Blondes, that's great!!!! A big well done from me. You were so sure you wouldn't lose this week.

And now for my good news....I am in the Great South Run!!

I just trawled through our inbox (the email didn't go into my folder), dh had opened my email and on the 6th September when it was sent I obviously didn't check our shared inbox. so I've just redeemed the charity token, and had confirmation I'm in!!

Off running at 11am after sorting laundry Smile

Corrected from previous post (where I still had "on" rather than the "off")

prettybird · 24/09/2010 13:42

Aaaargh. :(

Just when things start to be improving :(

My mum had a nasty fall last night, cutting her chin badly on the bedside table. She needed a lot of stitches - obviously my dad is very upset.

However, what is more upsetting is my brother's attitude. He goes on about "this can't go on", that it must be the care that is at fault (even though they do a review after every fall, she now has pressure mats beside and at the end of her bed to warn them when she gets out of bed) and can't seem to accept that mum has a chronic degenerative disease and will fall. He harangues my dad and me and seems to think that he knows best. I asked him why he didn't go to any of the assessment/treatment meetings, which dad always tells us about (I haven't been to any either becaseu I have been away or becasue I have been confident that my dad - who is after all a former doctor - loves my mother and is doing his best to "do right by her"). He couldn't come up with an answer - but wouldn't accept my answer about why I didn't feel then need to go which was "becasue I trust dad". He then started to say "I've got the greatest of respect for dad but..." - but put the phone on me when I said, "Honestly, [bro] I don't see it".

He wants my dad to help "fix" the family - but dad has quite rightly been advised by his sister (strange that - family - yet [bro] complains that we are not strong enough on family) not to get involved in the antipathy between my brother and me. What bro (I can't bring myself to type db) can't seem to understand is that I don't need to be friends with him - I have my own family - my dh and ds - and my concern is for my dad (who does have a life ahead of him) and my mum (who doesn't) :(Angry

Sorry to offload on this thread but you guys know some of the background. Plus, I have recommended Mumsnet to my SIL, so she might "spot" me if I posted this in Relationships or AIBU.

GettinTrimmer · 24/09/2010 14:17

You don't need this aggro Pretty. Sad

By all means come and offload to us, we should have virtual sofa with wine and nibbles (low fat)! Well...we have just had weighing in this week.

Maybe someone independent from the family could speak to your bro? A doctor at the home to explain your mum is in good hands. He sounds like he has very fixed ideas in his head.

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 24/09/2010 14:23

Oh Pretty, I do feel for you. This is such a difficult phase in your life and for your family. Although it is very difficult, you seem to have come to terms with what is happening with your mum. Your brother clearly has not and until he accepts that she has a degenerative illness and is not going to get better, he isn't going to cope so well - hence the blame, frustration and anger You can't buy a cure, but as you so rightly say, you can do right by her, that's what matters now. It is terribly sad and I found it the hardest thing when it was us.

Plus he sounds a plonker. Is he your little brother? is he a dad with his own family?

Support your dad as best you can, but you certainly are thinking clearly here, he clearly is a prat.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 24/09/2010 14:26
prettybird · 24/09/2010 14:31

Thanks GT. And at least it was after the weigh-in, so I have time to recover the damage from any comfort eating I might indulge in Wink

You're right - we don't need the hassle. Especially my dad :(

Ny dad has suggested that to him a number of times. But db knows better Hmm

The thing that really upsets me is that this is a sreally stressful time for all of us. SOme of that is unavoidable - we are having to go through a greving process while mum is still alive - and will no doubt have to through it again when she dies. :(

Bt db is making is sooooo much more difficult. Dad is just about at breaking point with grief about my mum (it will be their Golden Wedding Anniversary next month, they did everything together) and db is only adding to the stress. Angry And the fact that db and I can hardly bear to be in the same room as each other must be breaking his heart. :(

laughalot · 24/09/2010 15:59

Prettybird I am so sorry you are going through this but we are hear to listen. It must be very difficult but your mum and dad are very lucky to have a daughter like you and im sure your dad must be very proud of you xxx

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/09/2010 16:46

((hugs)) pretty bird,im so sorry you are having this shit to deal with,it must be so hard, so feel free to rant on here xx

well done on 1 lb loss btw

gt - fab you have found the email, moral of story NEVER allow dh to touch your email Grin

laugalot, well done on your 2 lbloss

i did a free creche today at a Macmillan coffee morning and gawd some of the children didn't stop crying the whole time they were there, it was hard work, stressful and obv i as for charity i didnt get paid for it!!!

prettybird · 24/09/2010 20:05

Thanks Ladies :) She didn't actually look too bad whne I visited this afternoon - the stitching had been done very neatly (even if it did make it look like she had a beard becasue of all the threads along her chin line Grin)

I may leave it a wee while and then namechange and post (with some details changed, just in case) on Relationships for advice. Don't think I am strong enough to post it on AIBU - even though I don't think IABU - but it would be good to let off steam. If you "see" me, be nice! :)

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/09/2010 13:31

afternoon

i went to the gym and kicked arse, literally, new girl didnt move -whoops Grin

not to sure what i fancy for lunch, possibly rivitta and humous and then possibly a take away tonight :)

prettybird · 25/09/2010 14:00

We're having people round to dinner tonight.

