Hi, I have started the Dukan Diet. Managed to get thru day 1. Anyone else trying it? What do you think ?

insertexpletive · 03/08/2010 12:51

ps - I was just into the obese range before so have gone down two categories since starting the diet at the beginning of May

SpanishHarlot · 04/08/2010 11:49

Got four cakes to bake today...so hard not to just nibble at the top parts that you cut off to make them level..

fed up with the pancake but probably because I am crap at making it...ends up like sawdust scrambled egg so just cover it with a yoghurt and it tastes ok

am sticking on 12 12 at the moment so will try very hard to do pp for two days running to break through this barrier. Also just came on so prob a bit to do with it and with the stomache cramps I just cannot be bothered to do anything.

clothes are getting looser but on the contrary husband getting fruitier so you win some you lose some ha ha..

keep going girls

SpanishHarlot · 05/08/2010 10:22

How is everyone doing today?

We are off to the water park so have made a nice tuna salad to take with me. Don't know if will be able to stay away from the ice creams but will let you know.

still 12 11 but will try to give it a good boost this week and drop some more. Positive feedback from DH is making it easier.

MissWooWoo · 05/08/2010 11:00

Aaaarrgggghhh! can I ask some advice please Dukan ladies?

Am stuck just below 13 stone, literally just under, not even 12st 13. After a couple of days of protein & veg (slight blip of a couple of boiled potatoes) and no weight loss I decided to switch back to PP, 2 days on and still no shift in the weight. Was hoping to have something low carb today but now feel compelled to do another PP day ... anyone else experienced this? Uggmum, insertexpletive any advice?

yesterday had some slices of ham, lean mince and onion, natural yog with 2 tbsp oatbran, skimmed milk in my teas, half a small bottle of sprite zero. Where am I going wrong?

heyho1 · 05/08/2010 14:26

Hi, was looking for Dukan recipes and stumbled across here.
I have lost a stone in a month on Dukan and delighted with the diet overall. Another stone to go!
MissWooWOo, are you drinking the water and doing the exercise? I think it recommends for those who are stuck and not losing that you up the exercise to 60 mins for 4 days in a row, that should kick start your metabolism again.

insertexpletive · 05/08/2010 15:17

Hi MissWooWoo I would echo heyho's advice.

Make sure that you are drinking enough and try and do a little more excercise.

I have gone through many 'stuck' phases, but it does seem to pass. How much more have you got to lose? This last half a stone is going to take me an age it feels, but to be honest, I think that is because I have been having a more difficult time sticking to the diet by the letter and cheating too often.

On a plus note, a young person that I work with today, in a meeting, said that she wanted her foster carer to be slim "like you"

  • I could have hugged her
uggmum · 05/08/2010 16:15

Miss Woowoo.

I have experienced the same thing. I would increase your water intake, stick to pp for at least 4 days and do a really sweaty exercise session. That should quickstart it again for you.

MissWooWoo · 05/08/2010 16:53

thanks for the advice, I don't think I'm drinking enough which is very bizarre as usually I get through 2 litres of water a day no problem ...must confess I'm not really doing any "exercise" as such just my normal, walking to and from park, running around park etc. Stuck to PP again today so if I have another PP day tomorrow, drink more water, get Davina out and huff and puff a bit (and perhaps - ahem - have a poo?) something might shift?

insertex I've got looooooooooads to go, 3 stone or thereabouts but I'm giving myself til December to do it (the big FOUR O looms), how lovely to be described as slim

Will report back at the weekend - although oficially I have left the thread . I just can't keep away, am finding Dukaning strangely addictive.

uggmum · 07/08/2010 08:26

I am going on holiday today for 3 weeks. I have packed my scales, oatbran and Dukan Diet book.

I will let you know my progress, I am hoping to stay the same weight and will try the 3rd stage of the diet during this time (2 celebration meals a week).

When I return I will go back to pp to try to shift the remaining stone.

OP posts:
insertexpletive · 07/08/2010 12:14

Have a lovely holiday Uggmum

I have managed to shift the 2lbs that I put on when I went away, so am now back to 35lbs loss Smile

I have about 10 days before I go away for two weeks - really need to try and be focused between now and then and try hard to be good whilst away.

MissWooWoo have you got over your 'stuck' phase?

MissWooWoo · 07/08/2010 16:13

packing the scales, there's dedication ... you are an inspiration to us all *Uggmum". Hope you've gone somewhere hot and sunny and not raining like it is here and that you have a fabulous time.

and yes, the scales have finally budged insertex ... am delighted to be 12st 12 this morning, still on PP though as I've got a few days coming up over the next week where it will be a bit "difficult" to not eat veg - in other words I can't be arsed explaining Dukan to my mum and if I don't at least eat veg she'll raise eyebrows.

