Finding it hard to stay zoned - am bored with porridge etc

YoginiPinkBikini · 08/06/2010 09:20

What's happened to us all?

We all need a good slapping - apart from Tostaky who needs a hug and a cup of tea. Wow when my lot were 2 months old I didn't even contemplate losing weight - and I put on a lot each time. Well done you but don't fret too much.

I got bored with porridge too so have been making smoothies with say a banana, natural yogurt, a handful of oats, some flaxseeds and a cup of ice. I just vary the fruit a bit. I probably have less this way than a bowl of porridge and it's delicious (I also made the scrummiest chocolate icecream yesterday but I'll haze over that)

Spagetti sounds good Cheese

YoginiPinkBikini · 08/06/2010 09:27

Oh and I have been well and truly thrown into the zone now after the two friendly local characters winos who sit at the bus stop shouted over to me "oy you're never pregnant again are you?

There was me thinking I looked quite nice in my white, fairly fitted shirt and leggings with fitflops. Very summery and understated I had thought. Obviously not. Wonder how many others thought it too but weren't drunk rude enough to say?

YoginiPinkBikini · 08/06/2010 09:29

Flip flops not fit flops!

Where did that slip of tongue come from?

Aitch · 08/06/2010 10:12

i say no to any sort of diet until the mother is at least six months post-partum. there is no point in hating your body, it's just a symptom of pregnancy, like your ds. please stop with the self-loathing...

and have lost a pound and a bit of post-weekend horror. by strict protein-only though, so won't be able to keep it up, obv.

dinkystinky · 08/06/2010 10:17

Morning all. I ate an entire tub of ben & Jerry's frozen yoghurt last night - I win the biffing award for yesterday (an enormous tub of lard I have to hoick around all day). But back in the zone today and... oh here it comes... the dinky motivational speech for the strugglers and stragglers (including myself)...

Tostaky - I agree with aitch: you are a mum, you have 2 small kids, you need to fuel your body (particularly as you're sleep deprived and its still recovering from the birth) and love it for the amazing thing its done in giving birth to your two gorgeous funny and beautiful kids. Yes, its carrying around some extra weight at the moment - but that will shift. I do NOT want you starving yourself or hating your body - that way eating disorders lie, you wont have the strength to deal with 2 kids (and believe me, you need to be strong ) and its not good for your kids to see their mum so miserable and with a bad relationship developing with food. I want you to think about what you like about your body - strong legs that let you run, great bfing boobs, nice eyes, nice smile - and make the most of those lovely features. You said you're signed up for pushy mothers when you get back - speak to the instructor at your first session about healthy ways of exercising at 2 months (fwiw, walking at that stage is the best exercise - running not good for pelvic floor and weights terrible with the relaxin in your system) and join WW online so you can get your extra points for bfing, enjoy your food and eat a wide range of food - but stay within points and lose weight safely and steadily. You will be back at your pre-pregnancy weight in time - but you need to give it time.

Cheese, Buda, Yogini et al - keep the faith ladies. You can do it - it is a case of mind over matter. Right, time for bootcamp:

  • 3 meals a day, snacks, fruit or small yoghurt only for pudding
  • Snacks - fruit only (no fruit bars/liquorice etc.)
  • You can have 1 TREAT a day - and it has to be a tiny one. Like one fererro rocher, one block of chocolate, one skinny latte - this is your treat to yourself for zoning it. Choose your treat wisely and enjoy it. If you step out the zone, you dont get to have a treat tomorrow.
  • drink lots of water (at least 2 litres a day) - the colder the water the better in weight loss terms.
  • do some exercise every day. Challenge your body and shake up your regime - if you walk, try a class instead or a dvd; if you run, try a swim; if you gym it, try pilates etc.

Do all the above and am sure you will see some results.

dinkystinky · 08/06/2010 10:18

Cornie - werent you eating porridge twice a day? No wonder you're bored of it. You tried it with berries/different flavoured yoghurts mixed in? Today I'm having skinny latte and fruit salad for breakfast (post circuit training) but normally have porridge made with water and yoghurt mixed in (as protein and carbs fill me right up).

Aitch · 08/06/2010 10:24

dinks. that's quite a fall from grace, well done.

