The more the merrier queribus. Welcome

So long are you aren't a skinny minny worrying about 1/2 stone then this is the place for you.

Motivation is a bummer isn't it? It is really hard to find the trigger that gets you moving - it took me ages!

I had a small motivational boost today when I went to pick up my boys from school and was reminded that last summer, even though it wasn't very warm, I used to end up hot and sweaty minutes after leaving the house. I will NOT be like that next year.

Do you have any plans queribus?

queribus · 25/05/2010 12:21

If only I had 1/2 stone to worry about!

I'm taking it a day at a time - so far so good today:
shredded wheat for breakfast
sushi and fruit salad for lunch
banana and satsuma for snacks

My problem is when I've collected DD from school and DS from nursery, I start to eat and eat and eat when we get home. I don't keep biscuits and crisps in the house, but it's amazing how muuch cheese and bread and butter I can put away without thinking.

But it's a new day and I'm feeling quite positive.

Can I join in...need to shed 3 and a half stone..feel totally daunted started an internet detox diet yesterday to give myself a kick in the pants.. Feel starving today (although I've just finished lunch so I know I'm not really)
Help me to keep going please??

Niecie · 25/05/2010 19:00

Hi Wonka. Welcome and well done for making a start. The first day is always the worst. I think distraction is the key - keep busy.

Or drink lots of water to fill you up.

queribus - I am like you. I don't eat badly before the children get home from school and then it accelerates over the course of the rest of the day. It is tough as the children are hungry when they get home and so they have to eat something which just tempts me.

wonka · 25/05/2010 19:44

Have done.. did laundry all day and have drunk about 3 lts.. I'll be up all night!lol

phoenixflower · 25/05/2010 21:14

Welcome to all the new ladies who have joined!

I find drinking sugar free squash is tricking my brain into thinking I have had my sweet fix!!

queribus · 25/05/2010 21:25

I managed to end the day well. I didn't eat any of DCs tea and I had prawn salad for my own dinner, so feeling good!

Let's keep it up ...

gagarin · 26/05/2010 23:03

Me too....I have 7 stone to lose and feel miserable but determined.

It'll take at least a year

Niecie · 26/05/2010 23:23

Hello gargarin, I know just how you feel - a whole year!

But then on the other hand, if you are like me you will probably have put the weight on over a much longer time so there are no quick fixes. Bummer though because the whole timescale thing put me off even trying for ages.

The other way to look at it is to think that in 6 months you will have lost 3.5 stone, probably slightly more as you lose more at the beginning, so by Christmas we will be wearing smaller sizes and it will show.

In 3 months you will have lost about 1 3/4 stone and you will notice all your clothes fit better or you will get into some that haven't fitted for ages.

Baby steps but you/we will be improving all the time.

phoenixflower · 27/05/2010 09:22

gagarin - I am loosing the same amount as you and am thinking it will take me about the same time! What plan do you follow?

OP posts:
gagarin · 27/05/2010 23:16

Thanks Niecie - I have been glumly sitting here realising that even if I have only been putting on the tiny (IMO) amount of just 1 pound a month (and an extra 2lbs on holiday every year) I have been putting on a stone a year for the last 5 years.

How stupid does that sound - and why didn't I notice!?

That 3 month goal sounds nice though so I must make the effort to stay in for the long haul.

Phoenix - I am too shy to go to WW at the mo so am just using the Times Health club online tracking thingy and cutting down on carbs and snacks. Once I am in a groove and feeling brave I might do WW.

I know I will be able to do the first 2 stone on my own - but I'll need encouragement (public weighing - gah!) once I've slowed down!

gagarin · 27/05/2010 23:19

and I have lost my first 2lbs today. I managed to eat sensibly all day without snarling at anyone I spotted eating anything yummy so I feel quite virtuous.....

queribus · 28/05/2010 09:17

Still feeling positive, but have stayed away from the scales! If I don't lose as much weight as I'd hoped I get very despondent, so not weighing for a couple of weeks.

Half term next week, though, so that will be tough. We're going to stay with friends and wine/food will be plentiful, so I need to stay strong.

Stay strong.

Stay strong.

Niecie · 28/05/2010 11:19

Well done gargarin! May those 2lb be the first of many! In a fortnight you could have lost 1/2 stone. That is a significant amount and within your grasp.

