This month we're giving you the chance to win TWO copies of We Were Liars - one for you and one for your teen! This gripping tale of a troubled family in New England will give you both plenty to discuss poolside this summer.

We've got 100 copies of We Were Liars to give away to 50 lucky Mumsnetters, so apply for yours now! The giveaway ends on Monday 8 August.

We ask all winners to share their thoughts (and their teen's thoughts) about the book on this discussion thread. However, you don't have to win free copies to take part in the discussion - anyone who has read We Were Liars can post their feedback here (and you can buy a copy of the book now).

Everyone who posts on the thread before 26 September will be entered into a prize draw to win a £100 Love2shop voucher.

I received this book yesterday from the mumsnet giveaway and I have already finished it.

A loved lost, a life lived within a lie and teenage angst oozing as the tale of We Were Liars progresses.

What a powerful yet sad book. With a slow build up it still managed to grip me and had me turning the pages at a rapid rate to see just what happened in the Summer of 15 and what the hell was it that Cadence couldn't remember?

A cunning twist that had me feeling rather emotional by the end, I really couldn't have guessed where the author was heading. An absolute mind blowing must read.

Looks like a very interesting read, sat in the garden on a lovely summers evening.

Nanalou · 26/08/2016 09:26

This book arrived in the post yesterday morning my daughter has already read it, this is her thoughts: "it was a very interesting book that showed how people cope with grief in different ways and how those that are privileged do not always consider the consequences of their actions."

Fizzywinegum · 28/08/2016 12:13

This has been on my to read list for a while. I'm very pleased to have received my copies from Mumsnet and look forward to reading the book. Thank you.

RuthCart · 28/08/2016 20:52

Looking forward to reading it on a very wet Bank holiday Monday. I gave my other cop to my (much :( )younger brother to read, I hope we both enjoy it.

Spent a sunny afternoon reading this book - it's a quick read and I finished in a couple of hours. It's hard to say much without giving away the mystery but it's a simple, easy read. The characters were a bit one dimensional and I didn't feel I really got to know any of them. The book centres on an accident and what really happened that day. It drew me in, although I worked it out about halfway through and then continued reading to check I was right.

My daughter is currently reading the other copy and thoroughly enjoying it. She's been nagging me for clues but I'm not cavingGrin

Givemecoffeeplease · 30/08/2016 05:39

I liked this book, well written, strong characters and a nest twist. Priviledged and moneyed, the kids have fun but there is an undertone and all isn't as it seems.

Kannet · 30/08/2016 06:12

I loved this book. Dos not even realise it was aimed at young readers

incognito26 · 30/08/2016 06:26

Both my DD (age 11) and I have read the book.

I thought the book was predictable. Half way through I had worked out the 'twist'

My daughter enjoyed the ending but found the book rather depressing to read and didn't like any of the characters enough to care about them

ttsand · 30/08/2016 19:32

I came across this book on my Kindle while on holiday and I really don't know how it came to be there! However I found it very interesting as an adult and recommended it to my teens to read too.

FoxInABox · 02/09/2016 15:27

I really enjoyed this, and have given a copy to my teenage niece too. I wasn't expecting much with it being a teen book but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

wifeupnorth · 03/09/2016 14:04

My daughter would love to read this. She's 12 so not quite a teenager but positively loves this type of book.

ftovey7 · 04/09/2016 16:42

My sister has read this and said it was a very good book, would love the chance to read it myself.

angiehoggett · 06/09/2016 12:15

great book, I read it recently

stormhorse45 · 07/09/2016 12:19

just finished this book. it was ok but is aimed more at young adults so didnt expect a brilliant read for an adult. still it was ok.

henbane · 07/09/2016 23:39

I was lucky enough to win the review copies. I've just finished reading it myself and thought it was excellent as an adult book, let alone for teenagers, though I did guess the twist at the end before I got there! It is very well written; the privileged American background is alien without being alienating & the characters are genuinely sympathetic without being improbably likeable. I shall watch out for more work by Emily Lockhart.

audrey1985 · 08/09/2016 20:06

Yes we did.....we are all liars :-)

CopperPan · 09/09/2016 10:08

DD enjoyed this book and I read it quite quickly on a day off. I found it enjoyable and engaging, with some interesting twists. It's a great book to get teens engaged with reading.

Reebs123 · 09/09/2016 11:29

A bit of a slow start and too many characters to make it an easy read. However, "We were liars" was an interesting read with an exciting and unexpected ending that I never saw coming.

I did find it offensive that the author named two of the dogs "Prince Phillip" & "Fatima". Poor choice of names in my view.

zombeana · 09/09/2016 13:35

good book, interesting twist

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 09/09/2016 13:37

It's a wonderful book, very skilfully written twist.
I like twists that make perfect sense once you know them.

Ontopofthesunset · 09/09/2016 13:44

I think it's probably a good book for teenagers. I read it very quickly and thought it was well plotted and cleverly constructed though the twist was rather unbelievable. The author's style was a bit grating, but, again, she is writing for young adults (for example, the way she summed up characters in three words: "Johnny. He is beach, muscles and snark" - obviously not an exact quotation as I don't have the book to hand).

4isplenty · 11/09/2016 09:10

I have now finished this book and found that I liked it alot, full of the self righteous knowledge of all teenagers. I didnt see the ending coming so it was a pleasant surprise to be bamboozled. My daughter is working through hers and I will post more when I have her opinion :)

dencross · 11/09/2016 21:01

I'd like to read it as would eldest daughter

lsymons · 12/09/2016 12:33
