Is the 30 day shred worth it then? Is it better than my expensive gym membership that I never use?

dinkystinky · 09/06/2010 09:28

30 day shred and gym membership are both worth it Dastardly - the key is to get into the habit of exercising and to find an exercise regime you enjoy (so you'll keep it up). I do circuits, PT, pilates, body pump and body combat each week because I really enjoy them - I have to force myself to go running once or twice a week.

DastardlyandSmugly · 09/06/2010 10:14

I used to love Pilates and Body Pump when I used to go. I need to find time during the day as once I'm home I never have the motivation.

Ooops sorry for double post.

dinkystinky · 09/06/2010 10:41

Dastardly - I go at lunchbreaks from work - or first thing in the morning before work. Generally dont have motivation when I get home (apart from evening PT session that I have to do as have booked and paid for it in advance) or the time to do stuff at the weekends when the kids are around.

BudaisintheZONE · 09/06/2010 11:29

Last night's meal out was fine on the food front - had goat's cheese and rocket salad - 4 tiny balls of goat's cheese and loads of rocket. Then for main I had ceasar salad with prawns - 3 small shrimp on a skewer.

4 bottles of champagne between 3 of us!!!

Came home and had 4 cream crackers with butter and 3 mini magnums!!!!!!

Slightly fragile this morning so couldn't face walk in the heat. Breakfast was slice of rye bread with peanut butter and a banana. Then had a little lie down!

Lunch is a bowl of tuna salad.

DastardlyandSmugly · 09/06/2010 12:20

It's always the booze that gets me Buda.

DukesOfTripHazard · 09/06/2010 12:25

Buda your post meal consumption made me snigger.

I've just ordered f-ing Shred. Can't believe I'm looking forward to it

dinkystinky · 09/06/2010 12:36

Lol at your meal out - and in - last night Buda. Booze has a lot to answer for. And the champagne mouth you're suffering today wont be helping.

Loving that so many people are turning to the shred on the thread - dont hate me when you're doing it though...

dinkystinky · 09/06/2010 12:52

That said as I got approx 3 hours sleep last night (in total) due to a nipper with an ear infection I'm not PTing tonight and am currently sat here trying to psych myself up to go to the gym for a run (though not entirely sure where will find the energy for it...)

FairhairedandFrustrated · 09/06/2010 13:17

Slimming World calls their plan 'food optimising' - you never have to go hungry, which is where some people get confused as you expect to be hungry on a 'diet' lol

It's not all about the food you eat though, it's about changing behaviour, getting regular support and getting active in your own life.

Food optimising takes into account individual needs and preferences & no foods are banned and there are lots that are unrestricted (free foods).

Free foods are those which are low energy density which keep you fuller for longer - your 2 (or 4) depending on plan* healthy extras will give you good overall balance of nutrients.

(there's also a 'flexible syn' allowance to allow for days when you have important meals etc & want to go a bit over your syns, but going flexible means you stay in control

  • 3 plans (Green) (original) (extra easy) It's extra easy SW are pushing most at the monent, and Aitch, it's fantastic, since I've followed it I've had bigger weight losses.

The green choice promotes complex carbs and protein rich foods ruch as pasta, rice, potatoes, pulses and grains which can be eaten as 'free' food on a green day, which dairy, bread, cereal, lean meat can be Healthy Extra choices.

On an original day you can enjoy fish, leans meats, poultry etc as free foods, using your healthy extras for pasta, potatoes etc...

Plus on each day you have from 5 - 15 'syns' to use on things such as gravy, sauces etc...

Green & Original (also known as red) days you can have 2 HE 'A' choices - dairy products, and 2 HE 'B' products, bread, cereal etc... it's your own choice, you're never told what to eat!!

Extra Easy is really a combination of both - you can eat whatever is free on either day as free on an EE day - your meat, carbs etc are free, though you will only have 1 HEA & 1 HEB - you really can manage with just one as you have carte blanche on free foods!

Aitch - on an EE day, fill 1/3 of your plate with superfree foods, (ones that are free on green & original plans) as much as you like of the free food, and then add your healthy extras.

Just keep the general ruls in mind, if you're full up - stop eating

You should try & get to a class near you for a proper explanation, sometimes it's easier speaking to someone face to face.

