Hi, I have started the Dukan Diet. Managed to get thru day 1. Anyone else trying it? What do you think ?

OP posts:
MrsFawlty · 02/06/2010 14:44

Can someone tell me - is there a carb limit on the Dukan Diet? I've been sticking to 20g daily for the last 10 days or so.

Wishiwasacat · 02/06/2010 14:48

AFAIK its no carbs until the consolidation phase (when you have actually reached your goal weight.

Wishiwasacat · 02/06/2010 14:51

apart from the oat bran

MrsFawlty · 02/06/2010 17:28

no carbs at all? Even eggs have nearly a gram per 2...

Either way, I've buggered it, have just had two slices of bread and some malt loaf. Will be interested to see how this affects the scales. And will back on plan tomorrow. Dunno why I fell off. Stupid really, my will power's been supreme until yesterday.

kolacubes · 02/06/2010 18:45

Okay made it to the end of day four, and stuck to my planned food intake. Need to drink another 500ml of water and then had my 2 litres of water (on top of this I've had 2 cups of black tea).

When is it safe to step on the scales, i.e. I don't want to do it too soon and see that I'm refusing all the cakes in the office for no advantage. How many days after starting did you see the weight had come off?

Baileysismyfriend · 02/06/2010 19:57

Well I have eaten everything in sight today and will start this diet tomorrow.

Its handy that we can have yoguhts as that seems much more like breakfast food than meat!

Are we allowed chewing gum?

I really hope I stick to this, I usually have awful willpower and am addicted to crisps. I cant eat them in moderation though, its all or nothing with me. Hopefully my 'all' will be with this diet!

MuthaHubbard · 02/06/2010 20:35

well am at the end of day 2, so far so good. thought i'd be starving or craving cake/chocolate by now but haven't at all.

am surprised come 4pm I am usually ready to eat one of the dc but today only had my dinner half an hour ago.

is fish allowed? have some smoked mackeral in the fridge i quite fancy for breakfast tomorrow - still awaiting book!

wishi - interesting what you say re thyroid, i am the same with an underactive one. when first diagnosed i lost about 2 stone in weight but definitely seem to stick and not able to shift the other 2!! fingers crossed this is the diet for me too

kolacubes · 02/06/2010 21:06

Yes oily fish is allowed enjoy

I am currently working on laptop (and MN) and my ds has just sat right on top of me eating hot buttered toast.

Sure his father put him up to it - nothing like supportive family

androbbob · 02/06/2010 22:26

Got the book today so will read that with interest! Been ok today - made oatbran muffins with a teaspoon of cocoa powder and had them when out with friends and had made normal choc muffins for them - no one noticed mine were different and I didnt feel the odd one out - so happy days! Will weigh in tomorrow and see what my loss to date is!

Hope all are doing well.

jennycomelately · 03/06/2010 09:36

I'm on day 4 of this and am down 6lb! I seem to have lost my appetite entirely, no cravings for chocolate at all. One more day of attack and then vegetables all weekend, can't wait.

MuthaHubbard · 03/06/2010 10:18

never thought i'd say 'whoo hooo' to oily fish but there you go!

well, start of day 3, still not really hungry and couldn't resist weighing in - 3 or 4 pounds down (my scales a bit dodgy) but anyway - another whoooo hooo!!

insertexpletive · 03/06/2010 11:52

Bailey - Yes, chewing gum (as long as sugar free) is allowed!

I also think that most fish is allowed - not just oily fish!

Really looking forward to my weigh in tomorrow - got into a summer skirt today that I have not worn since 2008!

Baileysismyfriend · 03/06/2010 12:05

Well Ive started today....have eaten some fat free natural yoguhts for breakfast - was a bit bitter though.

Am now chomping through a packet of sliced of chicken with a dry BBQ coating from Tescos, Im not sure if thats ok to eat but was the only thing I could find when I dashed to the shops before work....

I checked the carb content and it looked fairly low...

kolacubes · 03/06/2010 17:50

Okay feeling very fed up, have not had any 'banned' foods since Saturday, other than the beef splurge mid week, I've not had excessive amounts of anything.

Today for example 2 eggs, 100g prawns and squid and 2.5 litres of water - and my weight is exactly what it was on Sunday

VTrying · 03/06/2010 21:39

Remember weight fluctuates from day to day, and if you have had a lot of salt, then you may well retain fluid.
Are you feeling hungry?
Do you feel any differently? How do your clothes feel?
Wait til tomorow to do a proper weigh in.
(that will be day 6?)

kolacubes · 03/06/2010 21:47

I've not added any salt although I accept that there's prob a lot of salt in the food anyway.

No fortunately I'm not I thought I would be starving, really wanted crusty roll at lunch today - but managed to resist the urge. But other than that not hungry.

I feel less bloated, trousers feel a bit looser (is that a word? ).

