We CAN do it! Let's try our best to get slimmer for Summer.

AvaGoOnTheSwingometer · 08/05/2010 18:20

Anyone about? What's the healthiest CHinese takeaway to have (bearing in mind I don't eat wheat or sugar so all the things in sauces will be out)

LesbianMummy1 · 08/05/2010 19:38

sorry only just seen your message chow mein is low calories don't go for duck or anything in batter

Avad · 08/05/2010 20:00

Ah can't have chow mein as the noodles will be wheaty

I ordered a chicken fried rice and mixed vegetables, hope that's not too bad :D

friendly7 · 08/05/2010 20:30

Sounds lovely.

Avad · 08/05/2010 21:24

It is and all the more enjoyable knowing it's not breaking my plan!

pedrothellama · 08/05/2010 22:03

Hi - I have had a good day - two apples and grilled chicken breasts with salad (no dressing) for lunch - a very long walk and steamed vegetables with two small new potatoes for supper then a fruit smoothie.

Phoenix, you are my heroine for starting this thread!

I'm not hungry!

friendly7 · 08/05/2010 22:33

pedrothellama, your choice sounds wonderful.
I must try that.

Avad · 08/05/2010 22:43

OK am I missing something about the power of apples?!?!

friendly7 · 08/05/2010 22:52

Do you mean an apple a day keeps doctor away? LOL, if only that was true I'd never saw a doctor in my life. I love apples.

phoenixflower · 09/05/2010 07:56

No worries pedrothellama!! I think over the weeks you are going to mine too ( I am going to need someone to tell me to not give up as I give up easily when the going gets tough!!)

Right, not been a 'good' weekend but not bloody awful either. The way I see it is any improvement upon my previous eating habits is just that, an improvement! Going down to have my supper now. Probably have couscous, tinned fish in tomato sauce, peas and fresh tomatoes. If I'm still hungry after that lot then I'll have either a banana or a chocolate sachet thingy.

pedrothellama · 10/05/2010 09:13

When I eat an apple it makes me even hungrier - I view them as an aperatif

So last night we went to the theatre with friends and went for an Indian meal afterwards which I was dreading. We tried a new restaurant and it was great, the food was served in small portions including the rice rather than the massive platefuls that we are normally faced with. It was a pleasant change to steer away from the creamy curries and fried rice I normally go for. I had boiled rice with chicken in a tomato based sauce and came out without that bloated, uncomfortable feeling.

We will definately go back there.

The smaller plate idea really does work as well - tried that over the weekend

Hello all, how is everyone getting on?

I had a wee blip yesterday but today is another day and am back on plan

Had to cancel my spinning class tonight as working too late to get there, so I am thinking of dragging my ass out for a jog

friendly7 · 10/05/2010 18:42

Tooooo maaaaaany temptations!!!!!! Okay, def. starting tomorrow. Must do!!!

Mbear · 10/05/2010 19:54

Hi all,

Not had too bad a weekend, although was at parents on Sunday for a lovely roast - oops! But I seem to be veering wildly between all or nothing. Eat loads or go for most of the day without (then pig out in the evening). I think I thought I had an ok relationship with food, but prehaps not...

Hope you all had a good weekend.

phoenixflower · 11/05/2010 08:16

As you know, not started my diet yet ( am going to SW thursday). I feel bad posting what I ate/made yesterday as I don't want to share my non-progress and put anyone off their diet!

friendly7 · 11/05/2010 08:18

Must be good from today. Weekends will be as usual though. Started with a pear, blueberries and blackberries. So far so good. How is everyone? Meals you are having sound lovely!!!

phoenixflower · 11/05/2010 08:21

I am looking forward to starting my diet on thurs. Got to bake 30 cupcakes for eldest DDs birthday party today and make the cake. ( Will try and avoid the 'tasters' along the way!)

Phoenix Flower

If we do this we must be honest with each other - tell us what you ate and it will also help you to get into the habit of a food diary.

Why did we eat that on a certain day - were we pre-menstrual? Upset? Had we been exercising and was hungrier than normal etc etc

I for example have to get into the habit of breakfast

Yesterday I had a ham salad sandwich, two apples, small bowl of popcorn (salted)

In the evening I was awful - I had a chicken that needed using so I roasted it and served it with green beans, broccoli, new potatoes and home made gravy (mushroom and onion).

Ordinarily I would use the leftovers to make a curry the following night but these are going into a green salad tonight.

Popcorn is a good snack (NOT SWEETENED OR BUTTERED) it is quick to make and fills you up.

Try the microwave ones.

Avad · 11/05/2010 13:36

Hi everyone

I agree Pedro, total honesty!

Breakfast: mackerel on ryvita

Lunch: ham/chicken/beef salad

Dinner: tuna steak, stirfried veggies with soy and garlic/ginger/5 spice powder served with brown rice noodles.

snacks: fruit

Hello ladies - well done for taking action!

Can I just say, though... you don't need to diet!

You need to change your habits for life. Dieting will just lead to that depressing yo-yo in your weight.

Over quite a long period I've managed to lose 3 stone and am now a healthy weight (BMI 25 but hoping to lose a little more).

You need to eat lots - fruit, veg, raw carrots etc. And keep up the exercise. I know it's hard to find time with a young family but think of the future benefits in terms of a more active and longer life.

If you have a big roast meal one night don't beat yourself up over it. Think of what normal people do! They eat sweets, cakes, fried food - but every now and then.

Hold on to the mantra:

It's what you do most of the time that counts!

pedrothellama · 11/05/2010 14:15

Fortyplus

That is really where I want to go - I work in an office where there are 24 blokes and they always have junk food all over the place. I mean ALL over the place.

It a combination of factors that contributed to my weight gain - primarily moving to an estate way out of town so I have to drive everywhere. Pah!

I need to replace the amount of walking I used to do with something else I enjoy equally and cut down on the amount I cook in the evenings

phoenixflower · 11/05/2010 14:59

We'll i've made cupcakes today for DD1s birthday party. Made extra and have eaten 6 I know that's bad, really bad but on thursday when I join SW it will all change.

fortyplus · 11/05/2010 15:13

pedrothellama I take lots of fruit and raw carrots to work so if the guys start munching junk I crunch on a carrot which really annoys them!