I know what you mean about the weight going on - I was about a stone a year too, since I finished bf DS2 - I carried on eating like I still needed the calories to feed DS but obviously I didn't. It has been about 5 yrs, having put on roughly 2stone in the previous 5 yrs but that was manageable and I wasn't obese, just fat. But then you look at it and suddenly you have 7 stone to lose and you don't feel that different until you look in the mirror or try to walk up a steep hill or something. It really is sneaky stuff, this fat!

queribus - I wish I was strong enough not to get on the scales daily. It must be lovely to jump on the scales and find you have lost pounds instead of me watching my fluctuations of 0.3lb up and down every day. And I always jump on and off the scales several times as they give different read outs based on where you put your feet on them and where you are on the bathroom floor. I have to take an average.

phoenix - how did you weight in go? Well I hope.

chocolatespiders · 28/05/2010 19:35

Hi all I have 4 stone to lose but 2 stone would be a great start... since monday i have eaten really healthy, i am loving veg and humous for lunch... my worst time is the evenings, when my children have gone to bed i just want to eat but this week i have managed to resist the cheese, toast, crisps and chocolate and just have a bowl of cereal... really hoping i can stick with this having put a stone on since christmas i have nothing that fits nicely and hate getting dressed for sunny days

gagarin · 28/05/2010 20:39

hello chocolatespiders!

I've been at it since Monday too and so far have managed to keep to a sensible meal plan.

But now we have guests and it's Bank Holiday weekend and there will be alcohol and eating out and cake...

Wish me luck - and everyone else too

NappyShedSal · 29/05/2010 17:42

Hello all, I'm going tpo join you. I too have 7 stone to lose. Six weeks ago I was diagnosedwith Type 2 diabetes so I'm now going to make areal efort to lose weight. I have started going to a friends house once a week to use her running machine and cross trainer. And yesterday I joined our local gym - they've got a promotion on - £20 a month for unlimited access to teh gym and any classes. I have decided to suffer the embarassment - it will be worth it in the long run. My weight seems to fluctuate by half a stone nearly every other day, which is very annoyig when I think I've lost some, because the next day I'llbe half a stone heavier again.

I have been offered free vouchers from the diabetic nurse to join either WW or SW - which would most people recommend? And are you really weighed publically so that other people hear your weight?

gagarin · 29/05/2010 22:42

Oh dear

wine (half a bottle); chinese meal; and cake and cream

wipe out today and re-start tomorrow....

PickUpYourPants · 30/05/2010 21:02

Hi can I join too. I need to loose at least 3 stone (more like 5 )
Have back, leg and knee problems all of which will get better when I shift this weight.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 30/05/2010 22:03

Can I join too, please? I need to lose somewhere in the region of 9-10 stone (approximately half my bodyweight ).

I've bought Paul McKenna's book and cd, and am going to give those a try - I've failed at so much else already.

lexcat · 31/05/2010 07:39

Can I join too? Need to lose about 6-7 stone.

Tried just over a year ago lost 2 stone, but have managed to put all most all of it back on again. [embarrassed]

gagarin · 06/06/2010 17:26

Hello everyone - how has it all been gping?

I am winning - very slowly - the battle against second helpings and snacks. I know that sounds like a small (very small!) victory but the fact that I have eaten no sweets/choccies for 2 weeks and avoided second helpings is a big achievement.

It hasn't translated into a huge amount of weight dropping off yet - but I'm in it for the long haul so going from feast to famine would set me up to fail.

So I plod on with slowly reducing the amount I eat.

What about everyone else?

Niecie · 06/06/2010 18:02

Hello, to everybody especially those who who have just joined us. Sorry I haven't been back to this for a few days. Half term has got in the way.

Well done Gargarin - sounds like you are making some progress. I think you are right not to rush it. The good thing is, when you have as much to lose as us, you only need small changes initially to make a difference. I suspect it gets harder as you lose more and your body needs less calories to maintain your weight but for now little changes and little losses are great.

Having been ill for the last couple of weeks I haven't really been making much effort with my changes because I haven't needed to. I haven't felt like eating but I am getting back to normal now so the plan for the week is to get back to eating properly and trying to achieve my target of having lost 2.5 stone by the time I go on holiday in 9 weeks. Wish me luck!