Yes day 6 tomorrow I will weigh in then and hope there's been some reduction.

Thanks VTrying for responding.

VTrying · 03/06/2010 21:59

I say carry on regardless.

Even if you dont show a big loss tomorrow, things are obviously changing if your trousers are looser (yes it is a word !)

Oh, hang on, if tomorrow is day six, then technically the weigh in should be on Saturday morning as you will have done 6 full days. I think anyway.

Well, even if nothing too much changes, on Saturday start the next phase, and keep going, and get your daily walks in.
It will benefit you.
Do you have a lot to lose?
I know I do, so I have to do 7 days attack.
and I failed at the first hurdle.
Today is the first proper day I have done.
I was out yesterday and Tuesday so it all went pear shaped.
I am now going to be hermit like for the next 6 days, so people dont cook pasta for me!

kolacubes · 03/06/2010 22:38

I hope you stay on - i've had biscuits, cake and chocolate all offered to me today, with an honest, oh sorry forgot!!

I am going to Bella Italia tomorrow (unfortunately can't avoid) i'm going to check out the menu before I go to see if there's an exciting salad, I thought seeing as I've not lost anything, it can't do too much harm having veges an evening early.

I've got 3 stone to lose. Today I'd be happy to lose 3lbs!!!!

Good luck for the weekend. I always think weekends are the hardest time to stick to a diet.

kolacubes · 03/06/2010 22:42

Ok had a look on Bella Italia website and seen this:-

Tonno Salad
Flaked tuna with cannellini beans, plum tomatoes, pitted olives, red onions, green beans & a hard boiled egg on a bed of cos lettuce with lemon dressing

That seems to tick a lot of boxes, could be a lot worse.

VTrying · 03/06/2010 22:59

That looks fine,
and they always have chicken!
So go for a chicken salad, dressing on the side, or a chicken breast with side salad/veggies.
it will be fine, just avoid the bread beforehand.
And don't go mad on the wine. Someone up thread got plastered on one glass!

No I really need to stay on. I'm at the ridiculous stage.
I am about a stone heavier than I was this time last year, and thats about 5 stone heavier than I should be.
I do not want (cant afford to anyway) to buy the next size up in clothes. I have a wardeobe full of lovely stuff that I cant get into...

kolacubes · 04/06/2010 08:02

That was my incentive VTrying - clothes didn't fit and didn't have the spare cash to increase the wardrobe size. So need to go back down into the clothes.

Fortunately I'm not a drinker so the one glass of wine suits me.

Good luck for the weekend, let me know how you are getting on.

GetOrfMoiLand · 04/06/2010 08:38

I started this on Tuesday - somehow I have found it remarkably easy. A lot easier that when I have tried the Atkins diet before.

I am not weighing myself obsessively - i am restricting myself to every fortnight. What I am doing instead is measuring myself - I emasured myseklf around the waist, hips, arms and thighs. Hopefully this will go down. I have got a 34" waist for crying out loud.

Anyway, I really like the severity of the diet, as it pretty much is zero tolerance. I am always worse on diets when I can have a small amount of a treat - I am an all or nothing girl.

So - for breakfast I have a coffee and a berocca (never eat breakfast). Lunch is a load of chicken or tuna. Dinner an omelette.

I am also using fibresure - a powdered form of fibre which you mix in a a drink, to make sure I don't get bound up from eating all that protein and egg. I have not had chance to go to Holland and barrett to get oat bran, whatever that is, so have put a spoonful of porridge oats in some muller light vanilla yoghurt, but only had that once. I don't have a sweet tooth at all anyway.

My clothes certainly seem looser already!

itstimmytime · 04/06/2010 09:07

Hi Dukaners - I am on a pv day and wanted to share my brekkie with you because it was lovely. I had 100g of rhubarb done in the micro until soft with a bit of splenda, vanilla extract and some water, I drained off the water and added 2 tbsps oatbran and some fromage frais and it was gorgeous!

I started diet on Tues 27 May, did 7 days attack and lost 6lbs. Now alternating pp and pv, but don't weigh again til Mon. I don't have scales so weigh at local sports centre weekly. Does anyone else do this? I can't have scales as I become obsessed.

Found it hard not to have any alcohol last night as I always drink some wine (usually too much) on a Thurs as I have Fridays off work. Feel great today and off for a bike ride with toddler, but can I manage another whole weekend off the sauce??!

Keep going everyone. By Christmas (maybe even late summer or autumn) we will all be skinny minnies!!

GetOrfMoiLand · 04/06/2010 09:14

I also do not have scales in the house.

I use the ones in Boots which do your BMI as well. There are probably more accurate as well.

itstimmytime · 04/06/2010 09:21

GetOrfMoiLand - where do you get fibresure? I also agree about treats - no grey areas on thi diet, so no rule bending excuses.
