Is anyone else getting really excited (borderline obsessed)about he new HP book?
I have re-read all the other 6 and everytime I scan down active convos and see "Potty" I heart skips a beat or I hold my breath whilst my eyes focus!!

Please tell me it isn't only me and my DC that are counting the days (hours, minutes, seconds...)

I was considering consulting the book myself Pudding before you linked to that site, intend to have a good nose through the site when I have a minute. Interesting to know a member of the Black family had the surname Potter, although apparently not Harry's grandmother as she died too young and apparently his grandparents were fairly old when they died.

pudding77 · 15/06/2007 18:23

There's also Longbottoms & Crouchs in there too, but remember a few characters have said there was lots of inter-marrying!

singingmum · 15/06/2007 19:52

Beckle wouldn't have the Potter on there have been the great grandparents(am lookinfg at this far to closely)?

LazyLine · 15/06/2007 20:01

There is a Charlus Potter on the Black family tree, back in the 20's. You can see that on the Lexicon on the James Potter page.

All of the older wizarding families are connected somehow.

LazyLine · 15/06/2007 20:02

or the potter family page, even.

MrsWeasley · 15/06/2007 20:42

Oh I love that hp-lexicon site I also like the JKRowling.com site it has loads of hidden bits and have found some great things like early ideas etc.

Singingmum, it says this on the site:-

"It is doubtful that Dorea is Harry's grandmother because Jo has told us that "James's parents were elderly, were getting on a little when he was born, which explains the only child, very pampered, had-him-late-in-life-so-he's-an-extra-treasure, as often happens I think. They were old in Wizardng terms and they died." Dorea was only 57 when she died."

I am guessing that her husband Charlus Potter could be a great-uncle or something?

Do wizards usually live longer than muggles???

singingmum · 15/06/2007 21:06

Just thought that maybe there is some teen parents involved somewhereteehee

BandofMothers · 15/06/2007 21:09

DD is fairly old isn't he. He only looked a bit younger in CoS flashbacks to 50 yrs ago. Still had long beard just not grey.

tigerschick · 15/06/2007 21:10

Don't know about the living longer thing. It's difficult because there aren't any ages of adults in the books.

But ... the HBP's spell book is about 50 years old and Snape was at school with Lily and James ... but I suppose the book could have been old when he got it.

singingmum · 15/06/2007 21:11

Does anyone else wish JK would write a guide to all that we want to know about different characters?
Am seriously in danger of being annoyed at lack of certain info.

BandofMothers · 15/06/2007 21:13

Tiger, don't think the book was 50 yrs old was it???

BTW, I love in Leicestershire, you can come to see OOTP with me and my sister if you like.
I lived in Oakham 11 yrs ago

Might know you...................

BandofMothers · 15/06/2007 21:14

That was of course, supposed to say I live in ........, but have had 2 pints of cider and am a complete lightweight

becklespeckledfrog · 15/06/2007 21:18

I think the HBP's book may have been Snape's mother's book? Voldemort was at Hogwarts 50 years previously but Snape, James, Sirius & co were there later than that. Seem to remember Harry looking for the date in the book to see if it was his mother's but it was too old.
Found this defenition of Voldemort's name and love it!
volatus - latin for flight
de - latin for away from
mort - latin for death

BandofMothers · 15/06/2007 21:25

Cool Beckle. Convenient then that his name was an anagram of I am Lord Voldemort isn't it

tigerschick · 15/06/2007 21:28

BoM - Ooo that is so nice of you ... hmmm ... may take you up on that, but it depends on if I can get someone to have dd.
I was in Oakham 94-6 at the Sixth Form College.

I like the Voldemort definition ... very cool!

I can't find the reference but I remeber now that when Harry looked for the date of the book it was too old for his parents so would, therefore, be too old for Snape. So you are probably right that it was his mother's, or just second hane, or an old edition.

BandofMothers · 15/06/2007 21:36

Ooh, I was 18 in 95, so must have been there at the same time as you.
WIERD.............

MrsWeasley · 15/06/2007 21:38

Sorry i am getting confused which book are you talking about? The potions book in HBP?

OP posts:
tigerschick · 15/06/2007 21:39

Were you at the 6th form? I was a border.

tigerschick · 15/06/2007 21:39

MrsW - Yes the Half Blood Prince's potions book that Harry uses.

MrsWeasley · 15/06/2007 21:41

It belonged to Snape, he wrote the extra bits in it !

OP posts:
tigerschick · 15/06/2007 21:51

Yes, but it was 50 years old, 'im sure. But Snape isn't that old, or is he?

tigerschick · 15/06/2007 21:53

Sorry, I mean, it was his when he wrote in it but it may have been his mother's first. Or, what sparked the discussion, maybe wizards live longer and so spend longer between childhood and parenthood? Tho I'm sure that Voldemort and Hagrid were at Hogwarts 50 years earlier.

BandofMothers · 15/06/2007 21:56

I went to the ^th form. Must have been between 93 and 95, as I was 30 this year.
Not a border tho.
Isn't it a small world.

BandofMothers · 15/06/2007 21:57

Hagrid was in his 3rd year at Hogwarts when the CoS was opened as he got blamed. DD was Transfiguration Teacher and keeping his eye on Tom Riddle. But as it was 50 yrs ols, and he was fairly old already I'd guess they live a bit longer at least.
