God, that is the worst title. Apologies.

So, I'm trying to lose weight by eating sensibly. Thought that if we start a thread listing what we eat each day. it might make us more aware of intake... I tend to eat without thinking so I'm told this will help.

Breakfast: Oatibix bitesize with sultana and apple (they are very sugary )

Lunch: Noodles with onions and mushrooms.

Dinner: mixed salad, a ham sandwich.

Snacks: an apple and the tiny bit of cake my ds left on his plate...

yes but today would not be a good day to start with! maybe tomorrow??

BessieBoots · 12/05/2010 20:18

Okay, then I can try to cut out the cake for tomorrow's listing...

(not giving up the oatibix though...)

my day has not been good for food - involves bacon sarnies, lasagne and too uch mashed potato for tes.

your day looks a lot better than mine!

BessieBoots · 12/05/2010 20:29

Yeah, well, I'm really annoyed with myself because I lost about half a stone for an event that's happening in 3weeks, then felt smug and put it all back on! Grrrr.

hogshead · 12/05/2010 20:37

i went on holiday last week and over did the ale - when i got on the scales on monday i weighed only half a stone less than when i was 9 months pregnant

notasize10yetbutoneday · 13/05/2010 09:57

I'll join you. I'm low-carbing (well cutting out bread, pasta, rice and potatoes) at the moment and have gone down a dress size in a week! The difference off my tummy has been unbelievable and miraculously I don't feel hungry or tempted to snack.

B: rice krispies, milk
S: Apple
L: tune mayo and sweetcorn salad, fresh pineapple, 2 kiwi fruits
S: 2 mini babybels
D: Teriyaki salmon and stir fry veg.

Written down it doesn't look like much but I honestly haven't been hungry. Also I'm 5 foot and 9stone 7 to put it in context. Just need to lose the tummy fat!

whispywhisp · 13/05/2010 11:41

This is a good idea! I'm desperately trying to lose weight and I do think I tend to 'forget' what I eat in one day - I don't eat a huge amount but I do snack/grab food because I'm always on the go...

So today, so far has been....

Breakfast - 2 weetabix with fresh blueberries and a drop of skimmed milk

Lunch.....probably just fruit

Tea.....I was going to do pasta but wondering now if pasta should be one of 'those' foods I should cut out?...along with bread, potatoes, rice etc?...help!!

notasize10yetbutoneday · 13/05/2010 12:12

Whispy I don't want to come over all 'crazy Atkins devotee' or anyhting but I swear to goodness I just cannot beleive the difference in myself. DH can't beleive the difference in my energy levels and no more mood swings.

I'm sure millions of people can and do eat cabohydrates such as pasta etc in large quantities and feel absolutely fine, but it wasn't until I stopped that i realised how sluggish I had been filling and how they were making me gain and store weight around my tummy.

I was a bit worried about cooking for me and DH whilst doing it as he definitely doesn't need to lose weight but it's easy- he just has extra pasta, rice, noodles, whatever to what Im having.

You could try cutting them out for a week and see if it makes a difference for you?

Meals we've had so far have been:

-Omelette and salad (crusty bread for DH)

  • gammon and cauliflower cheese
  • full english breakfast (chips for DH)
  • chicken stuffed with philadelphia wrapped in parma ham and roasted veg
  • veg curry (as a soup)
  • beef stroganoff with wilted spinach, rice forDH
  • home made burgers with salad and no bun for me
  • fish baked in the oven with steamed veg
  • beef curry with tomato and onion salad for me

Thats just off the top of my head.

whispywhisp · 13/05/2010 14:26

notasizeten...thanks. Having come off the pill, having cut out caffeine and drinking a lot more water I do feel much better - but I now need to address the carbs in my diet...years ago spuds, pasta, bread and rice never a problem...now, 20yrs later, they seem to be a definite no! Such a shame because I love all of those scrummy ingredients but its now time to find alternatives!

msboogie · 13/05/2010 15:27

notasizten - you really are embracing this aren't you!!

I don't mind coming across as a crazy Atkins devotee so here goes;

breakfast: 3 slices cheddar cheese (I had nothing else in) would normally have eggs

lunch: chicken in pesto and salad

tea: will be 2 quarter pounders with chilli cheese wrapped in large iceberg lettuce leaves instead of bread buns.

drinks: Darjeeling tea, coffee with no milk and water.

not been hungry at all.

notasize10yetbutoneday · 13/05/2010 16:27

Ms Boogie I really am! I have to stop myself from telling all my colleagues about it as people are starting to back away from me at the water cooler...

I'm really worried about falling off the wagon though as tomorrownight we are going to a Chinese restaurant for my friend's birthday- carb city! I can have somethig without rice or noodles but Im worried even the sauces might be full of added carbs. Not sure what I can do though really as she wants to go for Chinese.

BessieBoots · 13/05/2010 16:52

I am dead impressed with you low-carbers. No bread? No potatoes? I know I could never keep that up...

I refused Jaffa Cakes at my Nan's today. "Why aren't you having the biscuits, Bessie?" "Have one, Bess!" "Oh, go on Bessie, you know you want one!" Can't believe I managed to withstand...

