Is anyone else getting really excited (borderline obsessed)about he new HP book?
I have re-read all the other 6 and everytime I scan down active convos and see "Potty" I heart skips a beat or I hold my breath whilst my eyes focus!!

Please tell me it isn't only me and my DC that are counting the days (hours, minutes, seconds...)

MrsWeasley at least you've done your ironing I have large pile and would at the mo prefer MN and HP to doing it as it's to hot

Nymphadora · 12/06/2007 19:31

Loads of mythology/astronomy stuff in HP, I read a book on it once

MrsWeasley · 12/06/2007 20:51

I've just written a HP quiz to do as a fundraiser for our local school.

Its only on the first 3 books due to the age of the children involved and I have to keep cutting question because its info I've gleamed from other places and it may not be in the books. (some are simple things like when is the twins birthday? I thought this was a good question but cant find reference to it in any book, may keep it in anyway as I like the answer.)

I Love reading the HP school book, magical creatures (the added comments are funny)

I wrote the quiz then was given a HP quiz book

So WHEN is the twins' birthday.
I'd be happy to jump naked out of a cake if required.

MrsWeasley · 12/06/2007 22:05

LOL sorry its the 1st of April (April Fools Day)

I love Lupin's name too - the latin word for wolf is Lupus.

Songbird · 13/06/2007 10:56

Mmnn, he was obviously destined to be a werewolf with a name like that!

I love that Dumbledore is Old-English for bumble bee.

Something that annoys me about the books () is that we never ?see? Hermione or Ron having a birthday ? there?s no mention of it at all (except a brief bit about Ron coming of age in the last one). Wouldn?t take much to squeeze that in, surely!

kate100 · 13/06/2007 15:33

Dh has a new theory, he thinks that Kreacher was the one to help Regulus, if it was him take the locket. He wouldn't have registered on the boat as he wasn't an adult wizard and he could have helped Regulus to drink the potion.

Shame about Ron and the Quidditch and the elves as they they're so important in the books. One thing that really bugs me about the films is how Ginny is portrayed, she's supposed to be a real firecracker on the next books and in the last book at the ball, they dressed her as if she was about 7 years old.

Still reading GOF, a page fell out of it yesterday, it's definitely been read too much

MrsWho · 13/06/2007 18:23

Good theory , not read that anywhere before!

It makes sense too as Kreacher would have had to obey him and also Regulus was on the 'right' side from Kreachers POV (assuming he didn't know about Regulus plan)

pudding77 · 13/06/2007 20:25

Just coming up to the whole Regulus bit as can't remember it at all

I'm finding I'm reading HBP much quicker than OotP though, think I want to get the death out of the way this time!

Songbird · 14/06/2007 10:52

Oh my god, I LOVE that idea! Hats off to your dh kate, mine won?t play at all! He was looking for a book to read the other day and I suggested he try HBP again but he just did that non-committal ?nyuh? noise and picked up some boring autobiography. I think it?s getting too involved for him, and he?s not into it enough to reread things and remember who?s who and what?s what.

I?m considering divorce!

tigerschick · 14/06/2007 11:23

Right - It has taken me hours to read this thread thru but I wanted to be sure I knew where it went before posting.

I'm rubbish at thinking up theories but I like several on here ... not too sure about a couple but there are far too many to go into specifics.

Dh hasn't read any of the books and isn't overly interested, he's not a big reader at all really. But he has seen all the films and says that they are good from a non-reader's point of view, IYSWIM. But he did say that there were a couple of times when things didn't make sense ... but can't think of any examples atm

Definately putting a watch on this thread so I don't get so far behind again

Songbird · 14/06/2007 11:32

Welcome tiger, it's always good to have more HP obsessed people around! Things have slowed down here of late - we need fresh blood with fresh ideas we can ridicule

tigerschick · 14/06/2007 12:21

Sorry - like I said, I'm a bit rubbish on the theories front.
I think that, if she is going to kill HP off then it must be done in a very sensitive, ultimate sacrifice, reunite with family, type of way. Otherwise I think she would be roundly criticised! By me as much as anyone.
I'm also not sure how much we can trust anything that is on websites, even her own as anything and everything could be red herrings.
I would love to see a happy ending all round with H and Ginny, Ron and 'Mione, Neville and Luna pairing off ... but I'm not sure it's on the cards. If JKR went in for fluffy, happy endings, she wouldn't have killed off Sirius and Dd. She could have achieved a similar effect by making them in some way unreachable in a temporary way. So I don't think it's looking good for the rosy ending, sorry.

