I've recently joined Weight Watchers as I have three stones to lose. Last year's chat thread has gone a bit quiet so I thought I'd start a fresh one for 2019!

Anyone else out there making a fresh start? Smile

You lost 2.5 pounds, well done.

You do not seem to be having much veg or salad, but I do eat lots and find it really filling.

My diet is (very) far from perfect, but this is what I have had today --

Breakfast -- Porridge with skimmed milk, apple and yogurt. 7 points

Lunch - Tuna, huge salad, bread roll. Watermelon and yohurt. 6 points

Dinner - Ckn curry with 30g basmati rice, carrots and beans. 4 points

I am on 23 points per day and plan to have two small glasses of wine shortly. I am in NZ so it is 8.50 pm here, am not drinking wine for breakfastGrin

FromDespairToHere · 22/01/2019 10:13

Madein that sounds like a healthy loss to me. I'm over 21 stone and lost 2lbs a week so far and very happy with that!

Ditsy79 · 22/01/2019 12:02

madein 2.5 lbs is a great loss. I lost 1lb the first week, and 2lb this week. I also thought I would see a bigger loss at first, but am hoping that slow and steady losses will continue. Out of interest are you counting milk for drinks etc? That uses up 5 of my daily points in one go.

Madein1995 · 22/01/2019 13:41

Thanks gang 😀 I just do feel a bit disappointed but I know I'm being silly. I need to get out of the losing weight mindset and into healthy habits mindset. Existing on weigh day on salad and feeling faint and then losing 6lb, is not healthy. Nor is it true weight loss, nor is it a race. I need to view it as a lifestyle change and not just a diet.

I like my coffee strong with 3tsp coffee and a splash of milk making it a vague shade off black so count 1point for the milk in my coffee (I only generally have 1). I'm trying to limit the sweet/treat stuff to once per day. Veg is a big issue, I'm a fussy Sod who only likes salad veg and as it's near pay day by bank balance limits using as much pepper etc as I want - shame really as I love peppers etc. Must be thrifty!

Snacking is a thing for me too. I usually have an alpen bar and banana for breakfast. Low in points but leaves me starving by 10am and I'm looking for something to have, therefore using more points. Whereas this morning I had a bacon roll (rare treat) but it filled me and also as I know I've already treated myself today, I don't feel the need to again. I'm not saying I'm going to have a bacon roll every day (!) But maybe having something carby each morning - toast - might help to keep full. And only snacking on fruit in break, 'boring' stuff so it's not eating for the sake of it.

Also, burning question. On the app it says weights of carbs Vs points. I weigh both when uncooked and rice always looks tiny! However 70g tagiatelle feels a lot for the points - it's not much off a portion to what is usually have. Should I be weighing it when it's cooked instead?

Ditsy79 · 22/01/2019 14:06

I always weigh dry pasta and rice etc.
I have started making an omelette for breakfast in the morning sometimes as a change to cereal. Eggs seem to keep me fuller for a bit longer, and they have no points which is a bonus.

JITSOG · 22/01/2019 14:10

Madein1995 2.5lbs is a very respectable amount of weight loss. Don’t feel dispondent. Flowers

I am constantly thinking about food but have set myself some rules and they’re helping me. One is “no snacking” between meals. The other is “wait for hunger pains” before eating. The third is “eat slowly” so that I can know when I feel full and then stop eating, even if my plate is not empty.

A typical day for me is:
Breakfast - 3 egg omelette with mushrooms and onion (no cheese)
Lunch - fruit (I often wait til 3pm as I don’t get hunger pains til then)
Dinner - veg chilli and rice
Drinks- tea/coffee and one hot choc when the kids are on bed!

I am having most of my weeklies on Sat night as my big treat.

This works for me as it helps me to focus.

ChipsAreLife · 22/01/2019 14:52

made 2.5 lbs is excellent! Like you say starving and big losses aren't long term, This is.

In terms of your food as long as you're in points that's the main thing. But for me a lot of that food you've listed doesn't keep me full and that's when I binge when I'm hungry.

A typical day for me is

Breakfast: boiled eggs

Lunch: either a Ww meal or ice just had Quorn pieces, with chopped toms, small grated cheese portion and seasoned. Was pretty filling!

Dinner: always something like curry or a Ww recipe but I swap the pasta, rice and have veg

Snacks: chicken, crisp bread and halo top ice cream.

I also try do a 30 min work out every day to help accelerate it.

Ive lost 4lbs in two weeks which I'm pleased about as have had two cheat weekends but try save as many points for them as poss. Got no socialising this weekend so can be good Halo

Madein1995 · 22/01/2019 22:31

Dog has been dragged on a mile and a half walk today. She loved it and I got my steps in, win win!

The veg is actually a fair point. I'm quite good at chucking it onto my evening meal but not so good during the rest of the day. JIT that's a really good idea, not eating til you feel hunger pangs. It means I'm eating for a reason then, not just boredom etc. Snacking is my concern - I start off with good intentions and it just spirals. I can make the snacks healthier though. Replacing my usual snacks tomorrow with crudités and dip, will have a WW protein bar on standby too. But will try and stick to fruit to snack on.