OP posts:
notasize10yetbutoneday · 13/05/2010 17:01

Thanks bessie, the thought of appearing in front of 100 people in a snug bridesmaid dress in 3 weeks time is definitely keeping on the straight and narrow!

Well done you for refusing the biscuits, grandmas are the worst for that aren't they! I think they think they haven't done their job unless you roll out of the house absolutely stuffed!

msboogie · 13/05/2010 17:17

notasizeten The Atkins book says that if you are gong to fall off the wagon just pick one thing to be naughty with at a time.

so if you are going out for a chinese either have the noodles or have the wine or have a pudding but not all of them.

I think that is quite good advice as you won't feel deprived and sit there looking miserable while everyone eats and drinks around you but you will get to be a little naughty...

also if you are going out - have your protein breakfast ready for the morning so that if you feel a bit unmotivated (or hungover) you can get straight back on the wagon.

whispywhisp · 13/05/2010 18:19

Tea tonight is....

Baked trout (currently in the oven) on a bed of spinach, peppers, carrots, celery and tomatoes.....mmmmmmmmm

whispywhisp · 13/05/2010 18:20

...next task is to make the kids sarnies for tomorrow.....bread....at my fingertips...so hard not to have a nibble....

hogshead · 13/05/2010 21:05

ok i have started today. this has been really good for me - as i am going to be honest i declined the tasty looking donut in Asda Living this afternoon - so here goes:

(sorry i cant possibly do low carb - i would cry!)

B = 2 slices of toast with marmite (white - i cant stand anything else)

L = salad with feta cheese & 1/2 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar

snack - 1 shortbread finger in Asda Living

T - stir fry with veg and quorn and 1/2 the normal portion of basmati rice that i would normally cook

I might be in denial but i dont think what i eat is necessarily too bad its Portion Distortion with me

BessieBoots · 14/05/2010 06:53

Glad I'm not the only one not low carbing, hogshead!

Right, yesterday...

B= Oatibix
L= Cottage pie at my nan's, fruit salad.
D= prawn stir fry, fruit corner.
Snacks= fruit, and lots of it...

OP posts:
notasize10yetbutoneday · 14/05/2010 08:29

Thanks MsBoogie that is really sound advice actually- rather than write the whole evening off and say 'sod it I'll have every thing', its either alcohol, rice/noodles or pudding. I know alcohol definitely makes me store weight around my tummy so I think I'll have a small portion rice and make it last. Good point about breakfast as well, no fslling into the bacon sandwich trap!

wukter · 14/05/2010 08:45

Can I join in here?
Just realised my wedding date is only 3 months away so it's definitely time to shape up.
Would low-carbing be pointless do you think?
The thought of no-carbing makes me want to cry. I feel this exercise is really going to open my eyes to my "healthy" diet.
Yesterday:
B- porrige with honey.
L- Mash with green beans and tuna (baby friendly lunch)
Snack - tea, bar choc, 2 x biscuits
D- Homemade pizza not too much cheese but plenty of veg.
Snack - tea, choc bar, 2 x bottles beer.

Not good really is it...

whispywhisp · 14/05/2010 09:27

There are some nice meal ideas on here! What a useful thread this is!

B - weetabix with strawberries and blueberries on top...

D - fruit - probably an orange, apple and banana...

L - hard boiled egg salad

.....and lots of water in between....

BessieBoots · 14/05/2010 11:27

Ooh, congratulaions wukter! Do you have your dress yet?
No-carb is amazing for weightloss, but for me personally it was unsustainable... I was starving! Might do it for a week in a fortnight, before a big do I've got...

whispywisp, I am dead impressed...

Manda25 · 14/05/2010 16:23

Hey - good idea. I have been going for 6 months now and am 3.5 stone lighter. I have another stone-ish to go to reach my size 10 on top and size 12 one the bottom goal. I am 10 on top and 12/14 on the bottoms depending on the shop - 12 stone and 6 foot. For the first 3 months i didnt eat any carbs and lost 2.5 stone...for the last 3 months i relaxed a fair bit and lost the other stone.

Today

B: no fat yogurt / small banana
L: Bowl of salad and one slice of chicken & half an orange
Snack: 1 large homemade biscuit (was nice)
D will be grilled meat (chicken and lamb) & salad

I drink about 6 cups of Tea a day and lots of milk - i dont eat cheese (because i dont like it) - lots of water

I need more motivation - it is so easy to eat with out thinking !!

wukter · 14/05/2010 19:38

Thanks, Bessie.
I ahve the dress already, it is lovely and it fits well with magic knickers on. But I want to go - well, not knickerless - but flimsy knickered.
Must tone arms also.
But I am lazy and self indulgent. maybe marriage will change me?

Mandy congrats on your weightloss. Your menu today looks nice.

BessieBoots · 14/05/2010 21:24

Wow Manda! 3.5 stone! I'm very tall too, but I want to be lanky iykwim

B- Oatibix
L- Chicken pasta salad
D- Sausage and apples in a cider sauce with new pots, muller corner
Snacks- fruit.

I know it doesn't look that impressive but I am a compulsive overeater, and it's a lot less than I was eating before...
