LetThemEatCake · 17/01/2010 23:10

dc3 is nearly 4m. From past experience, I know that my baby weight tends to drop off once I start weaning ... but am quite keen to get a head start this time round.

Anyone in the same boat and fancy joining me? could use the support!!

tots2ten · 17/01/2010 23:23

I will join you. dc6 is 11weeks old today, since she was born I have lost over 2 stone, I am lighter now than I have been for nearly 3 years.

chocolaterabbit · 18/01/2010 10:22

I'll join too - really not meaning to follow you round the board so much - you start very good threads!

I am currently bfing DS - nearly 14 weeks. I'm almost back at my pre-pregnancy weight but that was a good 1.5 stone over my ideal weight so am planning to use this opportunity to lose a bit of extra weight if possible.

Have mostly cut out cake except after really bad nights and replaced with bananas/apples/carrot or DD's uneaten dinner. Am doing okay, just need to keep the motivation up to keep going.

LetThemEatCake · 18/01/2010 10:43

right, brilliant! we have a club And it's nice to see you again chocrabbit, we must have a lot in common!

Shall we start by logging our stats??

I'm 5'10" and was anywhere between 10 & 10 stone 7lb before I got pregnant with dc3. End of preg weight was 12st8. Bub weighed 8lb1.

Last time I weighed myself (beginning of December) I was 11st4. Then battery ran out on scales and have resisted replacing as I tend to be ruled by the numbers ... am back in pretty much all of my pre-preg clothes but they're not fitting as nicely as they used to.

Who's up for doing a food & exercise log as well?

OP posts:
tots2ten · 18/01/2010 10:51

Im 5'10" weighed on Saturday 17st 7 too heavy I'm a size 20.

I would love to get down to 14stone to begin with. But i am going i stone at a time.

I have just signed up to do the Race for Life again this year. I am hoping to jog most of the way around, last year i was 26 weeks pregnant and walked it. So i have a goal to aim for.

chocolaterabbit · 18/01/2010 12:06

I'm 5'4" and atm weigh 11 stone. My normal pre-pregnancy weight was 10stone 6 but that was partly not bothering to lose some of the weight I put on when pg with DD and pre-DCs eating out an awful lot. I'm aiming for 9 stone as I'm a generous 14 at the moment and am so short it is noticeable.

I've signed up to do the Macmillan virtual 5k at the end of March so have been out for a run today with DS in the pushchair. Unfortunately he is now fast asleep and din't want to eat before we set off so I'll probably have to express in a bit.

I'm generally okay on puddings and cake - I'm not a big fan of chocolate (despite the name!) but love love carbs particularly chips/ crisps/ bread and wine although not much of that at the moment...

LetThemEatCake · 18/01/2010 20:42

okay, so we have goals and everything, brilliant! I haven't signed up for any races this year but I was comfortably running 10k a few times a week before getting pg with dc3, so I'd like to get back to that level. Weight-wise, I feel best (mentally) at 10st, though realistically I probably look ok at 10st4

so, today's food log for me:

porridge with rice milk, banana and honey
2 apples
handful of grapes
squash & spinach risotto (no butter or cheese)
3 coffees (with milk and sugar )
1 tea (ditto )

am going to replace scales batteries, should we weigh in weekly or is that too WW??

OP posts:
EsmeWeatherwax · 18/01/2010 21:04

Hi, can I join in too? DD2 is 8 months, but still bfeeding quite a bit. I'm also 5'11, weigh 18 stone far too much! Started Slimming world last week too, but all support is fab! I'd like to lose a good few stone before dsil's wedding in July, all the inlaws are skinny and lovely, and I'm fed up being the fat pie at the bake sale!

LetThemEatCake · 18/01/2010 21:11

welcome Esme!!

what's your food intake today??

(btw, I am hoping that you guys will berate me for wrong choices/ tell me where I'm going wrong - is everyone okay with this?)

OP posts:
EsmeWeatherwax · 18/01/2010 21:57

Thanks for the welcome! My food intake has been well high today, but all free food as designed by slimming world, one of the reasons I like it is cos it really does encourage you to eat healthily, and cut out much of the rubbish!

mrswill · 18/01/2010 23:34

Over from another board - Has anyone tried low carb, it really gets the weight off. But as Ive stopped bf a few months ago, im not sure what effect this diet would have on breastmilk. Just a thought. Only a stone to go to squeeze into size 10 already bought eyewateringly expensive dress

LetThemEatCake · 18/01/2010 23:45

low carb can apparently affect taste of bm - read about it in this book and didn't want to take the risk

I compromise with no carbs after 5pm.

