First off, I know there's a dedicated area in big/slim/whatever but I'm after traffic as it's a bit quiet in the WW section. Second, I know that 5:2 and low carb are popular on MN but neither of them suit me whereas I've lost weight with WW in the fairly distant past and regained due to unrelated issues which I'll leave out for now. I'm sure there are plenty of opinions on why it doesn't work but for me it does.

Just wondering if anyone is thinking of signing up and would like a support thread over on the WW board. I have at least 4st to lose and would appreciate it. I can't go to meetings as they don't fit in with work, so will be doing it online (half price on the website at the moment and Top Cashback give a few quid back). Anyone in?

Hello I don't seem to be getting the hang of this. I have muddled through the first week and lost a pound. I don't really understand the points or the tech.

BG2015 · 10/05/2017 16:09

I lost a pound first week too. I'm enjoying it. The Connect bit is great - very inspirational. Hoping to lose another pound when I weigh in on Friday. The less you have to lose the slower it comes off

sez49 · 10/05/2017 18:33

I've been away, so nit been on here for a bit. Welcome to the newbies. I managed to lose whilst I was away, so very happy with that. Had some treats but chose them carefully and limited the number of treats. Did lots of walking too, so that probably helped.

I have been on plan for 10 months now. Mostly pointing, but did slip in a few no count days whilst away. Just made it easier. But I think I now have the portion sizes under control. Also have been trying to eat more no count based foods, but pointing to get me in the swing of it, which helped me too.

For anyone who is struggling or doesn't understand, what is it you are finding difficult? If you are feeling hungry, are you eating some fruit to help fill you up and bulking your meals with veg to make them more filling? Also make sure you drink lots of water. When smart points first came out, I struggled with it, as I liked my sweet treats and they doubled in points from the old pro points. I have now got used to it and am looking at other ways to get my sweet fix. I also started walking and have increased that bit by bit. When I started, I did very little exercise for the first month or so.

I eat all my daily and weekly points. For a long time I didn't really touch my fitpoints, maybe dip in with using one or two at the end of the week. But I liked that they were there as a buffer. when I got to around 6st loss I had a bit of a plateau. Ended up having a bad day and used all my weeklies and some fitpoints. Had a great loss that week. Have continued to use some of my fitpoints every week since then and the weight is still coming off. 7st 8lbs now.

I think WW say you can use your fitpoints, but you don't have to and for some people, they struggle to lose if they eat them all. There are some who exercise a lot, they seem to get better results using fitpoints. Everyone is different and you will need to find what works best for you. .

I also forgot to add, I have had several weeks where I have gained or stayed the same. Despite staying on plan the whole time, so sometimes the scales just don't reflect what we have done. It usually sorts itself out within a week or two, so stick with it. Those, for me, have been the harder weeks to stay motivated.

Want2bSupermum · 10/05/2017 23:36

sez love your post. I'm quite a few weeks in now and this last week struggled because I was on my own this weekend with 3DC and was so stressed out leaving my old job. I started my new job on Monday and no joke I was freaking out. I'm an emotional eater and found myself stuffing my face at any opportunity. It was so hard to control myself. I got a record of 79 points walking last week. So far this week I've not even hit 5 points since Sunday. It's really hard to get the exercise in when DH is away. He comes back tomorrow and I'm going to take myself on a very long walk when I finish work.

Want2bSupermum · 10/05/2017 23:40

Another thing, despite my emotional eating last week at weigh in I managed to lose 0.8lb from last week. I'm down 13.8lb, which I'm thrilled about. As long as I am doing the right things I'm happy and I've gone back to my therapist for help with emotional eating. My goal for this week is to try and get 8 hours of sleep in a night. Not easy but I've been in bed by 11 every night. This is a huge accomplishment for me as I've got three monkeys who I finish getting down by 8:30pm and then I have to do all the cleaning, laundry, dishes, lunches and admin. It's a lot doing it on my own.

sez49 · 11/05/2017 06:34

Supermum, well done on the loss despite struggling. You must be making healthier choices or being more in control despite the emotional eating. It is hard when your routine is out of sink too.

Theworldisfullofidiots · 11/05/2017 10:53

It sounds like you are all doing really well. I'll update tomorrow!

fudgesmummy · 12/05/2017 14:32

Hi all. I would love to join you. I signed up to weight watchers on line last Sunday. I have had success in the past with WW, 14 years ago I lost 3 stone in 6 months, but was still very over weight (and then broke my ankle and put it all back on again in 2 months) I have put on more and more weight and I am now 6 stone heavier than I was then Sad I now have at least 8 stone to loose which just seems an impossible task. For now I am aiming for a stone. I have stayed on plan all week so far which I am very pleased about. We are entertaining Saturday and Sunday so a bit nervous about that. I have saved all but 3 of my weekly points for tomorrow night so hopefully all will be ok. I don't drink so that's not a problem!

Want2bSupermum · 12/05/2017 14:55

I'm plugging along trying to stick to my daily points. My exercise has been minimal this week. The scale this morning said I have lost 0.4lb but it never agrees to the WE scale. I love having a Monday meeting. It really holds me accountable.

Want2bSupermum · 12/05/2017 14:58

fudge spoke too soon.

Welcome! They talk here a lot about having goals which are not weight related. So one of my goals has been to stay within my points range for the week. Another goal has been to fit in 10k steps a day as tracked on my phone. The weight is a by product of the change in lifestyle.

