Dukan Diet, anyone trying it

Hi, I have started the Dukan Diet. Managed to get thru day 1. Anyone else trying it? What do you think ?

OP posts:
kittya · 11/08/2010 11:51

Is the first phase the same as Atkins but without the cheese?

Katisha · 11/08/2010 13:04

No it's purely protein only. Plus low fat dairy. On Atkins you would be eating green leafy veg as well in induction. And Atkins doesn't include anything low fat. Dukan is much more hard core in that it's low fat as well as low carb. Took me a while to get used to.
The next phase of Dukan (after attack) is veg on alternate days.
Have you the Dukan book? It's cheap on The Book People at the mo I think.

kittya · 11/08/2010 13:17

I havent no. I will look for it.

SpanishHarlot · 11/08/2010 20:36

The book is good because it has lots of recipe ideas in it.

The web site is a bit pants, I signed up for it thinking it might keep me focused but it is just standard stuff sent to you depending on how you answer the daily report.

The recipe ideas are good though if you get stuck for ideas.

I like the diet but sometimes you need a bit of a blast to refocus yourself.

Have just eaten a custard cream so will feel very guilty for rest of evening. Hmm

SnowieBear · 13/08/2010 13:38

Hi there all!

I have finally lost my first stone!!! 10 7 this morning, just another stone and a bit to lose... (I really, really, really want to be 9 6 again Smile).

Going on a two week holiday of Sunday, will be packing my oat bran and go shopping first thing Monday morning for my yoghurts, etc. I really plan to stick to it whilst I'm away, I think if I concentrate on how disappointed I'll be if I come back home to a weight gain I may even manage to do it.

Well done to everyone on their results, keep it up!

SpanishHarlot · 14/08/2010 12:57

well done SnowieBear...keep up the good work. have a nice holiday

Hello all - day one for me. I'm going to try the attack for three days and according to the website I then need 76 days to consolidate my weight loss.

This is my food plan for today

B: low fat yog/bran and boiled egg
L: fish platter (have got prawns, mackeral, mussels)
D: steak and possibly chicken thighs (depending on how hungry I am)

Along with lots of water.

Tomorrows plan is:

B: as day 1
L: steak and prawns
D: tandoori chicken

I'm a bit confused about the sauces - in the book it talks about the vinagraitte - can I have this on attack?

Hi, i'm on my second day of attack and this afternoon I feel a bit yuk. Headache, nausea - how long does it take to feel better?

DrSpechemin · 17/08/2010 16:16

Yesterday went really well thank you. Didn't feel hungry or have any cravings - stuck to water all day and then had some diet 7-up in the evening and it tasted sooo sweet.

Today has been pretty good so far although I really want to go and eat cake :o

Bambootoo - I'm on day two and in the last half an hour have just come down with a stinking headache - I'm now glugging water to try and help it subside.

Have managed to stay on track despite having to travel for a meeting - found some chicken and prawns in M&S and had them for lunch. Didn't get a chance to have a morning snack so I think that may have contributed to the headache this afternoon.

Dinner is going to be chicken thighs with a peri-peri rub on them.

I think I'm going to try and do another day of attack tomorrow - that will be three - and see how I get on from there. I think I may have lost a pound so far - my weight really fluctuates on a daily basis so it will take a while for it to show I think - also I had smoked mackeral for lunch yesterday which is quite salty so I guess that impedes weightloss.

Am going to lie down in the dark and see if that helps the headache (as well as stopping me thinking about cake)

insertexpletive · 17/08/2010 18:14

Hi everyone.

Sorry to have been AWOL.

Things are going well, but I have had a lot of party food, including cake today as it is my ds birthday Blush
Think I am already in holiday mode as go away for 10 days tomorrow (UK so should be able to stick with diet)

I am now 38lbs down and within a lb or two of my original goal weight.
I am debating whether to carry on for another half a stone or so. I am going to take it easy on the diet over the next few weeks and see how I feel. I am now the smallest I have been for the last 18 years (since 1st year at uni) I do not know what it is to be a consitant size 12 (am now a 12-14) and am wonderig what it would feel like to be thin. I know that I am slimmer now, but I have never been thin and at 5ft 10 not sure how it would look on me.

Anyway, sorry for going on a bit. Welcome to all the new starters - stick at it. The dizzy and low energy days usually only last 24-48 hours and for me were gone by day 5.

Good luck

MummyBirdthe1st · 17/08/2010 20:03

Hey all

insertexpletive well done :) I forget now, how long has it taken you to lose the 38 lb? You have done so well, as I said before I read this thread from the beginning and was so motivated by Uggmum ,you and others that I actually bought the book ( I was doing it from a paper article). So far I am loving the diet.

I am currently on a two week annual leave, last week I spent a week in Weymouth and did a lot of walking, we went to a couple of restaurants and I still managed to stick to the diet. I made myself a rule that I would only cheat if I really really fancied something. I did cheat a little but not much and when I did it was small amounts. For instance one night my mum had a pizza, and I just pinched 1 slice. It was enough. I was over the moon today to find that I have lost 7lbs in the 10 days I have been off :) So the cheating didn't make much difference.

In total now I have lost 2 & 1/2 stone Although to be honest I think the first stone was down to me cutting down before and doing more walking.

