gherkinwithapurplemerkin · 16/05/2010 10:59

Ooh mamag that's a bit ana. (though know what you mean). Don't pass it on willya, squits enough for me.

NomDePlume · 16/05/2010 11:17

lol, I know what you mean mamag. Bugs are shite but at least the upside is a suppressed appetite [ana]

Food today is/will be

4 slices oatbran (heart healthy) toast with scaping of benecol & scraping of lemon curd . Cup of tea (splash of semi milk no sugar) .

Plain fillet steak with salad and a couple of new pots

No booze, cake, crisps, choc or biscuits.

In my defence, I know that I've biffed on toast bigstyle this morning but I ate it at 11am so won't be having any lunch and dinner is pretty good. Plus I've done exercise, so I don't feel too guilty.

CheeeseOnToast · 16/05/2010 11:32

Sore head this morning. Went to bed on an argument, me telling DP I feel far down on his list of priorities. Didn't go down too well, as he'd just had some bad news from a friend and hadn't told me about it yet. So I looked like a selfish cow. Oops. Only just made up, now he's off for the day. Again. AGH.

Felt very good for my abstinence yesterday, the only snacks I had were a handful of grapes. (weetabix for brek, salado for lunch, home made lamb curry about 10pm at DP was home so late - no rice for me). I was 9st2 this morning, that was after my cup of tea so hoping in reality it was less than that.

Today was/will be:

Weetabix (2)
Cup of tea
Salad for lunch
Out for drinks in the afternoon so will try and stick to vod and soda
Then dinner, DP's not in so will do something small. Not sure yet, need to have a rummage.

Question peeps - how long can hard boiled eggs be kept in the fridge, and ok to eat?

cyb · 16/05/2010 11:52

choc brioche (100 cals before you all kick off)

POWER yak WALK

lunch trout in herb butter, new pots for them green beans pour moi

cyb · 16/05/2010 11:53

bobbiewickham · 16/05/2010 12:08

Massive hangover this morning. Serves me right. Biffed four slices of white toast and am better now.

Lol at mamag's puke excitement. That's how I felt.

Am 11st 7 1/2 this morning, so that's another pound and a half off.

cyb · 16/05/2010 12:11

bobbiewickham · 16/05/2010 12:16

It was heaven.

Slathered in butter, all melty and dripping.

Nom nom nom.

BettySuarez · 16/05/2010 12:51

Can someone explain (to a complete dieting novice) why carbs are so bad?

Are they higher in calories or is it because they interact with other food in a certain way.

It's just that I eat a lot of carbs so really need to know why I am cutting them out.

Is there a recommended daily carb limit.

Also, is porridge ok for breakfast? I LOVE porridge and will happily eat every morning if toast and cerals are out!

Cheer me dears

bobbiewickham · 16/05/2010 12:57

See, Betty, I don't get this carbs are bad thing.

Just after I had ds1 I did the Slimming World diet to lose my baby weight, and because I don't eat meat I did the green plan, which meant I could eat unlimited carbs (not bread, though).

I used to eat barrels, and I mean barrels, of pasta and potatoes.

The weight fell off me and it never went back on to the same extent - I've put about a stone on and off over the last twelve years, but who hasn't?

And my dses bring home healthy diet info from school that says a meal should be mainly carbs and veg, with a little bit of protein.

But other people say differently...maybe it depends on your metabolism?

bobbiewickham · 16/05/2010 12:58

Oh, and porridge is the best breakfast imo. Slice a banana into it and sprinkle on some cinnamon, and that can see me through until about 2pm.

FairhairedandFrustrated · 16/05/2010 13:02

I was 9st 1 on scales this morning, but Wednesday is my official weigh in day so am hoping for movement - I was 8st 13 last Wednesday & I can't have gained 2lb by what I've eaten!

Today:

Bruch: 2 rashers of bacon with all rind removed, 1 egg scrambled with skimmed milk and 2 grilled cherry tomatoes.

Dinner will be Irish Stew made from stewing steak & potatoes, carrots & onion...all free on an Extra Easy day at SW so hopefully all will be OK.

Have been eating loads of fruit and haven't had a... erm... I believe the term used here is a mamag? in days so have finally given in to the senakot or something & am hoping for a development in the next few hours!

cyb · 16/05/2010 13:55

Betty calories are calories no matter where they come from. But our bodies process carbs in a different way and some folk seem to find (me included ) that cutting them back stops the old middle paunching/gives me more energy/stops me farting!! TMI) .

There was an article in The Times yesterday that I linked to which said as much...but for me not eating white bread means I dont eat butter or peanut butter or any of the fatty calorific things I couldnt stop eating before, so it may be the lack of calories rather than lack of carbs which has helped .

I still eat pasta (albeit a much smaller portion) and I will still eat cereal. but they are not the main stay of my every meal like they once were

cyb · 16/05/2010 13:56

oh and kids do need loads of carbs to burn off

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 16/05/2010 14:43

Betty

Unrefined carbs like white bread, white pasta, and potatoes are absorbed faster by the body and therefore you feel hungry more quickly. They have the effect of making me quite bloaty too.

Unrefined carbs like brown pasta and brown bread are slower to be digested. I eat smaller portions of those now rather than the other carbs and that has made a huge difference to how I feel and how much weight I have lost. It's also sustainable.

BudaisintheZONE · 16/05/2010 14:48

I think some people can eat carbs as part of a normal balanced diet and others can't. The more carbs I eat the more I crave. Porridge doesn't fill me up the way it does most people. If I were to have Weetabix for breakfast I would be starving an hour later.

I think the WW/SW eating plans which deny nothing once you obey the rules can and do work really well for lots of people. But for me and others they don't work so well. I find they let me have too many carbs which leads me to crave more. Esp the empty calorie type.

Also the type of carbs is important. I am avoiding 'white' carbs. Bread, rice, pasta, potatoes. Anything made with flour or sugar.

I am eating that heavy German rye bread or granola or porridge or muesli. I am eating lots of fruit and veg. So I am eating carbs but not the highly processed ones.

I missed that article you linked to cyb - must find it.

gherkinwithapurplemerkin · 16/05/2010 15:00

Think I am going to go with the Boden cardi - my first ever adult buy from there. It is quite £££ but smart enough to wear as a work jacket in spring/autumn - and I love the colour (plus it suits Luton FC theme)

is it hideous?

BudaisintheZONE · 16/05/2010 15:05

Foudn it cyb - interesting. And what I have been trying to do.

gherkin - not keen on that one to be honest.

gherkinwithapurplemerkin · 16/05/2010 15:06

In orange, BTW.

Buda - really? Feck.

BudaisintheZONE · 16/05/2010 15:07

Do YOU like it?
Will you wear it?

If YOU like it ignore me!

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 16/05/2010 15:12

gherkers - not the kind of thing I'd buy tbh. Sorry. like orange tho.

gherkinwithapurplemerkin · 16/05/2010 15:17

Right. Back to drawing board then. Thing is, mahossive tits mean that thin knitwear just makes me look lumpy so I tend to be attracted to more structured stuff. It is a bit Nan-ish isn't it? Cack.

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 16/05/2010 15:58

I think it's those buttons that put me off a bit. And the bobbling. The shape is good - 3/4 length sleeves are v good - could be slightly more cropped I think.

Thisis bargainous and a good shape. I like the colour block but am not keen on the George quality - but then for £8 what do I expect!

What about this?

Love this. Not 3/4 sleeves though and wrong colour but fab for your knockers.
