Need to find a tape measure so I can measure my inches. Think of the DCs has wondered off with it. Probably DD1 sizing up her furniture for renewal ( not going to happen!)

Phoenixflower - how did it go today at SW?

janajos · 13/05/2010 18:43

I have a 10 month old and am 3 stone overweight. Please can I join you. I have started the slimming world diet again this week - it worked before, childbearing wrecks my figure every time!! I could really do with some support.

phoenixflower · 13/05/2010 21:07

janajos - yes, please do join!! I am on SW too and it would be good to talk to someone about SW as well as diets in general!!

pedrothellama - it went well. Well I say it went well. My weight is very high but the group itself was fantastic! Leader is very supportive as are the other members. I am defo aiming for 7lbs off by next week!!

Well done everyone! Just starting and thinking about it all is a start in my book! At my second Slimming World weigh-in I'd lost 3.5 lbs, so 10.5 lbs in total. Can't go to next weeks meeting due to family commitments so am going to be 'flying solo' for a fortnight! Am quite enjoying doing Slimming World, but do seem to be eating a lot of eggs and protein in general! Oh, and many, many grapes and diet coke!

pedrothellama · 13/05/2010 22:29

I have just been cutting down generally, half size portions of meals and stepping up on the walking etc

I am lucky in that I don't have a sweet tooth so that does help but I do tend to cook too much food and love carbs.

The fruit bowl is taking a bashing and needs replenishing a lot more frequently which is a good sign and I feel less sluggish and more energised

Well done Phoenix, the start of your quest!

Niecie · 14/05/2010 15:06

Hello.

Phoenix - How has the first day of SW been going?

Things aren't so bad here but I am being aided and abetted in my diet by having a cough which has been hanging around for over a week now. Kind of taken the edge off my appetite but I'm not complaining.

I really need to start getting more active when I have stopped wheezing. You don't really realise quite how much hard work being 7 stone overweight is until you think about trying to up the activities levels and then realised that it is difficult even to get out of the arm chair! Actually, I am not that bad that I am huffing and puffing but it does sap your energy somewhat. Having started to lose now though, I suppose I need to think about getting active and toning up the wobbly bit!

What is everybody else doing to get active?

phoenixflower · 14/05/2010 15:38

Hi Niecie - hope you're feeling at your best soon!

SW is going well thanks, I am planning to walk up to collect the DCs today, they are at 'friday film club' movie type thing till 5 so gives me lots of time to walk up there without loads of other parents around!! I am not a huge fan of walking for exercise though. I prefer to swim as it is a good toner and helps improve lung function so I am told!

Anybody still about?

How did we all do over the weekend?

I had kept to the plan more or less although I probably ate a bit too much cottage pie yesterday but I had no snacks and a small tea so it doesn't seem to have done any damage. Today is weigh-in day and I am still moving in the right direction! Not too quickly but then it took 6 yrs to put on so I can't expect it to come off that easily, not if I want it to be permanent anyway.

phoenixflower · 17/05/2010 15:13

Niecie - I am about! I did well I think. Had a slice of birthday cake but it was a special birthday so was allowed some cake. had a-lot less than I usually would have!

Welldone on sticking to your weigh in day etc, mine is later this week!

Lots of small steps in the right direction will get us all to our goals!

Niecie · 17/05/2010 15:24

Diets won't work if you deny yourself all the nice things like birthday cake. Consider it an investment in your continued success.

So are you managing to stay off the scales? I am really bad at weighing in more than once a week. Once a day is nearer the mark.

The hardest thing for me at the moment is that it is all going to take soooooo long. I think that is partly why it took ages to get round to doing anything about it. It is depressing to think that at the pace I am going (1-2lbs a week) it will be next March by the time I get to where I am going.

If I think of it in those terms it is almost enough to make me give up. I started in Feb and I won't be slim and gorgeous by my summer holidays. Kind of reinforces the idea that I must be hugeeeee!

Ah bum, have depressed myself now. I have to stay focused on those trousers I wore yesterday that I couldn't do up 3 months go!

phoenixflower · 17/05/2010 17:18

Niecie - I weigh myself about 4/5 times a day. Know I prob shouldn't but do not count them as 'offical' weights as that is what I go to diet club to find out!

