obsessed with Harry P?

Is anyone else getting really excited (borderline obsessed)about he new HP book?
I have re-read all the other 6 and everytime I scan down active convos and see "Potty" I heart skips a beat or I hold my breath whilst my eyes focus!!

Please tell me it isn't only me and my DC that are counting the days (hours, minutes, seconds...)

OK here's my theory. Snape took the unbreakable vow to protect Draco Malfoy. In order to fulfil his vow he had to prevent Malfoy from killing Dumbledore. Dumbledore knew that and told Snape to kill him so that Draco didn't have to.

Yes. HP is a Horcrux! Good thinking...But didn't Voldemort try to kill him in Book 4 (Goblet of Fire) when Cedric D got killed?

What is the significance of Fawkes feathers in the wands????

Report
RosaLuxembourg · 09/05/2007 22:47

I don't think HP is a horcrux. But can someone remind me how many are left to find?

I'll definitely be at Tescos at midnight on the 20th. Is it a school night?

Report
RosaLuxembourg · 09/05/2007 22:54

No it is a Friday night. On purpose for that reason.

now I had at one point thought that about snape and dumbledore but then decided that DD wouldnt leave Harry all alone, but would he have faked his death

I think there is more to the snapes mother story myself!

It was said that the 7 books are about his school life so despite what he says in book 6 he must be going back to Hogwarts. Who persuades him, perhaps its Dumbledore? (or Mrs W)

Um Mrs W, hate to be the one to break it to you but Dumbledore is, er deceased, passed away, gone on, fallen asleep in the Lord, you know what I'm trying to say here.

He's DEAD, woman!!

Hello, just reading this thread. I'm thinking that DD is only as dead as the Phoenix was/is.....maybe that's where the feathers in the wand fit in.
Also think Ron might be the one to er, pass away - as per the comment in the chess game. It would make for a spectacularly sad ending. Gulp!

Yes I believe that Dumbledore is, unfortunately, definitely dead. I think JKR has confirmed this somewhere.

Mangled body says DD dead.
Phoenix feathers in wand connection was partially shown when wands connected a sort of protection for HP.
Think snape def on DD's orders to protect Draco.DD wanted him to be diff to his father lucius I think.
Thought a spell had to be used to create horcrux and Voldermort didn't mean to leave part of himself in HP.DD says so

What about Mrs Dursley? There's something else about her character I think.

saw the cover of the grown up book today in smiths - it's the locket, so the last book will centre around all these bloomin' horcruxes scattered all over the place.

I'm re-reading OOtp just now in preparation for teh film, then I'll reread six in prep for seven coming out.

I don't want to order it online, the post service is rubbish and I'd be going dotty sitting under my letter box at half past ten on day of release. I'll get the kids up and pop to asda for when they open, as i did with teh last one, then spend the entire day reading and ignoring please of small children.

oh! incidentally - i still think mrs norris isn't just a cat, aunt petunia has something about her ( she knew what azkabhan was and her explanation as to how she knew was rubbish!) Snape is OBVIOUSLY good, Hermoine can't die, because JKR wouldn't kill off a strong female character.

DrDaddy · 10/05/2007 13:45

"Hermoine can't die, because JKR wouldn't kill off a strong female character."
But if we accept that Hermione is JKR characterised, then killing her off would be the final act of an author killing of a series.

DrDaddy · 10/05/2007 13:46

"off", not "of" obviously

persephonesnape · 10/05/2007 13:52

oh blimey! poor 'mione!

As a female author though, i just don't think she would kill off such a strong female character, because there really arent proportionately as many strong female characters as male charcters in the book. if you're looking at central characters you have, Mrs Weasley (waves!) Minerva McGonnagle, Tonks, 'Mione & Luna. secondary characters are the professors Sprout & Trelawney, Ginny and Cho and baddies Narcissa and Bellatrix.

i will be devastated if hermione goes! i was a know it all swot at school as well.

Good thought on Mrs Norris being more thana cat.
Had occured to me before. I did not see DD dying so will probably be surprised by whoever dies. I don't think anyone would get away with writing follow ons, surely illegal.
Agree she never puts anything in that isn't useful. Fairly sure there are either 4 or 5 horcruxes left, don't thin Harry is one.
Agree that Snape will protect Harry as is actually good but deep undercover. Probably die doing it.......

God I need to check this thread more often. One day off and it goes mad.

LOVE speculating, can't WAIT to read it.

BandofMothers · 10/05/2007 13:57

Ooh, I think Ginny will be a main character in the next one.

Have I killed yet another thread.
I must go back and read 5 and 6 before the new one comes out. I haven't read those ones as much as the first 4. I think DD probably told Snape to kill him cos he was too weak from the Poison of hte basin with the horcrux in it. There was no way he could be captured by V, and made to talk as he just knew too much. Plus it will give Harry the impetus to do what needs to be done. Plus the protecting Draco part. I think Draco will learn a lesson and end up helping, perhaps he will die for it as he is a deatheater.

persephonesnape · 10/05/2007 14:31

i also think Snape is Harrys real dad, but everytime i go into my highly complex theory about this, people start to snigger, so i won't bother!

Snape can't be Harry's father; he looks just like his dad (with his mother's eyes - which apparently is very important).

Report
DumbledoresGirl · 10/05/2007 17:36

What is to say that Snape (or Lily) did not magically change Harry's face to make him look like James so as not to arouse suspicion and gossip?!
