Hi everyone

Sorry I have not been around too much recently - RL has been calling...

Things are going well diet-wise. I am now seven weeks in and have lost 23lbs.

I can't say I have not had slip ups - I have always used food as a comforter and have had a few tough days where I have let my greed get the better of me, but I am trying!!

You may be interested to have a look at the Dukan website which is now up and running www.dukandiet.co.uk

I am struggling a bit at the moment with clothes - my work clothes make me look like a sack of spuds as they are too big, but I am loath to splash out when I have another stone to go...

Have a good weekend everyone.

Miggsie · 18/06/2010 12:30

I did not lose weight on the attack phase but I have now lost 8kg, so don't despair!!!!

woahthere · 18/06/2010 12:44

i was really losing faith and now you have reassured me! Did you that started to lose weight after a few days carry on on attack until the weight started coming off or did you start cruise on the day that you had set. I am on day 5 and have not lost any weight (weighed myself this morning and the lb i lost is back). I was due to start having veg tomorrow...should I? I felt really shaky yesterday nad really felt like i needed carbs. Today i was naughty (and disillusioned!) and had egg and bacon for my brekkie but ate the crispy fat bits and at playgroup ate a cube of cheese...this wont matter will it?

sara1265 · 18/06/2010 14:01

Its good to hear that there is still hope! I am gonna spend one more day on the attack and then move on to the alternate protein/veg and protein days.
Thanks for all the advice...nice to hear it from people who are actually trying the diet!

Lotkinsgonecurly · 18/06/2010 14:21

WOAHTHERE - me too, I've weighed myself today and not lost bloody anything. I cannot stick this much longer so am going to introduce veg. Have just started adding in the oatbran and I'm going to increase my water and exercise and think that this is it for the long haul! I've ordered the book too.

woahthere · 18/06/2010 18:38

i so cannot weight for some veg, i have been seeing stars today, im dreaming of cake...and i dont usually even like cake! its bloody annoying isnt it lotkins. maybe we'll wake up tomorrow half a stone lighter!

woahthere · 19/06/2010 20:46

well i didnt wake u phalf a stone lighter but i did wake up 3lbs lighter, whch is better than nothing. Have introduced veg today, had asparagus and salad. Was yummy!

Miggsie · 20/06/2010 13:19

Oh bummer, I seem to have reached the plateau!!!!

Just over 64kg last sunday and just under it this sunday.

I also have had a lot of stomach bloating for some reason...and bleugh! Finally got round to getting soem oat bran.
Ate it last night in yoghurt, how horrible. DH had some and commented "what a remarkable food stuff you have discovered".

Still, like true masochists we ate more this morning and thus ate far smaller portions for lunch than we normally would, so it has worked in that way.

Has anyone found a way to make oat bran palatable???!!!!!

Katisha · 20/06/2010 14:55

Miggsie have you tried it in the bran galette thing Dukan recommends? It's fine. You mix a tablesppon of bran, an egg and a spoon of whatever low fat dairy you are using (I do a tablespoon of cottage cheese) and fry it up. Have yet to master the art of flipping it over in one piece, or even in three whole pieces if I do small ones, so end up with a sort of branny scrambled egg/ omelette, but it tastes OK.

itstimmytime · 20/06/2010 17:04

Katisha - I find if you do the first half of cooking on hob in fry pan and the 2nd half under grill this makes a perfect gallette - took me ages to get the wee buggers right too! I also add smoked salmon flakes from m&s - it's really nice. I use 2xtbsp of quark, 2xtbsp oatbran, 1xtbsp of wheatbran, 1 egg and some salmon. Great breakfast and usually not hungry till the afternoon which for me is unheard of!

I also made turkey patties yesterday - 3xtbsp oatbran, 1 egg, 500g turkey mince and chilli flakes and seasoning ( I used 1/3 of one of those little 'shotz' packets for chicken) - made 7 burger sized patties and they were great for a pp day and still some left in fridge for lunch at work tomorrow.
Obvoiusly you shouldn't have gallette and patties in the same day, though.

I had a big moment of weakness today as I had a cupcake, a bit of jam sponge and strawberries and cream at a party. Been on wii fit for an hour, but I think Monday weigh in will be a disaster so might go hardcore attack for a couple of days and then weigh. On Tuesday, I'll have done 5 weeks on this diet and on the whole it is easy to follow, but this is the 3rd major hiccup (the other 2 have been alcohol!). I have lost 21 lbs, so can't complain really

Miggsie · 20/06/2010 17:33

I'll try the galette but I utterly detest pancakes, blinis, pikelets or any form of flat pan cooked round things...I suppose I'll have to try.

I don't have any no fat dairy stuff at the moment other than yoghurt.

I at least feel I'm really on a diet now as I'm eating truly nasty food!