It will take me that long ( if not longer) to get to my goal too, but as long as we stay focused with our eyes on the prize, we'll get there!

Still doing the half portions and filling plates with the salads etc. I have swapped lots of the usual things I buy for half fat, low cal, weightwatchers stuff and chowing down on fruit etc etc.

DP hasn't even noticed that he is on a diet too!

pedrothellama · 20/05/2010 21:11

I refuse to be the last thread on this post!

Is anyone there?

Please?

Please?

Niecie · 21/05/2010 11:02

Hello - I'm still here. Haven't been on much as I'm not very well. Had a cough for ages but I think has turned into a chest infection as I have a temperature and what I think they call a 'productive' cough. All a bit gross.

Anyway, off the doctors this pm to see what they say.

Hardly eaten anything since Wednesday. Excellent news for the diet.

How are you getting on?

pedrothellama · 21/05/2010 15:26

As I said - still doing the half portions and I am lucky I don't have a sweet tooth, so eating 'normal' food, I also dislike convenience and junk food so my problem is lack of exercise and eating too much at mealtimes but I do cook from scratch

My jeans feel a bit loose but I am still putting off weighing myself, but DP and I do this exercise DVD in the evenings where we lie like stranded whales on the floor and stretch and contort

Also now that the weather has turned asround DP and I are sepnding so much more time out and about and taking long walks. So things are going according to plan.

Hope you are feeling better seen and I wish Phoenix Flower would post!

pedrothellama · 21/05/2010 15:28

Please forgive the typos - trying to do two things at once!

phoenixflower · 22/05/2010 14:57

Yep am still here! Lost 6lb at SW this week so very please. Aiming for another 4 next week!

Keep going ladies, we CAN do this!

I need to get back to good eating habbits!

Niecie · 23/05/2010 12:14

Wow! Well done Phoenix! You must feel brilliant.

Has it felt like a hardship this week, to be following the eating plan or has it been OK.

Another 4lbs would be excellent. Only another week or so and it will be a whole stone and you can go and buy some shoes (or whatever) to celebrate too!!

Actually I haven't bought my celebratory shoes yet. First of all I was too busy and then for the past 5 days I have been too ill. On the upside, this month I have had the smallest credit card bill I have had for years and years! Hopefully when I have lost 3 or 4 stone I will have something saved up for a splurge on some new clothes cos I am going to need them. When I was last that weight, DS1 was a baby and he is 10 in July. A lot of what I had back then will look a bit dated I should think!

friendly7 - Can you start with little changes? Maybe whilst the weather is good, cut back on the carbs with your meal and have more salad. Or don't have pudding have fruit. Just little things, so you don't feel too deprived?

phoenixflower · 24/05/2010 16:04

Niecie - it has been good. Some tough moments when I have wanted to revert back into old habits but atm am still going strong!

How is your week going food wise Niecie?

friendly7 - i agree with Niecies comments. Little steps is def. the way forwards

OP posts:
Niecie · 24/05/2010 18:37

Still not eating properly unfortunately. Still got a temperature and coughing my lungs up.

Getting a bit bored with it now.

I have lost about 4lbs without trying so that it the upside. Hopefully when I get back in the swing of things I will be able to keep some of that off rather than going back to where I was this time last week. Anyway, it takes me comfortably over 1.5 st now. Hoping for the full 2 st in the next couple of weeks.

I just wish it showed more!! I notice subtle changes and I can wear clothes I haven't worn for months but nobody else would know. When I get better I really need to do the exercise bit of the plan and tone up! I think I need to lose another stone to make an impact (and the other 3 after that).

Hope everybody else is able to enjoy the hot weather and have some fun.

Niecie · 24/05/2010 18:40

Sorry Phoenix, I meant to say, keep going, you are doing a great job. I am sure it will get easier as you do it more. It takes 30 days to make something a habit, so they say.

phoenixflower · 24/05/2010 18:47

Thanks for the encouragement Niecie Hope you are feeling better soon!

Good evening

Can I join you all, please? I've got at least 5 stone to lose and I'm really struggling to find any motivation.

Nearly all my clothes are far too tight and I'm really ashamed that I'm in a size 22!
