First off, I know there's a dedicated area in big/slim/whatever but I'm after traffic as it's a bit quiet in the WW section. Second, I know that 5:2 and low carb are popular on MN but neither of them suit me whereas I've lost weight with WW in the fairly distant past and regained due to unrelated issues which I'll leave out for now. I'm sure there are plenty of opinions on why it doesn't work but for me it does.

Just wondering if anyone is thinking of signing up and would like a support thread over on the WW board. I have at least 4st to lose and would appreciate it. I can't go to meetings as they don't fit in with work, so will be doing it online (half price on the website at the moment and Top Cashback give a few quid back). Anyone in?

Well done Emo!! I've successfully completed day 2! My sister has asked me to go out for a meal with her on Saturday so I've been trawling the restaurants menu for WW friendly options and I'm saving my 35 weeklies for it too. Just hope it doesn't derail me Confused

Is anyone else disabled? I've very limited mobility so exercise is almost impossible for me (one of the reasons I got to this weight, used to run marathons!!)

Hi Lillygirl81 - I am disabled (after accident) with a lot to loose - I used to run but cannot do that anymore. I was using a warm water rehab pool for exercise but it closed before Christmas (cutbacks) so I am trying to find other alternatives.

Hi. Hope it is OK if I join in too.

I have lost count how many times I have rejoined WW over the years. I first joined around 1989/1990 before points existed and at that time lost just over 5st, and was 4/5lbs away from goal, so never quite made it. I rejoined about 6 months ago after tons of failed attempts and am currently up to 66lbs loss so far. I am 5'10" and still have a huge amount to lose, so am on this for the long term. But focusing on small goals at a time is key for me, rather than looking at the big picture. I bought myself an activity tracker back in August, so am making an effort to walk and get steps in.

For me, I am going to the weekly meetings, as I find them invaluable with helping keep me focussed and to know I am not alone. If I can just add one comment, which is said time and time again by a WW leader of 15+years experience, you should use all your daily and weekly points.

As my daily points are reducing, as I lose more and more, I am cutting back on some of my snacking and switching to lower point alternatives. I am now sometimes finding that I do have to snack later, just to use up my remaining points. I suppose better planning on my part, would ensure I am having them earlier in the day/with my meals, but I do struggle to find the time to be that organised!

Over the years I have tried so many different diets and always come back to WW as I know it is the only one that works for me, if I follow it. But keeping motivated enough for long enough has been my downfall n the past.

The smart points take into account sugar content. lots of things on the old system suddenly doubled in points when smart points came in. So although 52 points sounds a lot compared to 26, it isn't, particularly if that includes extra for you for breastfeeding. I would say, if you are hungry, it could be because you are not using all the points your body needs. Don't be afraid to use them! Having said that, I know I feel hungry when I am really tired, and also when I am actually thirsty as I haven't always drunk enough water. I usually finding drinking something helps, or if I am still hungry with no points left, I will have a zero point snack. Well done to you for managing to get on track! I am only now coping with it and my son is 6!

startwig1982 · 06/01/2017 18:18

I started this week. I was doing really well and feeling slimmer already. I had between 13-15 points left over each day so I thought I'd have a chow mein stir fry last night (11 points) and tonight I had lamb and mash(12 points). Now I'm feeling bloated and heavy!!

I'm 5 ft 1 and 11 stone, or I was on Sunday. Hoping for less at my weigh in!!

JenniferYellowHat1980 · 06/01/2017 21:08

Brilliant loss Emo, well done.

So this morning I went to a 6:30 spinning class! However I've used all my weeklies and 14 of my fitpoints so far and I'm on day 5. I think it's going ok. I'm still expecting a good loss this week. No booze which is unheard of but I am pretty hungry!

I am trying to work out how many points to allow for my dinner from the Thai takeaway? It is a little smaller than a traditional take-away as it comes in a divided plastic plate (like a ready meal plate) with about 2/3 stir fried beef and 1/3 rice.
The dish looked a bit like the one in the picture below - there was less of the beef stir fry in my portion - it had beef, leeks, onions and peppers stirfried in a little oil, stock and spices (nothing deep fried/no coconut milk), So how many points would you experienced WWers allow?