I'm amazed at how ww works tbf. I mean I know you track everything and do really have to structure your day - eg if you're having burger and chips for tea you've probably not got enough points for a big breakfast and lunch, or if you have a baguette there's none left for chocolate - but nothing is truly banned. SW said that, but really the syn system was so rigid it didn't work out like that. On ww it seems all about moderation. The other day, I had a wrap from Tesco, a bag of pop chips and a drink and still had enough points left for my tea!! On SW it'd have been 20plus points so is have gone bugger it, as it was I was just healthier the rest of the day

I like the exercise bit too and the online coaches

JITSOG · 23/01/2019 12:21

Sounds like a very positive day Madein1995 Smile

I didn’t have time for breakfast today. Just sat down to lunch now with a healthy bowl of soup and some toasted mini pitta. I’ve managed to not eat all my dailies so far and some have been added to my weeklies. I’m planning a choc fest on Sat night Grin

stevie69 · 23/01/2019 13:36

Weighed in last night at 9st 1lb, which is 4.5lbs down on three weeks ago. I probably need to strip off half a stone or so of fat and then add some muscle. That's the plan, anyway Blush

Good luck everyone for this week. Let's keep the thread going.

Madein1995 · 23/01/2019 16:05

stevie that's fab, well done 😀

Have tried more today. Breakfast was eggs( fried in frylight) on two small slices of bread with 2tsp reduced fat butter. This was 6am,not hungry til 12 when had crudités and dip. Just had lunch now - leftover stir fry, yogurt and honey, ww protein bar. Tea will be chilli, cheese, soured cream. No more snacks bar fruit.

Planning on fajitas tomorrow. Work is absolutely doing my head in - claimants calling me names, saying it's my fault another benefit had stopped (which I have no control over at all!), That I am persecuting them. People listing their ailments in explicit details including how they cannot wipe themselves. Claimants refusing to speak to me as I am a woman, and Welsh. People screaming that they know where I live ☹️ all management do is bollock us for taking after call. Roll on my new job!

Ditsy79 · 23/01/2019 17:58

I have had a great day food-wise but just tried to make the mushroom and mozzarella calzone off the ww app and nearly threw the whole lot out the window in temper. How the hell is beaten egg ever going to stick a wrap together?!?! Rant over.
Just waiting for them to cook now, they'd better be good after all the faffing around.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 23/01/2019 18:08

I am quite back on track now. I have struggled to get back to it after all the Christmas treats and lots of meals out. I'd put on 3lb over Christmas, then lost it, then put on 2lb. I think weigh in tomorrow is going to shop I've lost it again. I've stuck to chicken salad for lunch with fruit and a cereal bar, and salmon salad for dinner. And I've managed to avoid treats and had a supper of porridge instead.

twinkledag · 23/01/2019 22:36

Can I join in?

I've meal planned for tomorrow. So far got eggs and chicken salad! Has anyone got any nice dinner recommendations?

JITSOG · 24/01/2019 11:41

Welcome twinkledag Smile

The plan is very flexible, so really you can have whatever you’d like for dinner and just tot up the points. This week I’ve had 5% burgers, skinny sausages, curry and veg chilli.

Have you got some cooking spray? It is great to use instead of oil and it’s free!!

I find the key to success is thinking ahead of what you’d like to eat that day and planning the points every morning.

Good luck Smile

Ditsy79 · 24/01/2019 13:46

Well, after the trauma of making them last night, the mushroom & mozzarella calzones were really nice.
Started today with an omelette which kept hunger away until late morning. Just had a nice salad with cottage cheese, and got Greek yogurt to eat later if I get peckish.
My problem is that if I don't plan, i eat too many points in the day and have none left at teatime!

Madein1995 · 24/01/2019 19:53

Hi twinkle I second a pp. I am still a newbie, but I'm enjoying thinking about what I fancy the evening before or even the morning of, rather than relentlessly planning. This week I've had ham and mushroom creamy tagiatelle, stir fry, chilli with sour cream and cheese, fajitas, and tomorrow is leftover stir fry, making turkey burgers and fries sat 😀

FiveShelties · 24/01/2019 20:46

Hi twinkledag - I just have a look down the recipes on the app ad see what takes my fancy. I try to plan the following days dinner the previous day so I can get the meat/ckn out of the freezer if in there.

ChipsAreLife · 24/01/2019 22:41

Welcome Twinkle! Agree the recipes on all are great!

I've had a good week but had a shit dinner tonight as tired and fed up lol. Have found myself not drinking wine as it's empty points, and so feeling good about that!

cricketmum84 · 26/01/2019 08:04

Another 2lbs off for me so 1 stone 4lbs so far. And I wore 2 dresses for work this week that I couldn't get over my stomach last time I tried them on!

I ❤️ weightwatchers!

FromDespairToHere · 26/01/2019 15:28

Another 2lbs for me too, 6lbs in total.

I got myself in a bit of a funk yesterday when I realised that with a healthy 1-2lb /week loss it'll take me over 2 years to lose the 10st I want to lose in total, but then I gave my head a wobble: it's taken me 43 years to get this fat so I'm not going to be slim overnight!

I've just made a lovely soup. Celery and fennel boiled in veg stock till soft then whizzed up with a stick blender and a bit of cornflour to thicken. Gorgeous!

lardass88 · 26/01/2019 15:29

Stayed the same AGAIN this week 😩

twinkledag · 26/01/2019 23:09

Thanks everyone! I've used my weeklies over the weekend but I guess that's what they are there for?

ChipsAreLife · 27/01/2019 10:20

Well down despair and --twinkle I've also lost two this week so am six down and reached my first mini goal which is to be pre Christmas weight.

My next mini goal is to get 10.10 which is my healthy BMI. Which is only 7lbs away so hoping to be there by end of feb.

twinkle it's so frustrating, but stick with it. Things I find that help me loss is eating in an eight hour period I.e 12-8. I try do that in the week, eat fewer carbs and try to do some exercise. Eating in my points alone doesn't seem to be enough for me as I really struggle to lose weight. Hang on in there it will come off!

I am working my way through the recipes on the app, find them really good. I've bought a couple of WW ready meals but they tend to be around 10 points which I think is a lot for what they are!

ChipsAreLife · 27/01/2019 10:21

Sorry not twinkle I meant lard for second bit!
