My mother is the exact opposite...she won't venture from her house unless she is carrying at least one huge cool box stuffed full of sarnies

Ann - well done on train tickets - which train company did you book through? i've managed to get a train for them (Eurostar) from Paris to London on Monday night but they've no way of getting from Geneva to Paris at the moment. Can you believe the French train drivers are ON STRIKE?????

ReshapeWhileDamp · 17/04/2010 11:34

Cheeese - you got a eurostar on monday?? Wow, well done. Maybe I can get DH one too. When did you book it and who through?

Strike is just the end. Arghhh!

MmeLindt · 17/04/2010 12:06

How can they strike at a time like this?

Dh off with colleagues in a hire car from Geneva to Munich as we very much doubt the flight tomorrow will go

Three women, one phoned this morning and demanded that DH inform her IMMEDIATELY if he wanted to fo with them. She was rather strident. Will be fun journey.

They got the last hire car in geneva (sorry cheese)

No idea why kind of car it is but it is a 4 seater and costing CHF 1600 (about £900) for Geneva to Munich ie. one day

Bloody crooks. Sure they have hiked up their prices

CheeeseOnToast · 17/04/2010 13:07

Reshape I just rang eurostar at 9am this morning, the second they opened. Waited in an automated queue for 35 mins, and the first one available was Monday. It is Monday night, about 9pm. She said they might be releasing more tickets for tomorrow so it's worth trying. She was v v helpful actually, happy to wait while I rang mum to check which name she has on passport (long story!). It was £169 each I think plus few quid booking fee.

Mmelindt I couldn't find a single place accepting 'different destination' car hires. Your DH was v lucky!

I've also managed to get a coach for them from geneva tonght, to arrive in Paris tomorrow am. So they've got one night and two days in Paris before eurostar to London.

DP has now sorted a coach from Milan to London, at extortionate cost. One of his friends got a minibus sent from London to go and pick them up from Milan!

I am bloody exhausted now. Right, off to meet friend. Were not doing Wagas after all, going to find a bar in the sun, drink rose and think I'll have some form of fish or salado.

Themasterandmargaritas · 17/04/2010 13:38

Bloody hell Cheese, can I use you to book our next holiday?

It would really be bloody annoying after all that effort, if they went and opened European airspace tonight and he simply hopped on a plane and came home wouldn't it?

MmeLindt · 17/04/2010 14:04

My God, Cheese, that is incredible.

Master&M
I don't think that it is likely that they will be opening the airspace tonight. The Swiss certainly are being very cautious. (as they are wont to do)

I had a Magnum Gold ice cream

I decided that it was going to temp me ALL summer, they have a big sign up at the Buvette next to the beach, so I might as well get it out of the way and have one today. I love caramel and chocolate and icecream so the thought of denying myself all summer was terrible.

It was not that great and now I can enjoy the summer knowing that I have had one and it was not worth it.

Not very Zoney but it works for me.

Cheese
Have a biiiig glass of wine. You must have burned off 500 cals with all the time you spent on the phone.

BudaisintheZONE · 17/04/2010 14:37

Had soup for lunch and some rye bread with hummus followed by a low fat rhubarb yoghurt.

Dinner will be lamp chops with roasted veg and salad.

My Dad has just commented that we could probably get bikes cheap and cycle to Budapest!!!! He has just been told to bugger off!

JackBauer · 17/04/2010 14:58

Thanks for shout, needed it.
So far small bowl alpen, LOTS of water, mug carrot and coriander soup and one dinner roll.
I know I am trying no carbs, but would normally have had 2 or 3, so it's better [shame]

chicken stir fry for tea, will do rice for DD's, DH at work until 10 so have frozen pizza for him.

Travel stuff sounds horrific, have had my sister on the phone worrying as she and mum are going to egypt in 12 days and 'I don't want to get stuck there and not be able ot buy things' May I steal the 'ffs, it's not outer mongolia' line?
I pointed out that for all we know etna could go up and no-one will be able to fly for 5 years. She was not amused. I was though.
Done 20 minutes cross trainer and 8 minute tummy thing.

Very jealous of wagamama talk, we don't have one[ency]

AnnDaloozier · 17/04/2010 15:00

that loud parenting thread is UNBELIEVABLE

AnnDaloozier · 17/04/2010 15:22

brother etc now in switz

funny emails from him

"Due tight timing told all grandparents to go to loo before train arrived.

Then uphill battle with mum who wanted to buy icecreams instead of getting on the next train.
"

AnnDaloozier · 17/04/2010 15:23

the one before was this
"wife and I feel like parents with 6 children. All met at station today and no-one had brought any food or drink for themselves despite knowing they would be on trains for 15 hours today !"

JackBauer · 17/04/2010 15:33

Ann, you parents must be the only old people I have ever heard of that don't contingency plan, even when not needed. Your brother must be climbing walls!

AnnDaloozier · 17/04/2010 15:35

i know that is the thing - my mum is mrs packed lunch - save money etc

Themasterandmargaritas · 17/04/2010 15:42

It's because they is on their hols. When you are on holiday you stop being organised. Especially if there is someone else to do it.

Saw that thread, why are people just so ANGRY all the time?

MmeLindt · 17/04/2010 15:49

Ann
stick to your airing cupboard. Loud parenting thread incredible.

JackBauer · 17/04/2010 16:22

Ooh, went off to read loud parenting thread, nice.

House is a tip now as I daren't go and mooch around the kitchen tidying to avoid temptation to snack. Didn't think this through so have nothing 'good' to snack on and lots of choc still left over. Plus no money to fix it, bugger.

What if their noses need blowing?

bobbiewickham · 17/04/2010 16:26

I think that loud parenting thread is fecking hilarious.

MUMMY IS DETERMINED TO BE OFFENDED AND WON'T HAVE OTHER MUMMIES BEING HUMOUROUS NOR REASONABLE.

WILL SHE JOCASTA? NO, MUMMY WON'T.

Am subsisting on melba toasts and breadsticks. But down to 11 4 today, so...every cloud.

dinkystinky · 17/04/2010 19:06

Afternoon all - Ann/Su glad your parents and bro are on their way back to the UK but dont envy your poor brother having to act as their minder/chaperone/nanny all the way back home.... Cheese - well done on your sorting out return journey for your family too. Reshape - good luck for your DH.

Suffering from kitchen overload after looking at kitchens this morning -who knew there were so many fecking different types of drawer/cupboards/surfaces out there, never mind the ovens etc. Saw a £8k fridge too - and it wasnt even gold plated. Seriously who would spend that much on a FRIDGE?? DH then fecked off to go leave rugby for the day leaving me with DS1 (who was good as gold most of the time) and DS2 (who was a teething nightmare). DH now back and pissed. Grr. Now v tempted to dive headfirst into chocolate as one parent needs to be sober to deal with the teething monster. Aargh.

dinkystinky · 17/04/2010 19:07

Oooh Bobbie - another couple of days of this lurgie and you'll have disappeared!

JunoWatt · 17/04/2010 19:25

brotehr emails he is having fun on teh train

JunoWatt · 17/04/2010 19:27

have we dont the initiation routine to jack bauer

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 17/04/2010 19:29

Loud parenting thread so depressing - sense of humour and self deprecation clearly been surgically removed. Does no one think their parenting is a bit shite sometimes and can laugh about it?

cyb · 17/04/2010 19:33