Black pudding, caramelised apple and grilled goats cheese stack with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar to start, noisettes of lamb with a port and bramble sauce, parsnip and carrot cakes and buttered new potatoes for main and milk tart (a South African speciality: a sort of light custard tart with almond essence and cinnamon) with almond and cinnamon ice cream (an experimental variation of my vanilla condensed milk ice cream) to finish. Wines to match each course.

Thnak goodness weigh-in isn't until next Friday! Grin

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/09/2010 14:02

OMG PRETTYBIRD

im soooooo Envy at your menu

GettinTrimmer · 25/09/2010 15:55

I expect you're busy cooking as I post this Pretty! Do you find people ask you back to theirs for meals? I have done dinner parties but nobody asks us back Sad

Hope it's helpful if you post in relationships, I lurk on there from time to time and so many people who've been through similar experiences with advice, sometimes with a different perspective that's helpful.

I went for a long run - was about an hour, maybe about 5 miles. Then went back to pick dd up from a party and had BBQ food, tortilla chips, mini donuts and chocolate cake. Oops! Blush For the rest of the week I will make an effort.

If nobody minds, I will set up a website and link it on here - if anybody doesn't mind sponsoring me for my race that would be great!

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/09/2010 16:25

Lovely nosh Pretty! I couldn't cook like that if I tried Sad

Good luck with your run GT.. Glad you got on it. Def link your website!

It's DH's birthday tomorrow, so we have just made him a 'cake' well actually it is a refrigerator rocky road type thing

It has:-
chocolate
butter
maltesers
digestives
mini marshmallows
minstrels...

....so not at all fattening! I'm just going to look at it. It is a bit over the top but he loooves all that stuff. We are going out for lunch and have booked a table at a Thai restaurant. Big yum.Glad we are not weighing in until Friday! LOL

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/09/2010 16:34

see its good thing no weighing after the weekend that ive started Grin

yes trimmer i will sponsor you and def no calories in that cake :)

Murtette · 25/09/2010 22:04

We had sausage & mash for supper. I was on low fat sausages, DP was on "proper" ones and he put the Low fat ones on the Left of the oven but then got to tray out to check on them and turned it around as he put it back but can't remember if he'd already turned it around before that or not! Who knows whether I had low fat or full fat sausages?! Both of us thought that ours tasted normal.

I can't believe I didn't come on here yesterday to see how Bebe's weigh in had gone. Congrats bebe! Can you believe that you have lost almost a third of your body weight this year? You are amazing and an inspiration to the rest of us. I hope you're not going to go and find some new skinny friends and abandon us Grin.

Pretty - I def think YANBU. I'm more than happy to come to crash your dinner party if you want to rant to someone in real life!

Well done to Blondes, Laughalot, Pretty (and anyone I've missed) on your losses.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/09/2010 13:31

if you/dh couldnt tell the diff murtette then you can always cook low fat ones :)

had a chinky last night but was within my points

just off to a friends baby wetting day, tho am driving to save points

RatherBeOnThePiste · 26/09/2010 18:22

How come weekends feel so bloomin short?

Thai lunch was divine. DC are very adventurous in what they eat partly from all the traveling they've been lucky enough to do, although there was one point I thought I was going to have to get a fire extinguisher cos DS was so red from chili overload!! It was totally yum though. DH also loved his cake!

Back to sensible eating now. Although it is funny because I am getting lots more positive comments about how I look. This is weird because since July I have either gained or maintained not dramatically lost. Maybe the weight is shifting about?!

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/09/2010 07:21

maybe you are toning piste? measure yourself

so no dread today then, or is there still some who weigh on a monday? :)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 27/09/2010 07:49

I love Blondes. Officially. Yes, that's it - I'm Toning!

I wish I had measured when we started all this but I couldn't find a tape measure and sort of never persued it. It would be really interesting.

Not sure on the Monday weighers. I am feeling a bit blimp like this morning so am glad it's not a weigh in.

Murtette · 27/09/2010 08:56

I still weigh in today. I need the incentive to keep me away from cake etc over the weekend! I lost another 2lbs. I have to say, I don't feel as though I'm doing anything that different to what I was before so am wondering if the pregnancy weight is finally "falling off" as everyone assured me I would if I kept bf? My boobs are almost back to their old size and my waist is reappearing - yippee!

Piste - have you bought new clothes which are in a slinkier size? If so, they're probably more flattering to your new super slinky body and so its more noticeable to other people. Enjoy the compliments! After all of the hard work you've put in, you should savour them.

Blondes - we'll def be doing lf sausages going forward. We've still got some left from Sat so its sausage casserole for us tonight.

I'm away for a week from tomorrow so won't be posting. Only off to my parents but the internet there is soooooo slow that I don't bother using it.