My lethargy, headaches & nausea lasted a couple of days.

Good luck to every one.
And well done to all you losers Grin

Katisha · 17/08/2010 21:24

Checking in again.
I am back to where I was before going on holiday and guzzling cream teas.
So it's a stone off and ideally abother 10-14lbs to go.

Getting a stone off has made a huge difference to the fit of clothes and I have already been on a mini-spree in the sales. Size 16 is a thing of the past at last and it's a shock to get size 14 trousers to do up as a matter of course! Sizes fluctuate so wildly in different shops though, that it's hard to know what's what - I seem to be anything from a 14 to - madly - a 10 in one particular skirt...

Anyway - I have been faffing about on the same-ish weight for weeks now so it's time to make a concerted effort to get it moving downwards again.

Insertexpletive - my opinion FWIW is that maybe you should now consolidate at the weight you are rather than trying to be thin. My worry is that you would find it hard to maintain the really low weight and lose heart and start creeping back up past where you might want to be. Dukan does seem to think that you can never be as thin as you were pre-DCs, and I think he is probably right.

insertexpletive · 17/08/2010 21:26

A 7lb loss when you have been on holiday? That really is amazing - well done you.

I started this diet at the beginning of May. I am pretty chuffed with the way that it has gone and my friends and dh seem impressed with me too Smile

Hi All,

Can I join too? I started that attack phase on Monday this week -and so far have been really good. Feel a bit tired today though and am sooooo not looking forward to the Oat Bran porridge for brekkie!!! Still, only another 2 days of the attack phase - i miss veggies.

Does anyone have any good recipies that we can all share?????

Well done to all of you who have done so well - hope I can follow in your footsteps

DrSpechemin · 18/08/2010 08:44

I had a real dip last night at the end of day two - the headache just felt awful and I scoffed half a punnet of raspberries as they looked soooo nice.

I don't think I've got the will power (and enough time in my life) to do this longer term and I read in the book that if you have only got a little bit of weight to lose then you can do two days of protein a week and then eat reasonably healthily the other five days so I think I might adapt the diet and try and stay reasonably low carb for the other five days - I just struggle to have limited fruit and veg though.

I've lost 4lbs on attack and will try and stick to the main principles and will aim for the following approx diet:

B: yog & oat bran
L: fish/chicken salad
D: ???

The good thing about the attack phase is that I feel like its taken some of the cravings for sweet things and bread away so I'm going to try and continue without. I definitely don't feel so hungry for junk and I think that is definitely related to the sugar lows.

DrSpechemin · 18/08/2010 08:48

By the way - you are all doing do well - I wish I had your willpower - what an inspiration :o

rainbowinthesky · 18/08/2010 08:59

Just seen this thread and after reading for a few minutes bought the book off Amazon.
I am going shopping today. Is it possible to start now or should I wait for the book? Can anyone explain the first 3 or 4 days to me so I know what to buy and eat till the book arrives??

bambootoo · 18/08/2010 09:01

feel much better this morning, I hope it lasts through the day as I always seems to have a bit of a dip in the afternoon. DH's birthday yesterday so I made steak and chips for him and I just had the steak. Went to bed feeling really full, but I'm down by 3.5lb today.

DrSpechemin - I hope you're feeling better this morning

LondonLottie & PandaBear - well done, keep it up :)

insertexpletive _ I've found your posts really inspiring too, sounds like you are about the same height and age to me, with a similar amount to lose. I also dont have a real idea of where I want to get to as its just been so long, so I'll be really interested how you get on.

I've been messing around with ww for nearly a year and although I've lost a stone, I feel like I'm not getting anywhere fast - my baby is 3 next month, so I cant claim its baby weight any more. Hopefully this will give me a kick start

Mummybird - Thats a fantastic loss on holiday too. I'm off in a month, and if I manage to keep going that long, I will want to think what I will do while I am away.

bambootoo · 18/08/2010 09:20

I may need to go to a thai restaurant for lunch later in the week, when I will hopefully still be on the attach phase.

Is there likely to be anything that i can have? Or should I try to suggest somewhere else? Not a lot of choice around here though, maybe a pub lunch and have a steak.

Katisha · 18/08/2010 09:27

I would say have some sort of curry without eating the rice - I do this all the time.
I am not all that well up on Thai food so can't think offhand what else you could have if you are in complany and need to look as if you are not on some horrendous diet that people will feel the need to comment on! There may be some sort of veg starter you can have, hopefully.

I find that the odd lapse doesn't do all that much harm (dangerous talk) as long os you do protein only for a day or two afterwards. It may be easier to eat reletively normally in the restaurant and compensate later rather than have an awkward time of it.

Katisha · 18/08/2010 09:33

sorry about typos - must actually use "preview message" now and then...

Anyway I am down 2 lbs today so the post-holiday crackdown is starting to pay off!

Rainbowinthesky welcome! I would say it's worth waiting to get the book so that you get a good grip on the principles really. But until it arrives you could start the carb cutback perhaps?

rainbowinthesky · 18/08/2010 09:45

Thanks - I have had a bowl of cereal today already before reading this thread! damn it.
I did the cambridge diet a few years ago and lost 3 1/2 stone in 3 months on it and loved it but cannot afford it this time round.
I will stop carbs and stock up on oat bran, meat and muller lights till book arrives.
