Can I join you please? Thought it'd be rude not too as have been 'lurking' and absorbing some good advice, and actually started at the same time as some of you, I think, ie last Monday (11 days ago).

As of today I have lost 6lbs, which I'm quite pleased with, but must admit also slightly disappointed at as I'm also impatient and, more importantly, I have 2 lovely dresses I'd love to wear for 2 upcoming events and prospects are not looking good atm. But I have such a bad dieting history that I'm sure my metabolism is well and truly f**ked.

I haven't had alcohol yet and don't drink loads but I do love a wine or 2 on a Friday and Saturday night (probably long-programmed 'wind-down-beginning-of-weekend' stuff going on there) and am tempted this weekend. However, even one glass of wine blows me right off course so maybe I should resist (sob, sob). However am such a carnivore I am finding it quite easy, if boring, but then I haven't made any great effort to be inventive with food yet. Do you all make elaborate dishes, adapt favourites or, like me, just eat dried hunks of meat spiced up?

PandaBear · 27/08/2010 14:13

LondonLottie - thanks for the idea. Will probably do what you say. I'm going to take my Oatbran with me and will make porridge in the morning. THen like you say meat and salad all the way .... just avoid the crisps that the hubby and kids will be eating. Have to drink alcohol though, it's the only way I sleep on a campsite!

Moonshine - re dinners I've been having mainly lumps of steak, and other meats on a plate which is nice but gets a bit boring. Last night decided to be a wee bit adventurous and made a stir fry (dry fried!!) with chicken, spring onions, mung beans, peppers, chillis, garlic and soy sauce. It was lovely!!! Hubby's comment though was less than favourable.... "What's that sh**!!". He sure knows how to encourage Smile

Ive had a glass of rose. Probably ruined the whole week now {confused]

moonshine · 27/08/2010 22:40

Kittya, as this is not a ketosis-type diet, the most that will probably happen is that you might retain a bit more water than usual but that will soon go on a protein day. But I would be interested to hear if you think it has made any difference (apart from your resolve!). I just have a weird metabolism that makes even a little bit of wine make me put on pounds but usually I just put up with it.

Tonight I am Stone Cold Sober. On the upside, I haven't fallen asleep on the sofa yet.

kittya · 27/08/2010 22:52

Im sober, just having two. I have a problem with wheat, I think, and thats why my stomach has gone right down. Will go back to the protein day tomorrow, I have bought two chickens!!

Katisha · 27/08/2010 23:52

I've just had a single malt. Been a bit of a week!
NIght all!

11 lbs in 12 days is great! Good news.

I am in the usual cycle of a new low number apearing on the scales, then going away for a week before reappearing! zzzzzzzzzzzzz
So I am now apparently in pound a week kind of trend. That's OK, but means I won't be at target weight for around another 2 months which is extremely tedious.

Im still on the attack. Lot 2lbs, not brilliant but I did down a bottle of wine last night.

I need to buy some bottles of water so I can monitor how much Im drinking.

Im not sure how long I can live without veg though. Why are they barred?

Katisha · 28/08/2010 12:54

I'm not quite clear on this kittya, but Dukan believes that days when you are eating veg result in water retention and therefore no weight loss, although I reckon there would still be fat loss.

Lottie I am being a bit erratic with the protein/protein plus veg days at the moment, what with it being the fag end of the summer holidays combined with a busy spell at work.
I think when the DSs are back at school and work is back on a relatively even keel I'll be able to be more consistent.

I tend to find though that I only have veg at one meal when on a non-pp day. The omelette for breakfast and some meat/fish type of thing for lunch. Then I eat with DH and have whatever veg he is having, although not the spuds.

kittya · 28/08/2010 12:59

it confuses me too, considering you can eat as much veg as you want on other diets.

How long should I do the attack for? I have a stone to lose.

Katisha · 28/08/2010 13:49

I'd do 5 days max kittya.

moonshine · 28/08/2010 15:19

Wow Londonlottie, 11.5lbs in 12 days is fab and I am very Envy. Interesting that you say you think wine is more 'forgiving' on this diet. I'm sure I will succumb soon but am in the 'zone' atm so I want to try and lose a few more pounds before I risk it (although God knows if I'll feel the same later!).

How I understand it is you can eat unlimited veg on the p+v days with a caveat not to go mad (although I'm not sure how you can overdose on some veg) but that it will mean you retain more water so that the real weight loss will not show until you are on a pure protein day. I'm like you Lottie and am slightly afraid of veg still and so have only had the odd salad. But I can still eat most of a chicken all by myself Hmm.

I have to lose about 25 pounds to get to a healthy bmi. I'm aiming for within half a stone of that I reckon as I think I look ok as a small size 14 and I know with my greedy tendencies love of food I shouldn't be too overambitious. Also I do tend to agree with Dukan about people having a 'true' weight. Ime as someone who has tried the dreaded Cambridge/Lighterlife Diets and spent many a hour lurking on those and other 'diet' forums, people are over-ambitious and inevitably set themselves up for disappointment and failure.

I can easily eat half a chicken.

Im forgoing a birthday night out tonight as it is dinner and booze. This is what I hate about dieting, its always when theres loads of social stuff going on.

Im getting serious tomorrow. Six nights at work, I know I can do it. Its my birtday next weekend so I would like to look abit slimmer!

moonshine · 29/08/2010 15:39

Kittya - are you doing anything exciting for your birthday? One more week could see off another 2/3 pounds??

Lottie - you seem to be doing extraordinarily well even though you have had some wine so why worry, if it helps you stay on the straight and narrow, so to speak? Hope you make up with dh - I seem to argue more and more with mine and, tbh, it is a blessing when we aren't really talking (how sad is that?).

Half a pound on today. I know there are lots of logical explanations (too much salt and so retaining water, totm supposed to be starting etc) but that's the kind of thing that derails me so I tried on one of my target dresses this morning. I can barely pull it over my fat bum and stomach but it did strengthen my resolve today, which is good as am making a lovely roast, with yorkshire pudding and crumble [drool]. And this shall pass too....

Actually, thinking about it, my totm is a few days late - eek. Has anyone got far enough down that road to reassure me that it's the diet that is mucking it around [suddenly slightly worried emoticon, although I am too old for babies]?

Moonshine, what do you think Im doing? bloody eating out!! what else is there at our age!!

Italian as well, its going to be very difficult.

Katisha · 29/08/2010 19:06

Moonshine weight loss can affect periods - def does for me, although I am all over the place these days, what with getting on a bit!

Lottie - how unfortunate to fall into ice cream like that. You'll have to hike up an Alp of your choice and work it off. Mind you whenever I go up mountains I have to have pockets full of chocolate.

And kittya agree Italian is tricky as it's so carb based. There might be a salad or a special though. In Pizza Express (which I know is not exactly Italian) I always have the salad nicoise. Without the doughballs. Well, without most of them...
