegoodasgold · 23/07/2007 22:55

**I liked the book, especially the second half, after Malfoy Manor. The camping and worrying didn't really do much for me.
I think James and Lily could have been a bit like Ron and Hermione, where she is always telling him off, but is strongly attracted to him.
I would have liked to have found out more in the 19 years after, I mean Luna and her father, is Draco with Pansy? Is Neville with Luna and which Weasley? is headmaster?
And I know Hagrid survived, is he still working at Hogwarts. Do Harry and Ginny live at 12 Grimmauld Place, has Ginny restored it and put up designer wallpaper? Or did they get a nice little cottage in Gogrics Hollow where Harry can grow his own veg? Did they have to sell no. 12 to get the cottage or are they renting it out, or using it as a pied a terre?
What does Harry do for a job and is Ginny a stay at home mum, or has she got a nice part time job at the ministry....Somebody please tell me.
