Hi everyone, have just started Dukan after reading about it on these threads. Currently on day 5 of attack and have lost just over 3lb. Hoping to lose 2 - 2.5 stone though, so a long way to go :( Will try and do 2 more days of attack before starting to introduce veg. Hopefully my dukan book will have arrived by then too.

Sugar free jellies have been my saviour - I make them with half water & half skimmed milk to make them more substanstial. Tried the oatbran porridge this morning and found it surprisingly ok and a nice change from eggs & bacon or omelettes!

Could I just ask... which are the best yoghurts to buy? The carb values seemed quite high on the fat free ones I looked at (mueller).

kittya · 01/09/2010 17:25

Iceland do one called Nom Delight which I really like. I havent seen them anywhere else.

Katisha · 01/09/2010 19:57

The lowest carb ones I have found are the TOTAL plain greek fat free ones but they are quite pricey.
So mostly I have been chugging Muller Lites with lots of bran in.

Hi all

Well first I have a confession to make. I haven't lost 40lb at all :( I have lost 33 lb :) I miscalculated my starting wieght.
But hey 33lb in 5 weeks is still pretty amazing.I still have 44lb to lose so still a bit to go.

Yes I found walking during the atack stage quite hard, even though I had been walking 30 mins every day for months beforehand. After a couple of days I felt so tired and groggy, got headaches and suffered nausea but it passed a few days later and have felt great ever since. I suppose the more weight I lose the better I feel.

The compliments at work are keeping me going, especially when I see someone from another office that I haven't seen since I started the diet.

Am eating about 3 muller lites a day and also starting to use more plain yoghurt in cooking as I am fed up of dried meat and am experimenting more now.

Well done to all you losers Grin. Keep it up x

moonshine · 01/09/2010 21:52

Wow MummyBirdthe1st that is still an incredible loss in the time - I never did that when I was on Lighterlife and I was by far the fastest loser in my group!

I also mainly eat the Mueller Lite (and even have mostly banana and custard which I know is strictly not allowed), although I know I should cut down on the artificially flavoured stuff, although I'm not a great believer in the gream aspartame conspiracy. The Count on Us M&S vanilla ones are good as well, with a similar carb count and have sucralose but beware and don't make my mistake - M&S also do a vanilla no fat one which is very carb heavy! Also love the Greek 0% but it does make me think of my usual dessert of yoghurt and berries.

Hands up to being guilty of eating differently to the rest of family mostly. I find roasts the easiest for everyone(although I really do miss not the roast potatoes but the yorkshire pud and gravy combo).

Oh well, back to school/work tomorrow - quite sad in some ways but at least life will get its rhythm again and I do find it easier with the whole food lark then.

One more question - does anyone have a theory as to why Atkins and the Neris/Knight diet allow a few squares of dark choc but it's not allowed on the Dukan?

moonshine · 01/09/2010 21:53

Oh and waves to Saltcod - hello and good luck - it's really not a bad diet!

Katisha · 01/09/2010 21:57

Oh well Mummybird - it's still great going. I sympathise what with my scales dilemma (shows 4 or 5 lbs difference depending whether scales are on carpet or hard floor) I don't really know where I am either and 4 or 5 lbs is a lot when it's going so slowly!

Anyway I am going to conduct a scientific experiment tomorrow and compare my own readings with my friend's Wii fit reading, and then believe the one I like the look of most...

I have just had a nice plate of chicken tikka from the takeaway but now feel oddly hungry. (Didn't have any rice or naan I hasten to add). Might have to hit the yoghurt again myself.

Katisha · 01/09/2010 22:00

Re the chocolate issue - I think Dukan is just hard core full stop. Fat phobic and therefore chocolate is out.

And on the eating same as family thing - I don't find it too difficult to have whatever they are having without the carbs really and they are used to it now. If I could be bothered I could shred and cook some cabbage to go with bolognese sauce or curry but tend not to bother nowadays.

MummyBirdthe1st · 01/09/2010 22:26

I use the Wii fit for my scales now, I hadn't been on for a while and was using my mums scales but I finally bought some new batteries to put in the balance board and realised I wasn't as heavy before as I thought I was.
I would like to think its the diet causing havoc with my memory but I think its more to do with my age Confused lol

I'm not a great believer in weighing daily, never have been. I just weigh once a week.

I was so pleased on Monday when I saw I had lost another 4 lb that I celebrated with a yorkshire pudding and a bit of stuffing (the sage and onion sort ;) ) Well you have to have a treat sometimes.
I have even been having the odd sauage but i am finding that my tastes are really changing. I don't enjoy my food as much as I did. Which is a good thing I suppose.

dott · 01/09/2010 23:40

I am on my second day of Dukan going ok - can I ask what is the longest you have stayed on the attack phase for? I would like to stay on it for one month is that realistic?

And have you all done the oatbran and the yoghurts - do you think it is necessary and why not say porridge or barley? As an ex atkinser it all seems a bit alien.

Have you all stuck to the low fat protein - do you think that is important?

Not to worry if answering all of that is a faf!

Katisha · 02/09/2010 00:02

Dott my gut reaction is that a month on attack is too much. 5 days is all you need to start the process. I think a month without veg is unhealthy really. And there is no need to keep it up that long.

I have been doing the oatbran and I think it probably is important to get oatbran and not some other roughage-type thing. But I think the yoghurt is optional really - most of us find it a necessary crutch and a vehicle for bran!

Yes, am also an ex-Atkinser and there is much to get your head around, but while I don't necessarily like it I am finding that following the low-fat rule is being much more effective than Atkins became for me. Atkins worked the first time, but seemed less efective the more used to low-carb I became. So for results I would say yes, do the low-fat side of it as far as you can.

