obsessed with Harry P?

Is anyone else getting really excited (borderline obsessed)about he new HP book?
I have re-read all the other 6 and everytime I scan down active convos and see "Potty" I heart skips a beat or I hold my breath whilst my eyes focus!!

Please tell me it isn't only me and my DC that are counting the days (hours, minutes, seconds...)

DD would never be a ghost, he says that "to the well ordered mind, death is just the next great adventure."

Shrinkinglily · 01/06/2007 13:06

It's just that Voldemort goes to huge lengths to avoid death because he is so afraid of it and it seems very unadmirable in the book to become a ghost and not face death properly... Of course someone as gallant as Dd wasn't afraid to die (sniff)

seamonster · 01/06/2007 13:07

But if Lily and James were outside they would be unprotected by the spell.

becklespeckledfrog · 01/06/2007 13:08

Think Lily and James would have been protected outside, surely the spell was on them and not just their house?

Songbird · 01/06/2007 13:11

Mmnn, you're right, Nick was too cowardly wasn't he? So maybe Voldy would refuse to move on, mmmmnnnnn......

Out of Harry, Ron and Hermione, Harry definitely has the best instincts - Hermy is book smart, and Ron gets by on dumb luck! But you're right, he ain't no Dumbledore. I'm a big fan of Buffy (I know, I know, I'm 30 years old for God's sake!) and keep thinking she'd never get very far on her own either.

Shrinkinglily · 01/06/2007 13:21

Anyway ghosts are pretty powerless are they not? So I think it would be very apt for voldemort to hopelessly haunt hogworts for eternity....

becklespeckledfrog · 01/06/2007 13:25

What I want to know is how on earth Harry is going to find all the horcruxes and destroy them? I doubt very much that Voldemort left a list any where with descriptions, locations and how to find/destroy them!

Shrinkinglily · 01/06/2007 13:36

Yes dd had been hunting them down for years hadn't he. So I suppose there will be clues, what a fun and juicy plot...she's a genius really.

MrsWeasley · 01/06/2007 17:09

perhaps Harry will have use of DD's pensieve and his memories. Also as he will come of age he will maybe have access to other people or ways of getting information.

Am desperately trying to remember where I read about James and Lily being Aurors (maybe I dreamt it)

Pisses me off.
I read that Bloomsbury have an 8 person team dedicated to sorting out J.K's royalties from her sales around the world.
Maybe they should spend a little more money investing in new writers?

becklespeckledfrog · 01/06/2007 18:32

Good point MrsWeasley! Hmmm, was wondering too today about RAB. Am fairly sure it is Regulus Black but what happened to him? Is he dead? If he is not then why did Kreacher not pass to his ownership when Sirius died? I know Sirius left him to Harry but if there was still a Black male alive might that overide Sirius's will? Wonder if Harry can ask Dumbledore's portrait some questions? Don't know if it works like that or not! How much of the person's personality/soul remains in the portrait? Or...after you have died and moved on can you pop back to your portrait as a link to the 'real' world???

pudding77 · 01/06/2007 19:49

too many questions! aaggghhhh!

Do you know what I was wondering today? Very bizarre but how do witches give birth? Do they have to do it the 'muggle' way or do you think the midwife (or whatever they have) can wave their wand and magic the baby out?

janeite · 01/06/2007 19:59

I wondered about the whole Harry dying and re-joing his family and Sirius and Dumbledore thing but I really hope she doesn't do that, as it's rather too Narnia-esque I think. Then again, being derivative has never stopped her before!

Perhaps at the end someone will look into the mirror and see Harry with all his family.

pudding77 · 01/06/2007 20:17

btw, I don't think anything has been said yet about what Harry's parents did, I think that's what comes in the next book. However, Neville's parents were Aurors.

I do think Snape will die but I think he is actually good, I'm reading GoF at the minute and there's a lot in there about how Snape turned spy for DD. He killed DD so that Malfoy wouldn't have to but he's still on the right side iyswim.

BandofMothers · 01/06/2007 21:01

But what a HUGE sacrifice for DD to make just to keep Malfoy from killing. I guess Snape couldn't save DD tho or his cover would've been blown.

becklespeckledfrog · 02/06/2007 00:14

Ahh, I like that ending BOM, much better than him just being dead!
Sorry for all the questions pudding - v nosey to see what others think!

Nightynight · 02/06/2007 07:52

BOM - I am sure the biggest thing was not blowing Snapes cover. DD knew that he was dying, and he couldnt kill Voldemort himself, and that Snape was the only one who could help Harry/Neville (I am still hoping it will be Neville!) do it.
So, it was all part of DDs master plan....

seamonster · 02/06/2007 09:36

Neville isn't the one the prophecy refers to,as by choosing Harry, Voldemort chose his opponent. It could have been Neville but isn't.
I would love to see him kick some butt though, perhaps his parents attackers?

BandofMothers · 02/06/2007 09:44

Maybe that is why DD was asking for Snape, not as potions master to cure him, but to tell him what he had to do after DD died

OMG why hadn't I thought of that before.

BandofMothers · 02/06/2007 09:46

Wouldn't it be interesting if Snape and Harry ended up covertly working together against DD?
That would be a cool story line. Snape could try and find out where the Horcruxes are and secretly tell HP, so he could get them.
I will miss all this discussion of what might happen when the book comes out but am dying to find out

BandofMothers · 02/06/2007 09:47

Sorry meant against Voldemort, got DD on the brain

MrsWho · 02/06/2007 21:48

Re the magic in later life, it doesn't have to mean old, as most wizarsd/witches show signs when they are little so Dudley could still be late.

I have read all the books this week when we were away !

pudding77 · 03/06/2007 15:11

I'm up to OotP now, and enjoying them v much again!