pudding77 · 14/06/2007 12:29

Hi tigerschick & welcome, glad you found us

I'm not so sure about the unhappy ending, but then I'm so adamant that everyone's going to live happily ever after I'm not listening to anyone who suggests otherwise

Btw 26d 11h 30m 25s to go to the book!

tigerschick · 14/06/2007 13:10

I can't bear it!!

I'm excited about the book coming out but I've got a holiday to go on first ... must get priorities in order!!!

btw, I re-read HBP in preparation, thinking that I knew the others well enough by now ... but after reading this thread I'm re-reading OoTP too. Don't have the others any more but am waiting for the inevitable box set before getting them again.

Sunshinemummy · 14/06/2007 15:26

I'm sure there's loads of clues in OOTP but Ive got so caught up in how hateful Umbridge is that I've forgotten to look.

tigerschick · 14/06/2007 15:53

That is the trouble with OoTP. I find it really quite hard to enjoy because I get sooooooo angry at Umbridge that I get all wound up! I have to say, I think that it is ... well it's not my favourite book of the serise. I shall be interested to see how I feel about the film. But I'll have to wait til it comes out on dvd I think as dh won't go to the cinema (it's just an expensive nap to him, regardless of the film) and I'm too much of a wimp to go on my own

Sunshinemummy · 14/06/2007 15:55

I really like it and it's amazing that she managed, in the midst of all the vil, to make her such a hated character. She's a vile child abuser. Makes me want to smack her when she smiles that horrible smile.

tigerschick · 14/06/2007 15:59

I know, it's a good story and extremely well written but I find the character so awful that I get bogged down in it!! Also, partly because there is no Quidditch, there are very few light-hearted parts which do crop up in other the stories. Or maybe I'm doind it a disservice. Have just started re-reading it so may feel differently when I've finished it this time.

Sunshinemummy · 14/06/2007 16:29

The Fred and George stuff is funny and I laughed out loud at something last night but can't remember what it was now (it was after a couple of wines). Am enjoying it and looking forward to her getting her come-uppance, but Harry is just about to use the fire in her office to contact Sirius and am soooo anxious about it even though I know what happens.

becklespeckledfrog · 14/06/2007 16:41

Oooh Kate! I love that theory, have been wondering how Regulus (assuming it was him) managed to get that locket! Wonder what happened to him, could he have died from drinking the stuff in the basin?
Also think the idea that the house elves will feature in the 'final battle' is a good one, they are meant to be quite powerful aren't they?
I love Fred and George's characters! Love the bit where they leave the school and tell Peeves to give Umbridge hell - and he salutes!
Also love their "U-No-Poo - the constipation sensation thats sweeping the nation!" (or something like that). Trust them to see the funny side in the darkest of times.
Hi Tigerschick, welcome to the thread!

Sunshinemummy · 14/06/2007 16:44

They're great aren't they? I hope they're in the new book. I hope some of their jokey things help with the fight against HWMNBN.

tigerschick · 14/06/2007 16:58

Have to agree - love the twins and really hope that they feature in the next book.
Also like the Kreacher idea. He would still have passed to HP even if Reg was alive because Sirius willed him to HP. Dd said that if it didn't work he would have gone to Bellatrix, so if Reg was alive Kreacher would still be HP's because of the will. But, if elves are powerful, wouldn't one register with the boat? Dd said that HP didn't register because he was underage but an elf might ... hmmmm ... not sure.

Thanks BSF - just no looking forward to having to catch up again in a couple of weeks after my hols and enforced absence!!

becklespeckledfrog · 14/06/2007 17:35

Don't think an elf would register in the boat because I think that Voldemort wouldn't think they were of any importance. He thinks power is everything and as house elves are effectively slaves he wouldn't pay them much heed. He is quite narrow-minded!