Murraythecat · 02/09/2010 05:00

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm feeling pretty good as I just got on the website for the restaurant where we're going and there are SO many Dukan friendly diets.

And yeah I definitely won't tell anyone I'm on a diet let alone the one I am on. People know so much less about nutrition than they think they do and end up sabotaging something that is actually something positive. Because you know... I really do have to lose this weight, for me.

Everyone is doing so well. Reading everyone's progress is so much fun! :)

notyummy · 02/09/2010 08:42

Hi Dott

I am now on my third day of attack. Would second the advice you have been given re the length of time on Attack - the book clearly says 10 days at the longest - and that is only if you are very overweight/obese and have clearance from your doctor. Otherwise 7 days is the longest he recommends. If you go to his website, you can calculate how long you should be on attack for.

The book also explains why oatbran as opposed to other roughage (something to do with the milling process and how much water it absorbs, therefore filling you up, I think.) I have had it for breakfast, mixed with fat free fromage frais and a little sweetner for the past couple of days, and it really is filling.

The fat thing is basically because most fats are essentially unhealthy. Yes, we need 'good' fats long term, which is why they are reintroduced in the 'maintenance' stage, but they hinder weight loss in the short term.

Not trying to set myself up as an expert btw - only on day 3 myself. 4 lbs lost so far though - only 2 or 3 more to go!!

kittya · 02/09/2010 09:21

Im day three and had an apple during the night. I know this is bad but Im still trying to get my head around why.

I dont know if it was a coincidence but I had the most terrible stomach cramps after I had eaten it.

Katisha · 02/09/2010 09:56

Generally low carb diets avoid fruit as it is actually pretty sugary.
Dukan brings apples in on the consolidation phase as they are one of the less sugary ones. Berries are the best low carb fruit.

No idea why it would give you stomach cramps though.

saltcod · 02/09/2010 11:43

Thanks for the welcome Moonshine :) Some amazing weightlosses on here - very inspiring!

Off to Tescos at lunchtime to go and examine all the labels of their fat-free yoghurts, plus will take a trip to Iceland on Sat to check out the ones that Kittya mentioned.

My book still hasn't arrived so I'm not quite sure what I can eat after the attack phase. So will stay on the attack phase for a couple more days. Day 6 now and have lost 4lb. Getting a bit obsessed by the daily weigh in!

Have been sneaking a few disallowed foods such as a couple of chunks of sugar free chocolate (woodies - yum!). And gravy to have with my roast chicken.

It's my birthday this weekend, so I know I'm going to fall off the wagon - inlaws taking me out for lunch & parents are cooking a roast dinner. Plus there will be birthday cake at work. Will probably re-gain the lost 4lb in a flash :(

notyummy · 02/09/2010 12:18

Apologies in advance for the TMI in this post but...

Anyone a bit, ermmm, 'bunged up'? And if so, what do you do about it?

I have been drinking LOADS of water (3 to 4 litres a day) so don't think it is down to this.

Would a gentle laxative be high carb??

saltcod · 02/09/2010 12:42

Notyummy, are you having the Oatbran each day?

notyummy · 02/09/2010 12:44

Yep, having it with fat free fromage frais for breakfast. Trying to pretend it is like cereal .

SnowieBear · 02/09/2010 12:48

Hi notyummy - you are on day 4 of attack, aren't you? All I can say in my experience about being "bunged up" is that it passes. Not much you can do about it, but it certainly will be better when you start cruise and have some veg. Dukan says in the book that if it does bother you, laxatives are OK - I'm sure you can get something herbal from H&B or such like that will do the trick.

9 13 today... seven pounds to go and I will have lost the two stones that were bothering me so much! Strangely scared stiff about the prospect of moving onto the third phase of the diet when I reach my goal - anyone else feeling like that?

PandaBear · 02/09/2010 12:50

Hi Dott - I'd definitely not do the attack phase for a month. In fact, I read that you will start to plateau and at that point you should switch.

Notyummy - I had that problem and took a laxative to get things moving along again. It may not be strictly allowed, but when you've got stomach ache and are generally feeling awful it's harder to stick to a diet. Well, that was my theory anyway.

Can anyone confirm are you allowed to have tomatoes on a PV day? Wasn't sure as they are strictly a fruit - but boy is chilli dry without them!!

SnowieBear · 02/09/2010 12:53

Re: yoghurts, I really dislike the Muller Lites, I find them too sweet and a bit runny. I came across Brooklea Light at Aldi and I have one of those a day with my sawdust.

I've just finished one, so I have the pot in front of me: 131 calories and 0.2g of fat. However, quite high on sugar 20.7g - mind you, it is the one treat of the day, and I don't think it makes such a difference as I've managed to lose over 1 1/2 stone since starting mid July. So, I can thoroughly recommend them for taste, they are fab!

SnowieBear · 02/09/2010 12:58

Hi PandaBear (are we related? waves), tomatoes are allowed. Enjoy your moist(er) chilli!

MummyBirdthe1st · 02/09/2010 14:15

Hi all

notyummy I have found if a little bunged up walking or some form of dancing exercise really helps for some reason. )Could be the mind over matter thing you know, the further away from the toilet you are the more you want to go Grin )

For anyone else that may suffer with bloatedness or being bunged up Feiyan tea may help. Best to buy if from the internet rather than the chinese herbalists as it is cheaper, still pricey though but it certianly has helped me. I have been on it for a litle while now. I haven't drank coffee or normal tea since April. And I was a 7 large mugs a day coffee girl. And I feel so much better for it.m I think this may also be helping me with my weight loss.