Well done Emo.

I'm very very hungry tonight.

Emochild · 06/01/2017 22:02

I am within points today but I've had a shocking day -by 8pm if only had 9 PST due to oversleeping then an emergency at work that I had to stay late to deal with

Ended up going good shopping late and hungry -so had a big McDonald's

Now I'm feeling guilty

poorpaws · 06/01/2017 23:14

Emo you've got plenty of time to make up for it before your next weighin. We are all going to have little blips like that, don't feel guilty just draw a line under it (as they say) and start again tomorrow. âž–

empirerecordsrocked · 06/01/2017 23:23

A lot Lunde sorry! Maybe 15-20? There will be a ton of oil and if it was Ina coconut sauce even more.

Ofalltheginjoints · 07/01/2017 02:31

Hi, do you mind if I join in?

Having done WW before I figure it's about time I get back to it properly after several false starts last year! I'm debating rejoining actual meetings but my closest ones aren't that convenient and I'm currently using the Ultimate Food Value diary app which is using Propoints, is Propoints still used?

As of Monday I was 12 stone 13lbs and I'm 5"3 so hoping to lose 2 stone 13lbs ideally by May when I go on holiday, that would be a 2lb a week weight loss needed every week to get there in time, though that still wouldn't get me to WW gold level but would just be in the overweight section of BMI (as opposed to obese at the moment 😳)

I'm also disabled and use either crutches or a wheelchair to get around depending on pain but I do do para-rowing as my disability enables me to use my top half of my body without too many issues, not sure how compatable high intensity training and ww would be but I can't imagine it would be that bad, maybe need to eat the exercise points when back to full training.

I have picked a terrible week to start diagnosed with Mumps on Monday and released from hospital today following complications, not really eating or drinking much due to the pain but trying to still point things as I go, DP thinks I'm crazy for doing that but I thought it would get me into the pattern of tracking everything?

Had half a sandwich yesterday in hospital (8pp) and then about 1:30am today my DP ordered take away chicken and I had some chips not a full portion but counted them on today's tracker as a medium McDonald's fries of 9pp, daily allowance is 27

Sorry that's really long!

sez49 · 07/01/2017 09:15

Hi Ofalltheginjoints

WW are using SmartPoints and have been for just over a year now.

namechangedtoday15 · 07/01/2017 12:41

Went to a class and weigh in this morning. Had weighed myself at Boots on Wednesday (at lunch time so had had breakfast) and obviously got weighed on WW scales today (without having eaten yet today) - 3lbs lower Smile. I know some of that will be different clothes / different time of day etc but am ignoring that pleased and its given me motivation to really give this my best shot!

Also tried one of the recipes from Skinny Kitchen Secrets last night (Paprika kitchen) which was really lovely, didn't taste like "diet" food at all. Off to a friends for a dinner party this evening (so no control over what I'll be eating) just hoping its not too calorific!

namechangedtoday15 · 07/01/2017 12:42

Paprika pork!!! Doh!

thehoundschicken · 07/01/2017 15:02

How is everyone handling the weekend? I'm finding it hard had a work girls night in last night where we all get pizza and chippy chips between 8 of us so tried to stick to two slices and only had a handful of chips. Bought low alcohol wine which I had a bottle of but did have an unplanned prosecco to. My weeklies cover it but I have a babysitter tonight and we were going to go for a meal and cinema but no way will my points cover that and wine so trying to plan what to do 😳

Ofalltheginjoints · 07/01/2017 15:27

Oh thanks Sez

From having a look online it seems PP and SP are quite similar (in that you gave a weekly allowance and can also earn exercise points) obviously the points for specific items will have changed, how does SP compare to the PP plan?

Considering biting the bullet and signing up today whilst it's still 50% off but don't be able to attend in person for a couple of weeks so maybe a waste?

