Now I know, why it was only £3 - one of those books where nothing would happen like that.

I loved that book about the Frasers. I like her books generally actually.

SouthWestmom · 12/02/2016 15:21

Well sadly I'm about forty pages into another crap attempt at what seems to be the current faddy genre -missing child.

The child's secret by Amanda Brooke.

Terrible dialogue, lots of telling not showing and a hero with a mysterious past. There's even an eccentric old landlady who is bound to die at some point.

Well - don't bother with A J Waines No Safe Place - tosh, despite stunningly positive Amazon reviews.

SouthWestmom · 14/02/2016 16:47

Someone on my FB page has recommended 'things we have in common' Which has a review comment by Sophie Hannah on the front, so I'm trying that.

I pre-ordered that one salted, so I'll get to it eventually, but with a wary eye now.

SouthWestmom · 16/02/2016 08:21

One thing I've realised is that trying a free sample does avoid the badly written books. Not the gaping plot holes though.

Ok I must ask - has anyone cracked and bought her new one on the strength of the blurb?! I haven't yet but it sounds intriguing as ever...

SouthWestmom · 25/02/2016 22:16

Nope.
Star for me

However I just read Things we have in Common and it is very very odd. Good, but weird.

Don't do it salt! I'm normally an ardent SH fan but 'The Narrow Bed' is awful. 2D characters who are not explored, half completed subplots and the most ridiculous motive I've ever heard in my life for being a serial killer.

Actually, I half want you to read it so you can be as incredulous as I was Grin

StealthPolarBear · 27/02/2016 22:34

Shit I think I just bought the child's secret today. Will I ever learn?

StealthPolarBear · 27/02/2016 22:35

Yep, along with Friday on my mind and broken promise

SouthWestmom · 27/02/2016 22:46

Stealth I just put that in the recycling bin, unread. Please post back to take the piss out if it.

Which one? Childs secret?
I've just read day four, anyone else? I really liked it, more than the first of those.
I'm currently reading something that I'm struggling to ge into, the shut eye.

SouthWestmom · 27/02/2016 22:51

Yes with the tree? I hated it, so flowery. And sickly sweet wishes the Chad made.

OP posts:
SouthWestmom · 27/02/2016 22:52

Child not Chad!
Funny how two.people can have such different opinions!

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 27/02/2016 22:53

If you're talking about shut eye I don't think I'm there yet. I have only read a few pages but can't remember a thing about it.

StealthPolarBear · 27/02/2016 22:53

Oh are you talking about day four? No definitely no tree, it's set on a cruise ship

SouthWestmom · 27/02/2016 22:58

No the child's secret?

OP posts:
SouthWestmom · 27/02/2016 22:59

I'm going to Google day four

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 27/02/2016 22:59

Ah right. I shall grit my teeth in anticipation for that one then :o

SouthWestmom · 27/02/2016 23:04

It's a series?
I'm reading Sleep Tight

OP posts:
SouthWestmom · 27/02/2016 23:04

You might love it....

Day four? Sort of, in the sense that it came after a book called the third day or somethig. But they aren't really linked at all, there was one reference in day four to the precious book. If they carry on I suspect they're all building to a common theme but you certainly don't need to read the two in order.
Actually the thing that put me off the first one, because I expected it for this one I enjoyed it more.