Hope this helps!!

DastardlyandSmugly · 09/06/2010 13:48

What I found with EE is that it's easy to make things that you would normally eat as long as you use free substitutes for stuff you need syns for.

For example, I've substitute butter in sauces for a concentrated veg stock mix, white wine is substituted with lemon juice and cream with quark.

What I found especially useful is the food diaries which do make you think about what you're putting in your mouth. I also found the groups really helpful and my tail of coincided with DH being away a lot and me being unable to attend group.

Lunch today was an Itsu salmon salad - very yummy. Haven't managed to cut out the Diet Coke but I have a plan to cut down gradually over a few days so I don't get that horrific caffeine hangover.

Finding this thread really helpful though - thanks for welcoming me.

JackBauerIsGoneForever · 09/06/2010 16:29

afternoon all, just done day 3 consecutive shred (did it last week but had to stop over weekend) legs hurt, still pelvic floor 'issues'...

tomorrow my day off so will do my run and then shred again, did it last week, set me up for the day then!

christ knows what to have for tea, forgot to get anything out of the freezer this moring so the others are having pasta with pesto and sausages
I have some eggs, bit of smoked salmon but no salad stuff, few veg. any ideas?

BudaisintheZONE · 09/06/2010 16:43

Hi all. Just noticed my typo earlier - I only had 2 mini magnums not 3!!!! Although that doesn't really make it better does it!

Jack - scrambled eggs with smoked salmon or an ommlette?

Am I the only person who just does not get the SW thing? I just don't understand it and it seems SO complicated!

Supposed to be going to garden party at British Ambassador's residence for Queen's birthday but can't face it. Have cancelled babysitter. Been at school all afternoon manning a uniform open day. Just had some oatcakes and philly and am about to have a green tea.

cornsilkcottagecheese · 09/06/2010 16:44

just had 5 oatcakes (got sent them 'cos I won that spa break) and now I feel SICK!

JackBauerIsGoneForever · 09/06/2010 16:46

omelette! genius!

Feta or cheddar?

You are turning down a party at the ambassador's? Impressive!

cornsilk, the MN spa break? But I wanted that for me and my mum

cornsilkcottagecheese · 09/06/2010 16:48

Sorry Jack!

DastardlyandSmugly · 09/06/2010 16:52

SW world seems complicated but it's really not as long as you have the book in front of you.

I had the salmon salad for dinner last night so going for the dahl and sweet potato tonight - yummy.

BudaisintheZONE · 09/06/2010 16:54

I prefer feta in my omelettes.

I know I should go really as my friend put me on the invite list (I AM Irish!) but it started at 5 and I just couldn't face rushing back from school, getting ready and rushing there all hot and sweaty to stand around drinking. And I know I would eat and drink all wrong things.

So am having chilli for dinner with a huge dollop of yoghurt. Yum.

Themasterandmargaritas · 09/06/2010 17:23

Buda, now you have mentioned it I can also mention that I went on Friday to ours . God Bless Her.

I waved today (from my car in a HUGE traffic jam) at US VP Joe Biden. Afterwards I thought perhaps that was a stupid thing to do in a terrorist melting pot like Nairobi, I was lucky not to have had my arm shot off.

Today I have had, cornflakes and 1 piece of toast, ham and cuc sandwhich and two hob nobs.

Supper will be chicken curry and dahl.

Themasterandmargaritas · 09/06/2010 17:25

Corny, you won a spa break?

I never win anything

JackBauerIsGoneForever · 09/06/2010 18:26

Oh we do have such a posh thread

tmam, my father was once playing real tennis against Prince Edward in a charity match and my mum wanted ot get down the side of the court, only there was a big bloke standing there, she put her hands on his waist to shift him and he whipped round and pulled the gun she had just unintentionally grabbed out and pointed it at her.
I was behind her and burst into tears (was about 10) and my mum just said 'right, no more booze for you then' and walked off.

Themasterandmargaritas · 09/06/2010 18:34

hahahaha I love it.

isthatporridgeinyourhair · 09/06/2010 20:22

If they had Ferrero at the Ambassador's receptions I'd be there like a shot.

Not a good day here, feeling fat and unmotivated. Will lurk and pick up good vibes from all you losers.