It's been a huge change in mindset. I've changed jobs to reduce my hours. Now my goal is to get my exercise in during the week outside of my regular routine.

sez49 · 12/05/2017 15:31

fudge - I lost just over 5 stone many, many years ago, but never quite made it to goal. Was about 5lbs away. This time when I joined I had over 12st to lose. I have been focusing on small goals, one at a time. I also decided I would just keep going for as long as I could and see how much I could lose. I am 7.5st lighter now and determined to keep going. But taking it half a stone at a time. Accepting that this needs to be a lifestyle change, is a big shift for me too. I feel so much better already and never want to go back to how I have been for the last 20+ years. Well done on holding back most of your weeklies - planning ahead is key for me and being able to use weeklies for an occasion/meal out is definitely helping too.

Supermum, I love the idea of non weight related goals too!

Theworldisfullofidiots · 12/05/2017 16:22

I am a lb lighter so 7lbs in total. V pleased as I've done v little exercise as it's been a manically busy week. My goal next week is to be organised on Tuesday when I'm out literally from dawn to dusk.

BG2015 · 12/05/2017 17:00

I've lost 1.8lb this week. So 2.8lb in total. I had a drink last weekend and used half of my weeklies.

I only have a stone to lose so I know it will be slower. Exercised everyday varying from a run to a 30 minute walk.

sez49 · 12/05/2017 20:02

Well done on the losses!

Theworldisfullofidiots · 12/05/2017 20:38

I'm having a Eurovision party tomorrow, so going to use my weeklies for that and eat no point foods during the day.

Want2bSupermum · 12/05/2017 22:38

Yes. That's what they want you to learn. The only thing is to watch the fruit. I have lots of cut up veg ready to go.

Theworldisfullofidiots · 19/05/2017 13:11

1 lb off thus week. 8lb in total. Slow and steady (also totm).

BG2015 · 19/05/2017 16:19

0.8lb off this week - pretty gutted with that. I know it's a loss but I'm totally dedicated to the plan stick to 30sp, dip into my weeklies occasionally, spin classes and loads of evening walks. Drink lots of water and try and not eat the same things.

I've lost 3.6lb in 3 weeks. We're off to London next weekend and I know I could gain that weight plus more if I aren't careful in 2 days. It's so frustrating. I only want to lose a stone (now 10.4lb) so I know it's going to be slow, but I was hoping I might have lost 6lb by now.

Ahh well. I've eaten 3 biscuits at work, all pointed and now feel stupid as it's such a waste.

Onwards....

Want2bSupermum · 19/05/2017 16:38

I lost 0.2lb on Monday. I am ok with weeks where I have minimal loss. I've lost almost 14lbs so a week with a tiny decrease or staying the same is ok.

It also has helped me stay motivated. Last week I ate all my points and my weeklies. I didn't hit my exercise goal. If I want to lose this weight I have to try and stick to my daily points as much as possible, which is what I've done this week.

As for biscuits, I actually find chocolate is better bang for your points. Each tiny biscuit is so many points.

BG2015 · 19/05/2017 17:51

Want2b it's so had isn't it. My OH is totally onboard with what I'm doing and I keep telling him how many points are in stuff - he's amazed. We used to eat a massive slab of chocolate, crisps, pop corn over a weekend.

Now we're eating pea snaps and meringue nests with fruit. Typically he's weighed himself this morning and has lost 3lb.

Depressing

sez49 · 19/05/2017 18:02

BG2015 - try eating all your weeklies for a couple of weeks and see what happens. I have seen time and time again people losing more when they eat more, which sounds crazy I know, but all the points are there to be eaten. I found, when I had lost nothing in total after a four week, when I started eating more by using my fitpoints, the weigh started moving again. Our cycles can also affect losses (or in my case it is usually a gain once every four weeks). Stay focused on what happens over a month rather than what the scales say each week. Save your weekly points for your weekend in London and if you get lots of walking in too, then you could use some fitpoints and still be on plan. Stick with it and stay positive. It is great OH is on board too. I couldn't have lost 7.5st so far without support from DH. He lost about 4st too and lost it much more quickly than me in the beginning but it has slowed right down for him now he only has a few pounds to go.

BG2015 · 19/05/2017 20:28

I actually only had 6 sp left this week (out of 35sp) so was pretty good. If I lose a 1lb next week then that's a an average of 1.15lb a week which is a good loss I suppose.

I'm not giving up anyway my jeans are feeling better

sez49 · 19/05/2017 20:50

BG2015 - That's not too bad then! Yes it is a good loss. Whilst it may feel slow, over time it will add up. Great your jeans are feeling better! We need to look for other positives, rather than just relying on the scale results.

Anyone measure themselves? I didn't when I started. That is maybe one thing I should have done. I did take photos from the start, well it was two weeks in (front, back and sides). I looked so miserable as I hated having my picture taken! I have tried to take pictures every month since then, although missed last month as I was away. It took a while, but I could start to see a difference when comparing the recent pics to the first ones. That was another motivator for me. I also have to remind myself that when I started I could hardly walk far without getting out of breath and then I also walked quite slowly. Now I am not only walking much faster and farther, I am also enjoying walking. Never thought I would enjoy it!

Want2bSupermum · 19/05/2017 21:43

I measure myself using my ergo. I've had to adjust the waist three times and according to that I've lost 2.5".
