Is anyone else getting really excited (borderline obsessed)about he new HP book?
I have re-read all the other 6 and everytime I scan down active convos and see "Potty" I heart skips a beat or I hold my breath whilst my eyes focus!!

Please tell me it isn't only me and my DC that are counting the days (hours, minutes, seconds...)

No, I never saw any spoilers and it was a complete shock. As was Sirius.
I shall have to avoid MN til I finish it.
Can't believe people are so small and cruel and petty that they would post it on the M6 and spoil it for thousands of people.
Some people should not be allowed to be, IMO.

Sunshinemummy · 20/06/2007 10:43

I never saw any spoilers either. I thought it might be Hagrid that died.

Songbird · 20/06/2007 10:57

I know, luckily I?d finished it when this story came out. It?s funny, but I don?t particularly mind spoilers when I hear them. The books are written so effing well that I don?t feel I lose anything. However, if I had known beforehand that DD was going to die I?d have spent the whole time thinking, ?is it now?? and it would have spoiled () the moment for me. I certainly don?t go looking for them, and only look at the various HP websites because I know there won?t be any big ones confirmed by JKR.

But I love theorising!

By the way, we're nearly on 1000, so we'll have to start again soon!

persephonesnape · 20/06/2007 12:25

BOM do both. have a speed read to find out what the hell happens and then start again for a lingering read.

I'm driving to derby from Glasgow the weekend of release. there betyter NOT be any motorway signs. or I'll unforgiveable curse them.

what happens if you break an unbreakable vow though. surely you don't just die on the spot?

Of course Snape loved Lily. thats one of the reasons why he hated james so much. bloody quidditch playing sporty type with spikey hair! ! read some books potter! pffft!

rosmerta · 20/06/2007 12:54

I remember hearing at the last one just after it had been released some idiot stood outside the bookshop and shouted to everyone that Snape kills DD! Wouldn't you just be really p'd off! Well, I would anyway, there's part of me that wants to know but if I did skip ahead I'd really regret it!

We'll have to have an agreement that people can't post about anything specific immediately, just lots of [anger] kind of things!

rosmerta · 20/06/2007 12:55

even!

notthewabbit · 20/06/2007 12:56

I'm collecting the book from WHSMith at midnight, we are then getting in the car and driving 7 hours to the Lakes, I shall have finished it by Birmingham

Songbird · 20/06/2007 12:59

Anyone else think that Ginny is a bit like Lily? Red hair? check! Pretty? check! Clever? check! Bit feisty? check! Like boys with messy hair? check! Green eyes? erm, I'll have to check this one - can't remember if Ginny's are green or blue!

Oedipus or what?!?!

Also, I would think DD wouldn't be the type to make unbreakable vows - he either trusts people or not. This is why I think Snape is on the level - I can't bear the thought that DD was wrong!

Songbird · 20/06/2007 13:00

That would be great:

p.18
p.45
p.167

It could work ladies!

Sunshinemummy · 20/06/2007 14:18

Just if DD was wrong it would make him a bit of a fool I think and I don't think JKR would ever want him to appear that way.

MrsWeasley · 20/06/2007 14:21

I mentioned earlier about Ginny and Lily being alike but cant remember where (rl or here, or is this rl????)
I'm trying to get my head round how it could be. Did Lily and Mr W. have a baby and mr W kept the baby. Are they distantly related? Does JK Rowling just like that look

The P452 told you so! etc etc
p98 didnt expect that!
Could work !

A magazine has printed guidlines for parents on how to help their child cope if Harry dies. Well excuse me what about us parents!!!!

Sunshinemummy · 20/06/2007 14:28

I don't know about you but I'm also dying to know a bit more about Petunia - why did she hate Lily so much, why did she take Harry in, what was in DD's letter to her, how come she remembers certain things about the wizarding world. I really hope we find this out.

AnnieAlcoholLeft · 20/06/2007 14:32

MrsWeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeasley!!!

Coffee is ready!

Treacle tart anyone?

Songbird · 20/06/2007 14:34

Oh, I really can?t wait. Can you imagine being a child reading HP? I?m so jealous that dd will grow up with HP books, like I did with Enid Blyton and Roald Dahl (which I still love!).

I read this great thing in a newspaper ages ago (prob when HBP came out) where they were talking about whether or not Harry will die. Someone had posted on a forum ?Children have to learn about death sometime, it?s why they have hamsters?. That really tickled me.

Sunshinemummy, that?s exactly what I think about DD and Snape. DD can?t be wrong, especially in his dying moments!

Sunshinemummy · 20/06/2007 15:06

In the back of my POA (sorry I don't know if it's in all versions) there's some letters to JKR and one of them is from a teacher saying how well her class had responded to the HP books and what a pleasure it had been for her to read them to them. It made me so excited about reading them do DS. Making him wait until the next night to read the next installment and how excited he'll be.

AnnieAlcoholLeft · 20/06/2007 15:16

How old can they be before we can start reading to them? DS is 2. Too young?

Songbird · 20/06/2007 15:32

Mmnn, dd is 2 as well, bloody hell we?ve got to wait ages. I can?t believe little kids of 7 & 8 are reading the later books, much too young IMO (here we go ).

Sunshinemummy · 20/06/2007 15:39

Yes my DS is 15m and struggles to listen to even a 'That's not my' story for any length of time.

Songbird · 20/06/2007 15:43

Ah, I think we had most of those ?that?s not my..? books ? firm faves! Dd found them in a bag under the bed recently and loves them.

Sunshinemummy · 20/06/2007 15:57

They are good aren't they as they're so tactile? He likes to 'read' them by himself though.

persephonesnape · 20/06/2007 16:41

'Mmnn, dd is 2 as well, bloody hell we?ve got to wait ages. I can?t believe little kids of 7 & 8 are reading the later books, much too young IMO (here we go )'.

agree entirely. i'm ok with dss 7 & 9 seeing teh films, becasue they make distinction bteween tv scarey and real lifev, but i always think books suck you in more and theres far more in the books than in the films. FAR scarier.

weasleys are related to the blacks as far as i remember.. not sure that we know that much of harrys grandparents etc tree (yet!)

i also want andromeda tonks to feature in dHallows.

i like the idea of the three sisters and always wonder about the one picked out of the black tapestry.

Sunshinemummy · 20/06/2007 16:54

Yes I believe they are related through Molly somehow. Be good to see something of Andromeda but not sure how many new characters she'll introduce in this book.

MrsWeasley · 20/06/2007 18:18

the Blacks and the weasleys are related waaaaaaaaaaaaay back but there isnt much info on The Potters. (Its not important apparently!)

Thanks Annie, lovely treacle tart

My son (an able reader) started to read the HP books at 7/8 but didnt stick with them but now he is 10 he is just read the first 4 and is about to start book 5. He has a greater understanding now and is enjoying them mcuh more.

OP posts:
MrsWho · 20/06/2007 19:59

dd1 is 7 and she has read 1/2/3 and listened to / seen 4 but so far hasn't got into 5 & 6(too serious!)

I'm listening to the Lightening struck Tower atm

MrsWho · 20/06/2007 20:26

Right the Snape/dumbledore/malfoy thing.

JUst listened to it, I think DD knew about Snapes unbreakable vow and knew malfoy wasn't going to so Snape had to.

Snape was upset about Dd there is a line about his face being in pain when Harry taunts him about DD.

Hopfully snape will redeem himself in the next one