Katisha · 08/08/2010 11:23

Right - back from a week in Cornwall which started off OK diet-wise and then degenerated into cream teas, pasties, bread rolls, vats of wine, and a final blow out of ravioli and tiramisu.

4lbs back on. The photos have also made me realise that I am not quite as thin as I imagined I was getting...

Oh well - back to attack!

DrSpechemin · 09/08/2010 08:28

Hello - I'm considering this I could do with losing a stone and have read some of the beginning of the thread - but have one quick question...

All this ham - can I have nice ham or does it have to be processed 'low fat' branded ham?

Katisha · 09/08/2010 10:43

Nice ham fine IME. Dukan is anti-ham altogether in the early stages but frankly I don't think it makes much difference. Cut the fat off.

DrSpechemin · 09/08/2010 11:57

great - am feeling pre-menstrual so will be starting in a week so will be back then for support and wisdom :o

insertexpletive · 09/08/2010 13:01

Agree with Katisha - I do not know what I would do on this diet without ham!

SpanishHarlot · 09/08/2010 21:03

I agree on the ham front, also frankfurters are a great grab from the fridge in dire times (even though not on the diet)

Was my birthday yesterday so had a few (ok a lot!!!) drinks and a bit of cake.

Have been good today but feel very sluggish so must drink more water to shift it.

I really want to get below 12 7 so must keep going. So easy to get a bit complacent with this diet. Must concentrate more.

keep going everyone..Smile

AbsOfCroissant · 10/08/2010 16:04

I'm back. I kind of dropped of Dukan for a while (Dukan + moving house is never a good mix), but managed to lose a decent amount last time and hope to lose some more again. I need moral support though - I find the high protein stuff really tough, as I love vegetables, so much. Also, I weighed myself and I SWEAR it's the scales, as they allege that I have put on 5kgs in about three weeks Sad, despite still being relatively good (it's not like I went running around eating tons of cakes and pasta - I wish)

Katisha · 10/08/2010 17:17

Well I bet a lot of that is water retention - you can't have put on 5kgs of fat in three weeks.
Odd though. Must be the scales. Or the time of day you wieghed yourself or something.A pint of water weighs a pound and a quarter - had you been chugging back tea just before getting on scales say?

kittya · 10/08/2010 17:28

I intend to start tomorrow. What kind of things do I need to get me through the first few days? is there any portion control?

AbsOfCroissant · 10/08/2010 17:30

It's a different scale, so I'm hoping that what's it down to.

Katisha · 10/08/2010 17:49

ABs - find the old scales!

Kittya - have you got the book and the right food all lined up? You need a fridge full of Muller Lite yoghurt, a cupboard full of bran, lots of water, tea, coffee, possibly some nurofen and a steely resolve. After the first couple of days you stop feeling hungry.

No portion control as long as it is only protein. I do recommend the omelette made with two eggs and a tablespoon of bran, plus some low fat cottage cheese or on its own for breakfast or lunch. Fills you up nicely.

AbsOfCroissant · 10/08/2010 17:50

The old scale is at a friend's flat. I think it's time for a visit.

Katisha · 10/08/2010 18:07

Absolutely - at least then you'll know what the damage really has been.

MissKateee · 11/08/2010 04:05

Hi all,
Just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm also on Dukan Diet. I started on Saturday so I'm now on day 5 of attack. No slip ups yet, and I lost 4kg (8.8lbs) after the first 3 days but nothing after the fourth. I was quite disappointed because I drank extra water yesterday and also got stuck into some pilates which I hadn't done on previous days. Anyway, I'm planning on doing the pur protein days alternating with protein and veg days starting on Friday. Really looking forward to it. Now I've gotten over the carb cravings, I'm really craving green veg.

About the ham stuff.. I think the reason it's not recommended might be because of the high salt content. Salt forces your body to retain fluid so that it can absorb it which might hinder your results in the water-weight-loss area. I'm not 100% sure though, I thought I read in the book that it was okay but I've been avoiding it for that reason. Pork and lamb are supposed to be avoided on attack phase, so I thought bacon and ham would come under the pork category, being from the same animal.

Anyway - congratulations to everyone out there who's lost/losing weight. I've discovered that it takes a lot of determination and will-power. This is my first diet (didn't seem to need it before my second baby), and so far I'm enjoying it. It's not easy, but it's also not as hard as I thought it would be.

For those of you starting out, it might be a good idea to to go to the official dukan diet website - they have a calculator there that estimates your 'true natural weight', as well as giving you an indication of how long you will spend on each stage. It's www.dukandiet.co.uk If I had $175AU (99GBP) to spend on the coaching, I think I'd do it, but the forums there are open to anyone who signs up to the site for free. They do have some helpful info on what is/isn't allowed and why.

Better go boil up some eggs for lunch. Don't think I can stand the thought of more dry chicken! Blush
