Is anyone else getting really excited (borderline obsessed)about he new HP book?
I have re-read all the other 6 and everytime I scan down active convos and see "Potty" I heart skips a beat or I hold my breath whilst my eyes focus!!

Please tell me it isn't only me and my DC that are counting the days (hours, minutes, seconds...)

I am humbled by the knowledge of the MN HP fanbase. I cannot keep up. I can't even remember exactly what a Horcrux is.

A horcrux is um, well, Voldemort has divided his soul into parts and a horcrux is a part of his soul. Ummm I think, sort of. (My knowledge isn't nearly as great as real HP fans).

A horcrux is an every day object into which Voldemort put the pieces of his soul, so if they are destroyed he will die a bit at a time.

Each one is significant, one was a locket, and I actually can't remember what the other one was which is why I need to reread b4 no 7 comes out.
Someone will post it and I'll go , OMG of course, but at this moment I'm blank

PersephoneSnape - we demand your theory! And someone must know how many Horcrux pieces there are, suddenly seems quite important after the update on the cover of the new book. Come on, come on.

BoM -yes, well um, maybe no, but he doesn't die a bit at a time they just make him weaker and easier to defeat - he has not realised some of them have been destroyed so surely he can't be actually 'die' a bit each time one goes.

There are supposedly 7 pieces of V's soul but one is of course in him. The other 6 are the locket, the ring, the diary, the cup and 2 others as yet unknown (I think). Harry has still to find the locket, cup and the 2 unknown ones.

Am I right?

It has been ages since I read them and I've only read the 6th one twice, I think I did quite well really.

I can't wait to read the next one.
So Dances you HP pedant, what was the other one, and are there 4 or 5 left. Isn't there 4 and Voldemort himself is the 5th??

That's who has the locket isn't it, so a good guy I assume. Maybe a new character.

Snape cant be Harry's dad simply because I WONT ALLOW IT They did not change Harry's face you only have to look a Neville to tell that they cant do things like that!

Snape killed DD because he had made that silly vow to Dracos mother. It is possible that DD had instructed snape to remain undercover,even if it means killing him.

Another question is who got to the horcrux first? I have had a few guesses at this. This could be a dark Wizard tring to gain power or a good wizard trying to kill V!

Not sure about Harry being a horcrux, it would mean that whilst harry lives a bit of V lives and therefore the danger is always there, However that sounds (to me anyway) like a jolly good reason for writing more books. (fingers crossed)

I think that is why Harry will have to die. Maybe even Snape will have to be the one to do it, or Hermy, or Ron.
GASP, that would make for a very poignant ending.

I definitely read an interview with JKR in which she said no significant new characters would be introduced in Bk 7. Regulus is only supposed dead - no-one actually knows what happened to him. Equally, he is supposed to have been on Voldemort's side, but we all know there are double agents at work on both sides. IMO, Regulus is the great underdeveloped character so far so I am pretty much sure RAB will turn out to be him.

Oooh, good thought, BoM. I like it. That'd be proper story-telling stuff from JKR. I have mused on the death of HP for some time. It seems to me that to close the story out, HP might well have to be sacrificed. In some ways, he's an odd character who could be quite difficult to sustain into adulthood. There must be a theory about the 'sacrificial hero' in story telling. Anyone?

Oooohh.. or maybe he just returns to the Muggles world and gives up magic or loses his powers. Hmm, can't see that lasting more than a few years. JKR would have to have an iron will to turn down all requests to allow a new story where HP is tempted back into the fray.
