Anyone else doing 30 day shred?

I heard lots about it and got the dvd. I'm on day 2 and can feel my muscles aching!
I'm trying to combine it with a diet too.

Is anyone else doing this/thinking of doing it?

Does anyone know where I can get a UK DVD player compatible version of No More Trouble Zones? Not sure if this exists, but thought I would check on MN wisdom!

LostGirl · 17/05/2010 16:51

I don't think you can shinyboots, but you can buy a dvd player which is compatible with the US verison for about 15 quid.

Well |I have just done day 1 level 3, and as my 2 yr old DD would say - me no like ! The cardio is harder and the jumping is very bizarre - hurts my shins. But I think Level 2 is harder all round...After Level 2 I felt like death but I feel like I could do this again now. Will perservere and see how it goes-maybe I'm doing it all wrong!

BattyKoda · 17/05/2010 20:00

3Happy - shoulder rais/side lunge I think it is? Absolute killer! I find the bicep curl/lunge the hardest though, as well as press ups and all of the ab work of course!!

Done again today so am back on track and will be on level 1 day 7 tomorrow! Have to say I can really feel my stamina increasing! I might start up my jogging again to do in addition, really need to shift my tummy - and double chin - in time for the wedding!

Tortoise · 17/05/2010 20:02

Thanks for Birthday wishes. Don't feel like i have seen her for much of her Birthday as she was at school. Then we went to the park until 5pm.
Felt bit more achy today. Ready to shred once DS1 and DS2 are in bed!

simmo39 · 17/05/2010 21:38

Have missed a couple of days so day 10 level 1 tomorrow. Looking forward to level 2. Think my arms are staring to tone a bit. No real difference on the abs, but from reading everyones comments sounds like level 2 might help there.
Well done everyone, we should all get shares in this DVD!

Day 14 (day 5 workout 2).
Struggled tonight! Arms were worn out from the start! Hard to immagine being ready for workout 3 in just 5 more days.

Piffle · 17/05/2010 22:35

Have had 4 days off as Ds2 has Chicken Pox and while he would make a robust leg weight, I feel improper not hitting the couch with him and doling out piriton and calamine...
Starting again though once this has passed

Tortoise · 17/05/2010 22:51

Piffle Hope DS2 is better soon and you can get back to shredding.

justaminute · 17/05/2010 23:14

Did day 1 today of my second round of shredding. It felt good. Made me realise how far I've come in just over a month. Apart from the push ups I followed Natalie. It was still a challenging workout but unlike the first round I'm not walking like a cowboy

mummytotwins · 17/05/2010 23:39

Day 2 of level 3 done! felt a bit more sweaty today, obviously I dint try hard enough yesterday lol!!

Annoyingly I ganined again at ww this week grrrrrrrrrrrr! gained a pound last week and half a pound today. Part of me wants to stop shredding to see the numbers on the scale go down but I have got this far!!!!

I know Im gaining muscle but its so disheartening!!

LostGirl · 18/05/2010 07:38

mummytotwins, tbh it probably isn't muscle as it takes a loooonnnng time to build any discernable muscle mass (I'm currently following a heavy lifting programme and have been told I would be lucky to build 10lbs of muscle in 6 MONTHS, and that's only if I follow the 'diet' and eat about 140g of protein a day!). However it could be that you are not drinking enough water since you started shredding and your body and your muscles are retaining and holding onto more water because of the increased exercise. You can combat this by increasing the amount of water you are drinking, once your body knows more fluids are coming in regularly then it will stop retaining the water if that makes sense?

BattyKoda · 18/05/2010 08:01

LostGirl - thats really useful to know! I'm finding that I've been really bloated, do you think thats because of the same reason?

notyummy · 18/05/2010 08:01

piffle - would DS 2 not find amusing to watch you shredding from his place on the couch? Just trying to think of ways of not letting you fall off the wagon - it is easy to do when there are so many demands on your time. Will he watch or nod off for 20 minutes? Can you unpeel him from you just for a little while?

BattyKoda · 18/05/2010 08:05

Notyummy - when my DS watches (4yo) he sits there saying 'just don't do it Mummy!' I think he gets worried because of the amount of noise I make . DS2 (15mo) trys to join in

LostGirl · 18/05/2010 08:13

BattyKoda, not sure tbh, am far from being an expert on this! I was told that most women will see the scales go up during the first couple of weeks of a weight training programme due to your muscles retaining water (which can also lead to temporary slightly 'swollen' looking muscles which lead women to worry they are going to 'bulk up' using heavier weights) but as long as you drink water regularly throughout the day then your body knows it is going to get a regular supply so it doesn't need to hold onto the water.

LostGirl · 18/05/2010 08:16

My dd used to sit there saying, 'You're doing it wrong, they haven't stopped yet'

Joby1970 · 18/05/2010 08:16

Also the more muscle mass you have the higher your metabolism & therefore the more calories you burn even at rest.

LostGirl · 18/05/2010 08:19

Exactly my reason for weight training Joby, I can eat more

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 18/05/2010 09:24

Well, I've managed 2 days running of level 1 - a first for me!

Today I'm in two minds whether to go to the gym to justify my membership or try the Nia class a friend's asked if I'd like to go to.

I think Nia is a kind of dance/martial arts/ yoga combo, which could be excrutiatingly embarrassing or could be the answer to my back pain woes - maybe I'll ditch the housework and do both!

Nolda, glad to hear the knee exercises helped - I've started doing them daily as I think the shred is potentially very knee-straining.

BattyKoda · 18/05/2010 09:44

Day 7 Level one done. Really struggled today though, think it might be to do with the double whammy yesterday!

Well done OurLady!

YarninMonkey · 18/05/2010 11:21

I think i'm doing something wrong. Day 1 - level 1 on sunday. I managed it well, am alread quite fit, use rowing machine regulary, hill walking etc..but am still in a lot of pain in thighs!! Still taking pain killers etc!! WTF??

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 18/05/2010 11:43

Maybe you're pushing yourself too hard in the squats and lunges.

< speaking as a 2-day expert > Take it easy to begin with and you'll find your strength will build up surprisingly quickly.

From an expert at plunging in full-tilt then not being able to move for a week afterwards - counter-productive.

YarninMonkey · 18/05/2010 12:02

Thanks OLOPS hopefully will be able to tackle it again tomorrow. I probably was a bit too enthusiastic!!