Aitch · 08/06/2010 10:25

(once again dinky makes everyone feel better about themselves, only this time it's through the medium of Ben&Jerrys)

DukesOfTripHazard · 08/06/2010 10:30

Was yog not ice cream though, only a few flies on Dinky

Aitch · 08/06/2010 10:36

yes i did spot that too.. but as a low carber the sugar would have me on the ceiling.

dinkystinky · 08/06/2010 10:46

I thank you I thank you

Could try and argue it was medicinal as had shocker settling DS2 again and anticipating a bad night ahead, but really it was just mindless eating. Need to do mindful eating now. Have logged all the points on my WW onine thing and have to somehow save 25 points by Friday. Will be living on fruit, soup and water - with the occasional coffee for my treat - for the rest of this week methinks...

DastardlyandSmugly · 08/06/2010 10:49

Does anyone mind if I join this thread?

I have this six week block that seems to derail any attempts I make to lose the baby weight. Do really well for six weeks then slip back in and just don't seem to be able to remotivate.

Lost a stone during last push and haven't put it all back on but am heading that way. Have a holiday in France in August and I really would like to not be ashamed of the pics like last year

Am using the slimming world principles as that worked for me last time but I also need to kick off exercising.

DukesOfTripHazard · 08/06/2010 10:56

Hello Dastardly. Is it a six week plateau? I had that for weeks and got over it to drop another half stone. Get stuck in here and we'll shout talk you through it this time.

Aitch · 08/06/2010 11:06

i feel like i'm on a six week plateau, losing and gaining the same sodding two pounds...

dinkystinky · 08/06/2010 11:07

Welcome Dastardly. How old is your nipper? I find that DS2 is very handy at derailing my attempts to lose the baby weight, with his sleep depriving ways. I am also a plateau queen but slow and steady will win the day....

I would really recommend the shred dvd for getting you to lose inches rather than weight for your holiday - worked a treat for Porridge on this thread.

Aitch · 08/06/2010 11:12

link to the stupid shred vid, then.

BariatricObama · 08/06/2010 11:16

aitch, i feel your pain. i have had guests for over a week adn the hospitality adn stress eating means i am not losing and probably putting on. am totally fecked off, and it is raining!

but i will get back on track, oh yes indeedy

Themasterandmargaritas · 08/06/2010 11:20

What is this shred thing you all talk of? I keep seeing a giant green monster....

Dinks, I am impressed with the fall off the wagon.

We all need a tiny fall from time to time.

Bastard scales in the gym though, they need a good kicking. They claim I'm back up a couple of kilos. It's all muscle really.

I did a 10k run today in my fastest ever time. But am knacked and need chocolate now.

DastardlyandSmugly · 08/06/2010 11:21

No not a plateau - I just seem to lose motivation and start 'treating myself' which spirals into doing it all the time and then find it really hard to motivate myself back into dieting again.

So this is the really shaming thing - DD is 2 in August and I've been carrying this extra weight all that time. TBH I haven't really gotten myself back since I had DS (now 4) so I really feel the need to do something about it but I need to get over this hurdle somehow.

Aitch · 08/06/2010 11:23

oh hahahahahahahaha at your shame! my dd2 is two in august as well and i only just got round to doing something about it in march. give yourself a break. no shame here.

DastardlyandSmugly · 08/06/2010 11:27

Aitch that has made me feel loads better actually . It feels like all my friends just ping back to normal and I'm the one still walking round 2 sizes too big. And I hate having massive norks.

dinkystinky · 08/06/2010 11:29

Wow at your run Master! Bet you'll be a couple of kilos down next time you weigh yourself. And I fell so hard off the wagon I bounced straight back onto it

The shred is the 30 day shred by the Ossum Jillian Michaels. Jack is doing it and there are hundreds of posters on the Shred thread somewhere else on MN. Is 3 20 min work outs - designed to be done each day for a 30 day period. I do plenty of other exercise so I do the workouts (doing wo 2 at the moment) a couple of times a week in the evening - good interval training and PHA. Dont like that it doesnt really talk you through good technique v much but the routines are good for all over work out. You can get it for a fiver on amazon or play.

jenduff · 08/06/2010 11:33

Aitch and dastardly my youngest is quite a bit 4 years older than yours

Well and truly back in the zone with a day of protein but unfortunately this will no doubt result in some tummy troubles constipation

Aitch · 08/06/2010 11:38

my norks have suffered terribly with this dieting lark... ... look at it this way, at least when you start losing again you've got bigger tits to start off with, so you might be left with some at the end. all your pals are in wonderbras and chicken fillets.