Katisha · 20/06/2010 18:42

Well if you hate pancakes there's no real reason why you should like this.
I would just carry on sticking the bran in the yoghurt for now! I don't think the idea is to eat stuff you hate or else you will lose interest in the whole thing.

Katisha · 20/06/2010 18:44

Oh and thanks for the tips timmytime - yes I had thought about grilling the thing on its top side. Although actually I have got quite used to my mangled sawdust omelette!

woahthere · 20/06/2010 22:10

whoops. i had been so good, went for special family picnic...resisted scotch eggs, cocktail sausages and dutifully ate my chicken and spinach leaves and a yoghurt. And then....

Went out for evening meal, chose roast dinner, said would only eat veg and the meat and then scoffed all the roasties and stuffing too! Worse than that, I got home and had a big fat piece of chocolate cake...even worse, I am presently supping wine!!!

I think the problem was I was starving and I associate family picnics and meals out eating lots with joy and happiness, I also associate sunny evenings with wine...its bad I know it is, I only lasted a week until I cracked. I'll get back on it tomorrow...promise!

woahthere · 20/06/2010 22:14

I also still find it hard to accept I cant have fruit and stuff and dont know if I can completely resist. I see all my lovely redcurrants and peas getting all lovely and ripe in my garden and they just look so healthy and nutritious! Oh well, its not for forever, just till October I suppose.(hopefully)

androbbob · 20/06/2010 22:35

I made 'muffins' with my oatbran - not sure of the exact recipe as I found it on facebook - was a combo of egg, the bran, sweetner and yoghurt - I did mini ones in the silicon cases you can get in pound shops and they were ok. I put some cocoa powder in one batch while making normal choc muffins and ate them when out on a family trip - no one noticed!

I am back on the wagon tomorrow - been off it for two weeks as went on holiday, so will do attack for the next 5 days and see how I get on. only put 1lb back on of the 4 that I lost though!

cornishrex · 20/06/2010 22:37

OATBRAN - I actually started eating oatbran 20 yrs ago. Some doctors prescribe it to diabetics because it helps regulate their sugar levels I believe; or it might be just the huge impact on reducing cholesteral. Anyway, the way I was "taught" to eat it is as follows. It takes a little getting used to, but I love it now, and have loved it for yrs - 2 tbspoons; add to saucepan; just under a cup of boiling water (you need to play with the bran to water ratio so that it doesnt end up too watery);add to saucepan; bring to boil stirring rapidly (otherwise it sticks together); once boiling, leave it to simmer by itself for a few mins; pour into boil and leave to cool down for a few mins (as it cools its "sets" and becomes thicker). Basically, it tastes like porridge without milk. I guess you could do it with milk instead, but I've never tried that.

woahthere · 21/06/2010 12:34

i like this oatbran stuff, i stick it in my yoghurt, just had some 0% greek yoghurt with the oatbran and a bit of lemon flavouring..yummy. I am back on protein only day today, stonking hangover after wine last night but I have resisted the carbs thus far!

JessGsy · 21/06/2010 22:17

at last...a diet that actually works

BecauseImWorthIt · 21/06/2010 22:22

I've just bought the book, so have read this thread with much interest.

I'm away this weekend with DH in Istanbul, so not planning on doing any kind of diet (!), but will be starting on the attack phase when I return.

bratnav · 22/06/2010 01:27

Ok, had 3 days off as this weekend we had DDs birthday and all the DCs Christening. There was no way that I was spending a week cooking and assembling a buffet for 45 people and not eating any of it.

Going back on attack for a week starting tomorrow then cruising.

woahthere · 22/06/2010 21:30

well i am 9 days in and have lost f all even though my boyfriend says i look smaller. my metabolism is so bloody crap, i am a mm away from throwing it in, afer all whats the point in all this effort if it doesnt work...anyone?

Katisha · 22/06/2010 21:46

Is you period due at all whoahthere? I know this puts all weightloss on hold for more than a week for me.

sara1265 · 22/06/2010 22:15

I have been eating the oatbran for breakfast with skimmed milk...like porridge. It actually tastes ok and is more enjoyable the more you eat it. On day 7 now and am now starting to notice a difference in weight, but still feeling dizzy and lethargic most of the time. I miss my fruit too!

CrystalTits · 23/06/2010 11:44

Can I join in? I bought the book at the weekend and started the Attack phase on Monday. I'm losing 1 to 2lbs a day so far, and surprisingly haven't felt hungry (although I have eaten a LOT of protein!). Poached salmon, packs of ham, pepper steak, prawns, eggs - you name it.

I haven't found oatbran anywhere, can wheatbran be substituted, or does this have a different effect?

I also made the mistake of very smugly eating an Activia fat free yoghurt yesterday, then later realised that it was full of fruit! Durrr.

Hoping to keep going for another couple of days, I have just over half a stone more to lose in total.