JenniferYellowHat1980 · 07/01/2017 16:25

I'm out for dinner tonight. I'm not bothering to count as it'd be guesswork and antisocial to keep whipping the app out. It's sushi mainly so will be pretty healthy. Will be super strict and also go to the gym tomorrow. Weigh in on Monday!

I have finally joined weight watchers yesterday and am ready to go so am hoping I can join this thread for some positivity and support!! Grin

50sRetroChick · 07/01/2017 19:25

I need this thread....just signed up again after a five year absence. I have my wedding in August AND I MUST FIT INTO MY DRESS!!!! I bought it one size bigger and by the time it arrived last week it still didnt bloody fit.

poorpaws · 07/01/2017 22:21

First weigh-in tomorrow and I'm feeling quite nervous. I'm hoping to lose around 4 pounds in the first week. Does anyone else feel anxious just before weigh-in or am I being ridiculous?

sez49 · 08/01/2017 11:09

Ofalltheginjoints - yes they are similar as you say in that you get a daily allowance, weekly allowance and can earn activity points. Not sure if the activity points kicked in immediately on the PP plan? Certainly the points changed when SmartPoints came in, with lots of foods doubling in points, because of the sugar content. The points value of some foods are considerably different now, but then your daily points total sounds much higher than under the old plan.

Although WW don't automatically allow you to use your activity points, there is an option on your account to allow you to use them. I personally don't use mine, but it is handy having them available as a back up just in case! I know lots of people who do use them. Some activity points get deducted before you are then allocated any for use, assuming you have chnaged your settings. My leader thought the first three activity points got deducted, but maybe as I have so much to lose, I found the app was deducting the first six activity points from my allowance, so it is maybe somewhere between three to six activity points that get deducted each day?

I don't know if you did jump on board with the 50% off? Looks like they have 30% off now? I would if it were me, I would go for it now. Once I have made the decision to start, I need to just get on with it. You can get use the online tools and get a head start before you are able to make it back to meetings. I first signed up to monthly pass about 10 years ago. Apart from through pregnancy, I was still paying each month for so many years and that was all through the times that I wasn't attending. I dread to imagine how much money I have wasted over the last 10 years!

sez49 · 08/01/2017 11:28

poorpaws - good luck with first weigh in. I always find the first few weeks a bit anxious! Smile. From my experience, if you have stuck with the plan, you should be fine.

Whilst I have stuck with the plan, weighed and measured, and tracked everything I have had one week where I stayed the same and another week where I gained 1lb. Those weeks were particularly frustrating and disheartening as I hadn't done anything wrong or different to previous weeks. Just my body messing me around. But I stuck with it and I lost the following weeks.

Definitely worth focusing on the overall picture over a month rather than every week. Personally I don't try to set myself any expectations now, on what I hope to lose. If I have a good loss, but it is less than I hoped I would lose, I personally find that a bit demotivating too. I have definitely changed my mindset this time around, and I think that is helping.

Ofalltheginjoints · 08/01/2017 11:41

Hi Sez, thanks for the information, with PP the activity points were immediate. It like yourself I tried not to use them. I found a way to upgrade the app I was using to what I think is SmartPoints but bit unsure about it.

I did make the decision to sign up to weight watchers as may as well do it properly! However it wouldn't complete my registration and I tried three times so I've emailed weight watchers directly to see if they can help, as you say the online bit will be helpful whilst I can't go to meetings for the next couple of weeks and then get into it fully no point doing it if I'm not going to be doing it properly

sez49 · 08/01/2017 13:27

thehoundschicken - sounds like you did well to stay within points yesterday and no doubt you were better than you might have previously been. Planning ahead definitely helps for nights out. If you know which restaurant you are going to/can choose the restaurant have a look at menu before hand to work out which are the healthier options. Maybe fill up a bit before you go out with some low/zero pointed foods so you are not too hungry when you go for your meal? When I went for a pizza before Christmas, I planned ahead so I knew how many SPs I would be using and also had a zero point veg soup before, so I would be less tempted with something extra when I was out. Definitely helped me. Enjoy yyourself itself this eve. Why not get some walking in too, to earn some FitPoints to give you a bit more flexibility?
