It is only 20 minutes a session, so doable for even most the busy people. It is pretty demanding however (be prepared!), so it genuinely will get results as long as you do it properly everyday (as the programme states) and don't stuff yourself with chip and beer.

justaminute · 25/06/2010 18:29

msboogie prepare to be bombarded with posts raving about Jillian - we love her in a love hate kind of way here

I have a couple of Davina DVD which have similar moves to the Shred but they just don't keep me motivated to keep going the way the Shred does. For me, the DVD is the perfect length just when you are ready to quit you move onto a different set of exercises or are completely finished . Knowing that I am so close to the end and the feeling of sheer exhaustion achievement keep me going. I actually enjoy the abs work as it is a chance to lie down!

Losing a few inches and feeling / looking more toned in one month is a great motivator too.

msboogie · 25/06/2010 18:40

thanks guys, its seems to be a big thing in here

I have a very low attention span when it comes to exercise...

Hi everyone, I'm joing this thread as I've ordered the dvd and am waiting for it to arrive.

I'm really excited. I have been working out for a few months 2-3 times per week at the gym and classes. And have been to one of those weighing machines a few times to caculate my body fax index, and feel that it is really going to motivate me doing this dvd as will be able to see my fat turning into muscle.

My weight at the moment is 9.6 and i am 5.2feet. I am more interested in toning then loosing weight, but idealy would like to loose those 6 lbs.

My real problem area is my belly and my hips, is everyone finding that the dvd is working well on those areas?

Any beginner tips?

I've heard others mention weights, do you need different size weights? I normally ise light weights in the gym, what are others starting at?

Also heard some mention a yoga mat, nything else?

Naetha · 25/06/2010 20:40

To start with I just used my front room floor (Yoga mats are for girls - also you don't really have time to lay it out/put it away if you're short on space!) and tins of beans. I got some 2kg weights from Tesco, and they are heavy, but good. I might recommend getting 1.5gk weights if you can.

It's great for belly and hips - well, thighs certainly, and by the end of the 30 days, you should have lost that 6lbs unless you've been pigging out .

If you can, do it every day - that seems to get the best results for people.

newstart2010 · 25/06/2010 20:50

thanks for the tips.

i have just bought fab metobiliser tablets and started using them and cut down on food, as was eating alot of treats and find that if i eat normally i also eat alot of choc and cakes and overeat.

so i am saying i;m on a diet but really just eating as normal people do.

does anyone still go to gym as well as doing the dvd? or would you not do the dvd on gym days?

Naetha · 25/06/2010 21:21

What fat metaboliser are you using? I take CLA 1000 as part of a protein/meal replacement shake every morning, and had good results.

It's an intensive workout, but I reckon you may well get better results from 20 minutes shredding than an hour at the gym.

DilysPrice · 25/06/2010 21:46

Well I've done it! and whilst I'm definitely feeling it, I am still not dead and am capable of climbing upstairs to use the computer, so two kids and no car is clearly not a completely inadequate substitute for exercise.

Baked beans tins aren't really cutting it though - I'll see if the sports shop sale can provide cheap weights, and perhaps wear trainers next time as my knees took a bit of a pounding.

Day 6 WO 1 (2nd time) complete. Worked harder tonight. Finding it hard in the heat but kept going.
I don't have a mat but floor is carpeted.
My weights are 2.3kg
If i use weights for cardio bits i use 1.1 kg which are a bit light but can't manage the other ones yet!

newstart2010 · 25/06/2010 22:59

naetha - i'm using something from holland and barratt this one

i think these tablets do supress my appetite, and have not had any weird side affacts at the moment, and they are all natural ingriedients.

I really wanted a protien shake, is yours a supressant? alot of protien shakes are high in cals, i'm just going to look at yours now.

i'm so looking forward to it ladies...

LostGirl · 26/06/2010 06:21

Maryqueenofchocs the idea is that you are in a good push up position, ie your body being in a straight line as though you were on the floor but you are doing them at about a 45 degree angle. Put your hands on the back of the sofa or a table )or anything that is not going to fall over!) and then keeping your hands in line with your shoulders walk your feet backwards until your body is in a straight line. If you have enough space a great way to do it is on your stairs. Keep your feet on the floor and then put your hands about 5/6 steps up, once you find that too easy then go down a step and so on. This way you are gradually transferring more weight onto your arms whereas trying to go from doing push ups on your knees to push ups on your feet involves a much greater change in weight all of a sudden.

Maryqueenofchocs · 26/06/2010 07:59

Lostgirl that is genius! Am about to do day 2, altho dh away so 20mnth old and 7yr old are going to have to join in...this could be interesting

Squidmission · 26/06/2010 10:06

I've not been shredding for a week
I had a headache for 4 days and have been a bit lethargic and run down.
I'm trying to get back to it.

Well done to all you carrying on in this heat...

JustBeachy · 26/06/2010 12:17

I bought the DVD today! Going to start on Monday (I was going to start today but don't want to be in pain tomorrow as i'm potentially carrying 5yo DD half way round race for life )

So Monday it is. Or tomorrow if DD manages the race on her own!

Going to weigh/measure tomorrow morn...ghastly!

Maryqueenofchocs · 26/06/2010 16:37

lostgirl it worked! ta very muchly....

It was ridiculously hot doing it this morning, my ds thought I was having a cardiac.

notyummy · 26/06/2010 20:20

Dh and I did it together this PM! Levels 1 and 2 back to back, him with 5 kg weights , me with 3kg. We both had to go for lower weights though on the squat with v raise! Hopefully will mitigate some of the damage the BBQ we had this PM will have done! It was ostrich burgers though - low fat- and gin and slimline tonic.

Naetha · 26/06/2010 20:39

Wow notyummy - I'm impressed - 1 and 2 back to back with big weights! I'd be dead!

I forgot I was meant to do level 3 on Friday, and did level 2 again by accident . No shredding over the weekend, so will start level 3 on Monday.

newstart - this is the shake I use: monstersupplements.com/store/p/3969/1/PhD-Nutrition-Diet-Whey-:-1kg.html although you can get it on ebay for £18 incl free P&P.

I make one scoop (a half serving) up with 350ml skimmed milk, and that keeps me going nicely. I really like it - it keeps me going well, and isn't too ghastly to drink. Because it's a diet one as well, it has pretty low cals (it's about 210 cals when made up with skimmed milk), but has enough protein. I'd recommend it to anyone as a meal replacement shake. One pack contains 20 servings of 2 scoops, but because I halve it, I get 40 servings out of mine, so it's not too expensive.

I'm thinking of using 2.5kg weights tonight, so wish me luck!!
Also, I've done loads of level 2, so should probably think of moving on to level 3?
WWYD notyummy

notyummy · 27/06/2010 18:55

If you are moving up a level blossoming, I would wait and see how you find it before upping the weight!

Skimummy · 27/06/2010 20:03

I did level 2 quite early this morning thankfully - far too hot to do it now.

I am impressed with the weights everyone uses. I use 2kg but sometimes switch to 1kg if I am feeling a bit weak (which can be often...).

I am finding switching between levels each day quite...painful? By which I mean my muscles tend to ache more than when I was doing the same level for 10 days. I guess that can't be a bad thing?!

Well I saw your post too late notyummy! I feel I could pass out!!
However I prefer level 3 to level 2, (just can't do those jumps and skaters in circuit 2 level 2).
Also, the last abs section I've been doing already in my Blast off belly fat DVD!!
