Does anyone want to join me?! Smile I need to lose 3 stone hopefully a stone and but in time for March if I can!

I'm already a member of ww online I have the app and just getting used to the new smart points system! Like a refresh think it will be good to do something new again!

Bought a fit bit with xmas money and had it two days love it already! It updates activity points onto the ww app though I won't be eating these.

Hopefully if anyone joins me we can motivate each other

Wow Betty that's brilliant!

Went to the carvery tonight and I thought I did a good damage limitation.

I said no to:
Starter
Alcohol
Roast potatoes
Yorkshire pudding
Sausage
Stuffing

I chose:
Diet Coke
Turkey
Lots of veg
Gravy

I did have dessert (I said I would). I chose a large meringue with a creamy middle topped with daim bars, dark, light and white chocolate bits in top and single cream. Too many points im sure but I left some of the very sweet mousse type middle bit.

I also ate very little during the day and just had homemade parsnip soup for lunch.

I wish I could resist desserts but it seems impossible for me.

I don't want to eat out for a while, it's so much easier to stay on track at home. How does anyone else cope?

CharleyDavidson · 26/01/2016 22:27

I don't think your dailies will ever drop below 30.

Your weeklies go down, in chunks of 7, at certain points when you lose weight. I started off on 42, but when I lost my weight last week, I dropped down to 35. It seems like a lot, but it's one point per day that you lose if you were to space the out over the week.

I am struggling still trying to have a bit of chocolate or something leftover from Christmas. What did work for me last time I lost enough to get to goal was to go cold turkey on the chocolate etc. I would have a bit of cereal or porridge in the evening if I fancied something a little bit sweet. I would save something more decadent to use up any points I had leftover after weigh in night.

I need to go back to that!

poorpaws · 26/01/2016 22:44

I think you are right Charley I need to go cold turkey on anything sweet but I find it very difficult. I am an addict! In the past I've given up alcohol quite easily, smoking but my sugar addiction is really bad.

dottyaboutstripes · 26/01/2016 22:51

I think the lowest points are 30 dailies with 28 weeklies afaik. That what I'm on and I'm finding it tough!
No, you can't do WW when pregnant though if you are at goal when you get pregnant you can go for free after baby is born until s/he is 6 months old.
Well I kind of disappeared but shouldn't have as I've eaten for Britain over the last week or so Confused I went to my meeting today but had miraculously lost 2.5lbs which can only be due to 2 good weeks previously which didn't show on the scales. I've eaten half my weeklies already on day 1 of my week so I'm clearly not in control at all!!! I'm half a pound under goal though so won't despair and will TRACK this week - last week I just gave up.
Hope everyone else is finding more willpower than me and making better choices!

MrsJorahMormont · 26/01/2016 23:39

Thanks for the answers. dotty that's what I was afraid of - I remember in the olden days of WW dropping down to 18 points a day which was a bloody nightmare, you could hardly eat anything! The only difference then was you were able to cash in exercise points as food. I quite miss the little cardboard points calculators, the smart calculators are a faff with so many categories to fill in but I suppose after a while you just know the points of regular food stuffs.

Well done paws, you turned down all the best greediest bits of the carvery :o

bettybyebye · 27/01/2016 14:32

Paws that dessert you described has just had me drooling!
I'm finding a cup of options hot chocolate after dinner is enough to satisfy my sweet cravings and is only 2sp. I'm planning on giving chocolate up for lent when it starts as I think I'll find it easier telling myself I can't have it because I've given it up rather than because it's too high in points!

Totally agree how much harder it is if you are eating out. We're off to stay with my ILs this weekend and I think I'll find it tough - MIL is a bit of a feeder!

MrsJorahMormont · 27/01/2016 14:49

Yep, I got caught out by eating out at lunch. I went to a café I go to often, got a nice toastie, worked out the points BUT the new young girl on the counter was massively generous with the filling AND slathered the whole thing with butter which they don't normally do. I didn't have the heart to send it back (I didn't ask for no butter, they don't normally put any on IYSWIM) so I ate it but points will now be much tighter today Confused

elfofftheshelf · 27/01/2016 15:53

I too try to have a cup of Options hot chocolate late afternoon if I'm craving something sweet.

