What would be the worst possible ending of the last Harry Potter book?

(I have nicked the idea for this thread from another forum I post on so I can't take credit for it)

My lame contribution was:

" ... and Harry woke up to find it had all been an incredible dream ..."

Then someone suggested that it could end with Voldy writing a letter of apology ...

"dear mr potter, sorry for trying to do you in all these years, i saw so many similarities between the two of us and i suppose i was jealous of how well you handle things, and you're so good at quidditch.

sorry for killing your parents, i just get so angry sometimes and i'd heard this thing about having to kill you and i just got carried away

oh yeah, and sorry for the scar

yours

Lord Voldemort BSC Hons"

I thought Order of the Phoenix was a bit slow, but couldn't put Half Blood Prince down!

6 is my favourite! Except for the flashbacks to Voldemort's past although I can see they were needed to explain things more. They slowed the plot down though.

I agree re TP, EPIS - love his books. But JKR...humourless, forgettable and formulaic, IMO.

MarsOnLife · 27/02/2006 20:51

The worse possible ending.... easy.. that would be a cliffhanger making you realise that it wasn't the very last HP book after all!

nikkie · 27/02/2006 22:21

I loved 5 !
I have them all on tape Blush have definatly got more details listening thanreading!

ernest · 28/02/2006 09:04

so to repeat, when does the last book come out? Shouldn't've read this, only 1/3 way through HBP. Can't remember half of this book, never mind the last ones. seive head

meowmix · 28/02/2006 09:21

Hermione gets pregnant and there's doubt over who the father is - HP? Ron? Neville? Hagrid? in absence of dumbledore to sort it out they resort to bringing in jerry springer (aka voldemort?) and fight it out live on national TV. Trisha is injured in the crossfire from a death eating Jeremy Kyle Show producer.

spacedonkey · 28/02/2006 09:41

Jeremy Kyle is definitely a death eater

i just like the idea of Trisha getting caught in the crossfire. Am in EVIL mood today, mwahhahahahaha...

I'm like you SD. As soon as I have read the books, they go out of my head. I love them, and am 1/3 through the O of the Phoexix, for the second time. I do find it a little slower than the others. I think the films have been great, and have really stuck to the feeling in the books. Can't wait to see GOF when it comes out on DVD.

My worst possible ending would be happy all round. Life isn't like that. I don't think Harry will die. I do think that Snape is good really, although (like all my favourite men!) has a bad past...

I agree that someone else is the one, because it knid of hinted at that in the HBP.

MerlinsBeard · 28/02/2006 10:23

I really enjoyed O of the P BUT i did read HBP b4 i read O of the P so it flowed quicker as i was slotting in LOTS that had been missed from skipping a boo. (that'll teach me!!)

Has anyone else started to re read the books again or just me Grin

"I do think that Snape is good really, although (like all my favourite men!) has a bad past... "

Oh yes, eg. Giles from Buffy. Hmmmmmmmmm

And Neville could well be 'the one', you're right Dior. Perhaps he'll be killed whilst killing Voldy and saving the world and Harry and Ginny can have the quiet life Harry so craves. That way none of the kids have to deal with the guilt of killing anyone themselves.

Dior · 28/02/2006 20:43

I also think that, in RL, Harry would be too immature to have given Ginny up for the greater good.

expatinscotland · 28/02/2006 21:59

I agree, Dior. If he were that mature, he'd also be mature enough to send a clear message to all those folks who keep treating him like his dad that he's . . . well, not his dad and to kindly go to f*ck w/that action.

Nightynight · 01/03/2006 08:06

I really hope JKR doesnt kill Neville off, I really like him (he reminds me of one of my children!)

I think the relationship with parents is really hard to come to terms with, am not surprised that Harry is struggling with it.

satine · 01/03/2006 08:41

I don't think HP will get it, but I fear for poor old Neville. I agree that he is The One, and I think he and Voldemort will die together. Then HP will marry Ginny and Snape will take Dumbledore's place as headmaster of Hogwarts.

spacedonkey · 01/03/2006 11:12

oh no satine, I think you are right!

OP posts:
Nightynight · 01/03/2006 12:55

HP is too young to marry anyone though, and JKR has kept the books relevant to real teenagers (as far as possible!) up til now.

Nightynight · 01/03/2006 12:56

Do you think it would work if we started a Save Neville campaign to try and influence JK Rowling?? Sad

DumbledoresGirl · 01/03/2006 13:04

From what I have read, I believe the last chapter of the last book is going to be a kind of round up of all the remaining characters to show how they all turn out - a sort of seeing into the future thing. That diea alone sounds naff to me but if it is the case, you could have Ginny and HP marrying.

I dond't understand how Neville can be "the One". Surely the point is, either Harry or Neville could have been the one - there was nothing to choose between them - until Voldemort decided it must be Harry (because he was half blood like himself) and this decision of Voldemort's made Harry the one. ie Voldemort decided who was to be the one by choosing one of them.

Nightynight · 01/03/2006 13:11

thats what I understood, but I havent read the latest one yet (hbp)

satine · 01/03/2006 13:14

I bow to your superior knowledge, Dumbledore's girl! Can you save Neville?

DumbledoresGirl · 01/03/2006 13:20

I feel Neville is on safer footing than Ron or Hermione myself so don't despair!

Hagrid is going to get it though.

Nightynight · 01/03/2006 13:22

I thought Ron and Hermione were destined for each other...

Hagrid is a very sad character, nothing ever seems to go his way, and Dumbledore was the only one who stood up for him. It is a chilling portrait of what can happen to a child who has lost their parents and has nobody to support them through childhood and adolescence.

DumbledoresGirl · 01/03/2006 13:26

Agree Nightynight, but also feel that what you have said makes it even more inevitable that he is going to die. It is as if he needed Dumbledore to survive and don't forget he is not a qualified wizard so will be much weaker than others when it comes to the fight. JKR said Harry had to lose those dear to him to come out the other end. Obviously not all of them (and I admit to lose Hermione and Ron would be devastating) but I think hagrid is there on the list, near the top. Sorry hagrid. Sad

(Actually, now Dumbledore is apparently gone, I don't care who else cops it. Sad Sad Sad)
