Is anyone else getting really excited (borderline obsessed)about he new HP book?
I have re-read all the other 6 and everytime I scan down active convos and see "Potty" I heart skips a beat or I hold my breath whilst my eyes focus!!

Please tell me it isn't only me and my DC that are counting the days (hours, minutes, seconds...)

BandofMothers · 15/06/2007 21:58

Oooops, meant 6th form, not ^th form

tigerschick · 15/06/2007 21:58

Wow ... small indeed! Did you have Dr Tilbrook, Mrs Riding, Mr Thorpe, Mrs Toms, Mr Lever or Mr Hickie???

BTW, So sorry for hijack everyone, just never come across anyone I might have known on here before.

becklespeckledfrog · 15/06/2007 22:00

I am sure Snape was not at school at the same time as Hagrid and Voldemort as he was there with James & co and I get the impression that they were fairly young parents.
In HBP I think it was Mrs Weasley who said that people often rushed in times of trouble like there was not enough future. She said there were lots of elopments when Voldemort was at the height of his power before.

BandofMothers · 15/06/2007 22:01

Was so long ago

Tilbrook sounds familiar, History I believe. 20th century. My GOD he was boring.

Didn't really socialise a lot tho. Just went to lessons and went home

BandofMothers · 15/06/2007 22:02

BTW How many A Levels did you do?????

Mrs Riding sounds familiar too, what did she teach???

tigerschick · 15/06/2007 22:05

I think that the book was either an old copy or an old edition when Snape had it. I can't imagine he, and therefore Harry's parents, was at school 50 years ago.
I agree that Harry's parents were proabably quite young.

BoM - Tilbrook was History and General Studies, I did both. He was a lecherous old sod ... talked to your chest - and I haven't really got one!!!

tigerschick · 15/06/2007 22:07

Mrs Riding was History too.
I did 4 - History was 2 teachers; General Studies (what a waste of time) was 1, but same as History; English; Theatre Studies and Mr Hickie was my tutor. I did GCSE sociology with Mr Thorpe.

BandofMothers · 15/06/2007 22:13

God, I just can't remember with that kind of detail.

Well you're welcome to join us for the film. I live about 10 miles from Oakham, so not too far. Might be going to see it in Loughborough tho as is where my sis lives.

tigerschick · 15/06/2007 22:17

If you let me know when and where I'll see what I can do. Thank you again for the offer

I have to say, HATS OFF to all who remebered the mention of the locket in OoTP! I re-read it yesterday and had to read that paragraph twice before I really took it on board - and that was only because I'd seen it referred to on this thread!

BandofMothers · 15/06/2007 22:21

Will do then.

I only remembered it had been mentioned after it was on here. I haven't read the 5th and 6th books as many times. As I've been offline for a week I've read loads and am coming to the end of the 4th book again. Am really looking forward to the OOTP this time.

dewmeadow · 15/06/2007 22:47

I still havent got over Dumbledore dying - admittedly I was pregnant and v hormonal but I cried for ages.

tigerschick · 15/06/2007 22:52

I didn't believe it to begin with and had to re-read the chapter straight away. But now I am sure he is dead, whether he intended to be or not. It was extremely upsetting and one of the reasons that I don't think that the pink, fluffy ending I want is going to happen.

MrsWho · 15/06/2007 23:01

Think it was his mothers book.

Steward · 16/06/2007 07:12

If I am thinking it right, I think the date on the book was when it was published or the edition. But the fact that it was 50 years old may be clue.

MrsWeasley · 16/06/2007 08:37

Sirius died again last night I could feel a real lump in my chest as Harry was so angry and desperate! Just wanted to jump into the book and sort it all out for him !

Anyway onwards and upwards and nearer and nearer to the end

but do I want it to end, can I actually cope with it ending ???

Starting book 6 again today so will pay particular attention to the ownership of the potion book. I had thought that it was just snapes but will pay more attention to this now!

34 Days, 15 Hours, 22 Minutes, 45 Seconds to go

BandofMothers · 16/06/2007 08:40

Hermione thought it might be Snape's mum's didn't she tho. Cos her last name was Prince.
I HATE when a good series of books ends, it's like someone dies[over reaction] but isn't it tho??

I was wondering as rereading GoF this week if Dobby would be in the last one, so glad he is. Elf's are supposed to be extremely powerful so I wonder how they became so enslaved.

pudding77 · 16/06/2007 10:24

Perhaps the house elfs will rise up?

Just read about the potions book & it belonged to Eileen Prince, haven't got much further tho so don't know if anything else is mentioned about it.

I've been putting off finishing HBP because of DD

BandofMothers · 16/06/2007 10:27

I reread that one first thinking it would take ages. It didn't so now reading all of them again and am near end of GoF. They are just about to enter the maze.
I had a thought. They're just trying to get Rita Skeeter and Harry I think, said she wouldn't have shown up on the Marauders map, but she would've tho as Peter Pettigrew and Sirius did in Animagus form.

pudding77 · 16/06/2007 10:32

that's true, but they weren't looking for her on the marauder's map were they? So they wouldn't have necessarily seen her iyswim

BandofMothers · 16/06/2007 10:44

True. There would be an awful lot of dots on there.

Am thoroughly enjoying reading them all again.
Can't wait for the new one.
How many times must I have said that on this thread

LazyLine · 16/06/2007 13:01

Eileen Prince was Snape's mother.

Songbird · 16/06/2007 13:18

Oakham where they Poke 'em!! My father and grandfather used to farm in Owston and my 3 brothers were born in Oakham. My Granny lived around there her whole life and in Uppingham until she died earlier this year (aged 100, the water's obviously good!!). Unfortunately mum and dad moved to Lincs a year before I was born. I adore Rutland.

Anyhoo, back to HP! I thought the whole 50 year old potions book thing was just (or mainly) to throw us off the scent. I think we were supposed to believe it was Voldy's. It could have been Snape's mother's or it could have just been old coz his family was a bit poor.

Sunshinemummy · 16/06/2007 13:35

I think both the Elves and the Goblins willbe set free like the statue in the Ministry of Magic suggests.
Sirius died for me yesterday as well, only I was sat at my desk at work crying like a berk.

tigerschick · 16/06/2007 14:26

lol Songbird - better than Langham where they hand 'em!
I drive thru Owston to get to the garden centre at Cold Overton.
Uppingham is a nice little town, our nearest 'centre', if you can call it that

I like the idea of the elves and goblins getting their freedom, as long as they choose the 'right' side! Not sure what that would entail with the goblins as they are not in the books as much, only really at Gringotts. It would be great to have the elvish army lead by Dobby!

tigerschick · 16/06/2007 14:27

hang em