Had my second weigh in today and 2 pounds off. So 3 in total in 2 weeks. I'm coming to accept that it isn't going to drop off in the 5 and 6's that I hear from some of the others in the group, but I have less to lose too. I've got a big weekend coming up so am trying to save my 35 weeklies for that and in the meantime I'll keep going with the homemade veg and lentil soup (2 SPs per portion). Going to give the Spinach and Turkey pasta bake recipe that keeps popping up on the WW website tonight.

dottyaboutstripes · 27/01/2016 16:09

I am really struggling but don't quite know why. I am eating so much fruit that it surely can't be good but I'm so hungry!
Whoever mentioned old style points when you got 18, strangely I coped really well with that! I miss the card calculators too, now you need the app which of course you have to pay for Hmm, that really grates as I've been a loyal gold member for donkeys years.

dottyaboutstripes · 27/01/2016 16:10

Forgot in my rant to say I agree re:options hot Choc, it's a good thing to have in the cupboard (or hidden if your kids are like mine and would use the whole lot in one afternoon!

MrsJorahMormont · 27/01/2016 17:35

Elf, that is really good weight loss. Well done. More importantly it is a very healthy and maintainable weight loss. Please don't compare yourself to others in the class.

My one reservation with slimming clubs is where there is too much focus on weekly weight loss. When I did SW there was a dissection in both the classes I regularly attended - every member was named. The atmosphere was supportive, no nastiness but I hated all the clapping for every lb lost and the 'let's talk about why you had a bad week' if you had gained. It used to really annoy me when there was hysterical clapping for the person who lost 5lbs in a week (often because they were 20+ stone to start with) and then a murmur of congratulations for the person who lost 0.5lbs. Different bodies, different lives, different time scales.

I liked it on Monday that our leader didn't go round the class. She gave the class loss (over 4 stone) and gave a few silver sevens but that was it. She also said in the newbies talk about the weight loss journey being a winding road very often rather than a straight line.

So I suppose the point of this rant is that the biggest downfall of slimming clubs is the emphasis on fast weight loss. It has taken me years to put on all this excess weight but having yo-yoed by nearly 3 stone due to dieting I'm beginning to understand that I just want to see a downward trend to my comfortable point and then stay there. That's it. No 5lb a week losses (unless it's water loss in the first week). Just being at a more healthy weight and eating really well and healthily in 6 months time.

In fact, I'm going to try and tie my idea of 'success' to how I feel and how well I am eating - how much good, nutritious food I have consumed at regular intervals - rather than what the scales say.

Miffytastic · 27/01/2016 17:48

Elf well done! 2 is great
MrsMormont yes I agree, I wonder if that's a deliberate move away from previous style of WW meetings - I remember when I first did it 15 years ago (!!!) there was a lot more clapping. I got a bit grumpy at the leader at my group banging on about breakfast, yes it's a good idea to fill up and have a decent one pm eg oats, but some people just aren't breakfast sorts and having done 16:8, I don't think there's anything wrong with holding off on it sometimes. the plan is flexible to accommodate all types of eating patterns and styles so why not let it?

justkeeponsmiling · 27/01/2016 20:49

Oh my god I could murder a cup of Options hot choc now! What a fab idea, I'll definitely get some tomorrow. I'm not very good at coming up with low-point snacks. I guess I should sit down and really think about what I could have and shop accordingly. I tend to just eat smaller, healthier main meals and some fruit in-between. I'm struggling tonight as I have 2 points left for today but I can't think of anything worth 2 points I fancy and have in the house Confused I'm hungry too so that doesn't help.
On a happier note I lost another 3lbs this week, despite cocktails last Friday night and the breakfast-buffet-binge of Saturday morning. So I'm really pleased with that.
I agree with everyone saying any weightloss is a good weightloss. This is a huge part of why I opted to do WW online and not go to meetings - I don't want to start comparing myself to others, I know it would make me feel like I'm competing somehow and after a couple of weeks just lose heart. The thought of being singled out to discuss my failure to lose weight in front of other people makes me want to run!
Paws I'm well impressed with your restraint, I think you can forgive yourself for the desert. After all, in order to stick with the plan long term you have to have a treat every now and again. Otherwise life would just become utterly miserable!
On that note MrsJorah that toastie sounds well worth it!

MrsJorahMormont · 27/01/2016 21:05

It was nice just (well done on your weight loss!) but it's annoying that it has left me really tight on points today Sad Think I'm going to have to break into some of my weeklies. It does show though how simple changes can have a huge impact. My projected toastie should have been 7-8 points, instead I ended up having to count it as 14-15 because it was dripping with butter or spread of some kind plus tonnes of filling. Those extra 7 points would have been enough for a nice piece of cheese on toast before bed! I'm hungry now though so going to have a cup of tea and use a couple of weekly points to have my cheese on toast if I'm still hungry in half an hour. One good thing about being a newbie and heavier than I should be - I still have 42 weekly points :o

poorpaws · 27/01/2016 22:28

I'm wondering how much exercise you all do. I've got dogs so I am out in all weathers but walk slowly with a stick due to ill health. I had a fitbit for Christmas and average 10 to 12,000 steps a day, most of which are walking my dogs. Today I had a tummy upset so didn't take them out which is very very rare and I was shocked by 5 o'clock that I'd only walked 723 steps. I put the dogs leads on and we went to the beach in the dark just so that I could eat this evening! 😇

So my question is just how much do you all move on an average day? I don't think I can manage many more steps without a coronary 😀 Or am I idle?

