Is anyone else getting really excited (borderline obsessed)about he new HP book?
I have re-read all the other 6 and everytime I scan down active convos and see "Potty" I heart skips a beat or I hold my breath whilst my eyes focus!!

Please tell me it isn't only me and my DC that are counting the days (hours, minutes, seconds...)

I won't get to see the film at the cinema, will have to wait until dvd/sky as dh refuses to go and none of my friends like HP

pudding77 · 31/05/2007 12:59

Re theme park, definitely taking ds there!

DumbledoresGirl · 31/05/2007 13:00

pudding77, go to the cinema on your own. I did to see HP4.

pudding77 · 31/05/2007 13:09

I've tried that before DG, but I hate going on my own!

Anyone got a child old enough to see it I can borrow?

Nightynight · 31/05/2007 13:16

am I the only person who thinks that Snape will survive, having helped Harry or Neville to kill Voldemort, and will become the next headmaster of Hogwarts?

becklespeckledfrog · 31/05/2007 13:27

If you want to travel to Braintree Pudding you can go with me!

Not sure Snape will ever become headmaster of Hogwarts Nightynight but do think he will help get rid of Voldemort.

casbie · 31/05/2007 13:56

wow! ten years of harry potter and only two months to go!!

love to hear all your theories, i am crap at projecting these things.

re-reading now and can't wait for the final episode. want the book to at least 3,000 pages long!

Songbird · 31/05/2007 15:25

OK, it?s taken me yonks to read through all that, glad all the Snape is Harry?s father stuff has died down ? what rubbish .

I too think DD (not you DrD!) ordered Snape to kill him and that?s why he begged him (God how awful was that, though?), to protect Malfoy. I have hope for Malfoy, but we can?t lose all the baddies!

Wormtail?s debt and Harry?s blood in the regenerative potion will be crucial I reckon, but how, I don?t know!

RAB is Regalus and the locket is the one at Grimmauld Place. Remember Regalus had his named burned off the family tree because he betrayed Voldemort or something.

I read somewhere that one of the main characters becomes a teacher at Hogwarts ? my money?s on Neville.

Harry, Ron and Hermione will survive ? all the books end with them together and I think this one will as well.

I think Ron is perfect for Hermione, yes she?d drive him up the wall but she?s the kind of girl who will just love being a nag (come on, you all know one! Or are one ).

Hagrid (sob!) and Snape will die, the latter possibly saving Harry?s life.

Reeeeeally don?t know about this eyes thing, not convinced they or any other part of Harry is a horcrux, but JKR has said they?re important.

But the thing I really want to know, and have wondered about from book 1, is where the heck did Lily and James get all that money from? Harry?s vault is filled with dosh, and they weren?t very old. I?m very disgruntled that we have never known anything about James?s family, barely even the briefest of mentions. We know Sirius (songbird licks lips?) stayed at his house in the holidays, but nothing about them.

I can not wait! I?ll probably do what I always do ? read it far too quickly so I get the gist but not much detail, then have to reread it again straight away. Dh gave up on HBP long ago (wtf?) so I won?t have to worry about him wanting to read it ? thank heaven for small mercies!

Shrinkinglily · 31/05/2007 15:42

Oh yeah good point about the money!

Songbird · 31/05/2007 15:52

We don?t even know what Lily and James did for a living do we? They were in the Order, but other than that?

PenelopePitstops · 31/05/2007 16:09

apparently we find out in this book, thats why its so important. They make all their money doing whatever they did too.

Songbird · 31/05/2007 16:13

Oooh, good, it's been really bothering me.

seamonster · 31/05/2007 16:13

reading through I've seen loads of theories that have been debunked. Why not look at JKR's official website and the fansites she likes and see what they have to say. I'd like to join in with all the fun though.

DrDaddy · 31/05/2007 16:36

Petunia Dursley makes some comment about James Potter never having worked (I think to Marge in POA)...It's always bugged me why not. HP seems remarkably uninterested in either of his parents except what they were like at school. In James Potter's case: a bit of an arse, in fact.

DrDaddy · 31/05/2007 16:37

songbird - LOL @ you making clear that I didn't order Snape to do kill me!

DrDaddy · 31/05/2007 16:38

ignore the "do" in the previous post, obviously. doh!

seamonster · 31/05/2007 16:52

If I am repeating anything, sorry, had to rush through the last few posts. Here is what I remember reading on JK's site and the sites she lists on her website.
Apparently Mrs Norris is not an animagus and is a normal but creepy cat. None of the squibs perform magic. Aunt Petunia does not do magic although a muggle CAN (and might?) if under extreme circumstances. I don't agree that Snape is Harry's father. I think JK actually has said that too. Harry is not a horcrux and yes his eyes are very important. Dumbledore is dead.

IMO I agree that RAB is likely to be Regulus. And that the pheonix is important (was it Dumbledore's Patronus taking a message to some-one?)

(and breathe)

Nightynight · 31/05/2007 17:09

oh [thick] I thought Harrys parents were Aurors?

MrsWeasley · 31/05/2007 17:44

yeap Harry parents were Aurors.
For those who want to check our JK Rowlings site its here

Pudding if you are anywhere near to (Sunny) Swindon you are welcome to come with me and my tribe. (we are already going twice and wouldn't need any persuading to go again! )

OP posts:
seamonster · 31/05/2007 18:00

Mugglenet have a small section with debunked rumours about book 7.

Songbird · 31/05/2007 18:44

Aurors, that makes sense. But I think it would have been mentioned by McGonagall (sp?) when HP said that's what he wanted to be . Also, not sure that would explain the amount of money they had. Perhaps it was a Child Trust Fund and The Ministry of Magic and put in £250 galleons!

Something else I remembered, the non-magical person does magic late in life, so unless she does a 'and when Dudley was 80 years old he suddenly pulled a rabbit out of a hat' in the last chapter its likely to be someone already oldish in book 7, so Mrs Figg or wotsisname, damn my baby-addled brain, the blummin caretaker, or someone else I can't remember.

DrD, that's quite alright I wouldn't want to inadvertantly start any scurrilous rumours about you!

seamonster · 31/05/2007 18:49

No, apparently its neither Mrs Figg nor...um... Mr Filch (couldn't remember his name either!) Or Petunia.

PenelopePitstops · 31/05/2007 18:52

I dont think they were aurors, Mcgonagal would have said so wouldnt she? Cant find anywhere it says they were.

seamonster · 31/05/2007 19:05

James inherited his money and the invisibility cloak. Hence why he needed no job.
There is something odd about the cats though...
Did anyone realise that Lily and James died at Halloween?
Can't see any imformation about them being Aurors though, just that they joined the Order.

DrDaddy · 31/05/2007 20:21

"James inherited his money and the invisibility cloak. Hence why he needed no job."
Yes, but doesn't Petunia say "oh, he didn't work" in a kind of awkward fashion. Of course, I'm recalling the way in which Fiona Shaw utters the line in the film version of POA rather than going back to check the original text! Bad DrD!
