What would be the worst possible ending of the last Harry Potter book?

(I have nicked the idea for this thread from another forum I post on so I can't take credit for it)

My lame contribution was:

" ... and Harry woke up to find it had all been an incredible dream ..."

Then someone suggested that it could end with Voldy writing a letter of apology ...

"dear mr potter, sorry for trying to do you in all these years, i saw so many similarities between the two of us and i suppose i was jealous of how well you handle things, and you're so good at quidditch.

sorry for killing your parents, i just get so angry sometimes and i'd heard this thing about having to kill you and i just got carried away

oh yeah, and sorry for the scar

yours

Lord Voldemort BSC Hons"

How on earth do you all remember all this?!

I've read all the Potters, yet as soon as I put the book down the entire story disappears from my tiny mind

I have a knack for remembering trivial crap.

DumbledoresGirl · 27/02/2006 19:55

It is called obsession Spacedonkey.

Oh and not having very much else to think about!

alexsmum · 27/02/2006 19:55

ra b took the locket-it is the one in in grimmauld place.
regulus died at the time of harry's birth.coincidence? i think not.
dumbledore being dead? not sure- dumbledore did say to harry'not even wizards can come back from the dead'...or words to that effect.
snape is a triple agent.dumbledore ordered him to kill him.that's what they were argiung about in the woods.

hunkermunker · 27/02/2006 19:56

SD, I find HP books incredibly forgettable. I don't think they're very good though.

alexsmum · 27/02/2006 19:56

expat-i love your posts on this-you're just so ...american!!!!Grin

DumbledoresGirl · 27/02/2006 19:56

Well, if JKR is determined to be the most reviled woman in the history of mankind, then yes Harry will die at the end.

But I am betting on Voldemort getting his comeuppance.

expatinscotland · 27/02/2006 19:57

You're just jealous, hunker :o. I know I am! Wish I'd have thought that up!

expatinscotland · 27/02/2006 19:58

Yeah but it'd be so poetic if Harry croaked. I mean, his mother died just to buy him a little more time, most of which was crap taking abuse off the Dursleys, getting hassle at school, and having everyone else he ever loved get whacked.

spacedonkey · 27/02/2006 19:58

I agree that Harry will die

DumbledoresGirl · 27/02/2006 19:59

Oh yes Expat. I happen to love HP, so it is not sour grapes that makes me say this, but I did have a crisis a few months ago when I thought how simple JKR's idea was and how easily I could have become the millionnairess that she is if only I had written them first.

Oliviab · 27/02/2006 20:03

"I'd have just gone OFF on his book ass"
PMSL, fab turn of phrase Expat Grin

I for one would be seriously pissed off to read Harry's parents were brought back to life as a reward / compensation for all Harry's hard work.

FWIW I think Percy Weasely's under that trance spell (forgotten what it's called) and that's why he's been such a wazzock.

Blandmum · 27/02/2006 20:04

The 'real' horcrux locket is in Grimauld place. It is mentioned in book four....a locket that no-one can open. I think old whats his face fenced it

alexsmum · 27/02/2006 20:05

oooh oliviab!!!! that's a really interesting theory-percy under the imperius curse..mmmmm

MerlinsBeard · 27/02/2006 20:06

wonder if when JKR is writing this one she is thinming of it being a childrens story or how well it will be turned in to a film

SD FWIW i don't retain all of the stories either! just bits of it.

Twiglett · 27/02/2006 20:06

expat .. did you just compare Terry Pratchett to JK Rowling? Shock .. wash your mouth out

Oliviab · 27/02/2006 20:08

Also, I agree - the reason Dumbledore so firmly trusted Snape was because he must have made him make at least one unbreakable vow (eg not to help Voldemort would be the sensible one but not much good for plot development LOL.)

I also wonder if Dumby is truly dead - what is the Phoenix motif for otherwise?

SueW · 27/02/2006 20:08

Fawkes is Dumbledore's horcrux?

expatinscotland · 27/02/2006 20:08

No one's coming back to life. That's just a crock. Voldemort has never died, he said so in Goblet of Fire.

JKR has admitted in interviews that she fears death.

That's a luxury, IMO.

I just hope she doesn't go down the Ann Rice route where it just all disintegrated into utter mush.

DumbledoresGirl · 27/02/2006 20:08

Percy is not under the imperius curse. he is working for the ministry and is just a stcuk up prat. He is not showing any signs of doing anything evil. He has been a bit of a prat from book one and I think he just hasn't grown out of it.

expatinscotland · 27/02/2006 20:10

No, Twig, I admitted to reading Terry Pratchett AND JKR, proudly! FWIW, I find Terry Pratchett funny as f*ck b/c he doesn't take himself a bit seriously.

I'm a sucker for a good storyteller. That's why I like Alexander McCall Smith. I like Jay McInerney, too, for that reason.

And HP books. They're just a good story.

spacedonkey · 27/02/2006 20:14

I think if the Potter series was going to deteriorate into mush it would've done by now - but it's been consistently good. JKR had a clear idea of the ending from the first book I think didn't she?

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 27/02/2006 20:15

I agree, SD, IMO the books have gotten better and apparently she did have a whole plan in mind from the get go.

spacedonkey · 27/02/2006 20:16

This is making me want to read the whole lot again ...