ChristmasEvePJs · 27/01/2016 22:51

Hi everyone, mind if I join you?
I joined WW this morning, the scales groaned and flashed up 15st 5.5lbs.

I am determined to take my time and stick to the plan. I would love to be able to bin my size 16/18 clothes and feel good!

SpecialLittleLady · 27/01/2016 23:08

Hi can I join in? I joined WW in December and have lost 11 lbs so far and need all the help I can get. I have to loose almost 1/2 my body weight so it's going to take a while!

dottyaboutstripes · 28/01/2016 09:11

Hello newbies! You can do it - you just have to get into the mindset that it won't happen overnight. It's hard work but worth it.
Paws, I have a Garmin thing like a Fitbit and I generally do about 11k steps easily on a weekday, mostly from walking the kids to and from school. On a lazy weekend day 5k seems average but if I'm busy say going to the shops (I don't drive), I can get over 20k. It's quite an eye opener though and I find it encourages me to move

ChristmasEvePJs · 28/01/2016 09:42

Thanks Dotty, I have decided to set mini targets of 5lbs. Everytime I get to another 5lbs £25 goes in my weekend away fund. If I reach my ideal weight I will have around £350 to treat myself to a few nights away to celebrate!

Miffytastic · 28/01/2016 12:06

So I'm a new fitbit owner as I think I said last week. Such an indulgence but I do like it. I'm trying for 10,000 steps a day but sometimes, like a weekend, that's tricky and I have to make the effort. I only manage 2500 on the school run, and usually only do it in the mornings so it's making me do more, particularly in my static evenings. Today however I've been for my first run of the year, and I got 8000 steps by 9.30am (though I don't know if they 'count' as proper steps?!)
I'm trying to increase my exercise. Recently I've only been doing zumba and walking and the odd night out dancing, but hoping to improve this with my 10k race aim O_O

Welcome PJs and Special :D

MrsJorahMormont · 28/01/2016 14:07

Welcome fellow newbies :) Christmas we are very close in weight - we can be buddies :o

Confusingly yesterday I thought I had fewer points left than I actually did so ended up having some cheese and tomato on toast at bedtime and still had a point spare at the end of the day. Today I have had:

  • a one egg omelette on toast with tomato and SW cheese (6)
  • Milk and 2 sugars in 2 coffees (4)
  • a banana (0)
  • M&S lunch a nice, filling bean salad thing (10) and a packet of count on us crisps (3)

23 is quite high for this early in the day Sad I think I'm going to have to break into the weeklies today to get me through dinner. 1 point seems quite high for a measly 16 cal spoon of sugar but I know they are trying to steer us away from the sweet stuff.

One question: does cooked fruit increase in points? On SW fruit was a free food but if you cooked it in any way, you had to syn it. We had baked apple last night with a tiny sprinkle of sugar and I just pointed the sugar.

MrsJorahMormont · 28/01/2016 14:09

PS: I am really impressed by how many steps you all take! On a bad day I can take very few Sad I'd like to get a Fitbit but which one is good? And how many steps equal points?

dottyaboutstripes · 28/01/2016 16:13

MrsJ, that's what weeklies are for though so don't feel guilty! Having said that, one day 1 of this week I used half my weeklies so I was cross with myself. If you have the app you can sync your Fitbit or whatever and it will give you fit points. It seems to give me quite a lot but I ignore it mostly! I have a garmin vivofit but it's a pain as it doesn't automatically sync, you have to do it yourself so for that reason I probably wouldn't recommend. Dh has a higher spec one which does but I didn't want to spend that much.
Today I've had Weetabix with skimmed milk, porridge made with half skimmed milk/half water, 2 bananas, and apple and a veg samosa, this was 14sp so I have 16 left. I'm planning to make chilli but not sure what to serve it with, maybe in a wrap with lots of salad. That would leave a few points for a treat, I have mini meringues and 0%fat yogurt

KinkyAfro · 28/01/2016 17:54

Hey, I don't do any exercise due to health issues, apart from a bit of walking. It's my 2nd WI tonight, after losing 6lbs last week, it's looking like 4 ish off tonight according to my scales. Got WI at 6.30.

The plan will work without any exercise, although it's obviously better if you can do a little

KinkyAfro · 28/01/2016 19:14

I was bang on, lost 4lbs this week Smile