OP posts:
mrsbean78 · 19/01/2010 00:03

Hi
My ds is 7 weeks tomorrow.. I am 5ft 8, was 12st 10 before pg, heaviest ever in my life following extended steroids after an illness the previous year.. put on 2st 10, lost a lot in first week, now seem to be yo-yoing up and down from 13st 10 to 14st.

Don't really want to do anything to compromise supply at all, but don't want to sit around eating cakes either and I am either very very good or very very bad.
How many calories should I be aiming for, reasonably, anyone know?

I would love to be 12st 10 again by March June, then focus on the rest of it.

chocolaterabbit · 19/01/2010 11:12

I think bf allows an extra 500 calories per day.

I'm sort of doing WW and have been losing around 3lb per week (except over Christmas when I didn't count). On WW, you can have 30 points while bf.

Yesterday, I had a skinny latte no sugar, lots of tea with milk and no sugar, a tuna sandwich, packet of crisps and apple, 2 pieces of toast and butter and another apple and puttanesca pasta for tea.

I find it really helps if I can eat tea with DD at 5.30 rather than with DH at 9, but it really does depend on the DCs letting me cook.

tots2ten · 19/01/2010 21:47

Todays food list (yesterdays was really bad)

2 weetabix with banana and milk
3 cups of coffee
chips for lunch
about 2 pints of water throughout the day
tinned tomatoes on toast for tea

But instead of taking the car to pick ds1 up from school i have been walking.

LetThemEatCake · 19/01/2010 21:58

hello all!! I ordered a new set of bathroom scales last night so will hopefully be able to log accurate weight in the next few days.

I agree, eating with the kids at 5pm helps a lot... mrsbean, I've heard that bfing is 500-700 kcals a day. Watching your intake apparently does little to diminish supply as long as you are getting good fats (nuts, avocadoes etc) and not being toooo restrictive (it's been pointed out to me before that malnourished women bf, and I guess that's a good point to bear in mind)

SO .. the average woman's intake should be about 2000kcal per day, a dieter should aim for 1200-1500. So if you go for 2000-2200 a day, that should allow for dieting and bfing.

food today
porridge with rice milk & sultanas
banana
2 slices rye bread with soy butter
steamed kale and beans
zero fat yoghurt with blueberries
3 coffees

well done on the water tots, I am rubbish with remembering to drink water. Do you think you need some more fruit and veggies in your diet though? You have a new baby and SIX children - got to keep your strength up!

OP posts:
tots2ten · 20/01/2010 06:50

I normally eat lots of fruit and veg, just had a few bad days (which is why i did not put the food list up for the day before , my sister and her partner are not getting on so she spent 2 days with me.

New baby is number 6 I am off to the shops this morning to get more salad.

mrsbean78 · 20/01/2010 10:03

You all seem really good.. but it seems very little food to me? Am I so fat I have forgotten what normal food intake is like!

I still haven't started, tbh. Just gearing up for it by thinking about it and starting back with the exercise. I've stayed at 13 12 and a half for two weeks now, so I guess my current intake is sustaining that.

Yesterday I had:
Porridge with cranberries and raisins (157cals)
A flapjack midmorning (part of the crazy oat kick for supply ) (187 cals)
Half a waitrose chicken curry and rice (510 cals), extra spinach
Carrot sticks
Chicken fillets, some wedges, spinach and peas (about a 1000!)
thee mini feasts and 5 toffees

Yeah, messed up with the treats. But hey, I walked 5 miles!

I'm not so great with WW type diets. I usually calorie count, as I've found I can eat a lot more than WW would allow and lose weight sustainably over time. Before my wedding, I lost 2 stone through walking and eating 1750 cals a day over about six months and kept most of it off for over a year, before the dratted illness that stopped the walking (and coincided with wolfing down far too many goodies). Mind you, I was 9 and a half stone after that and pretty skeletal, too thin for me now I look back on the photos.

I read something once that said you should try to be realisic about goal weights by looking at where your weight naturally bottomed out when not dieting. Throughout school (long time ago) was 11-11st 4, size 12-14 and this is usually an easy enough weight for me to get back to, the work kicks in after that. Have decided that 10st10 to 11st 4 is probably my normal kind of weight.

Oh why can't we just have a magic wand!

hobbgoblin · 20/01/2010 10:12

Can ~I join late in the day?

My DD is 6 months. I was 8st 6lbs - 9st before pregnancy, and am 5 ft 2

Was trying to get down to 7 and a half stone before I became pregnant!

So, I lost lots of baby weight in first 2-3 months after birth but as ALWAYS happens with me, I've started gaining as bf became more and more established. This has happened with all of my 4 babies.

I'm now up to about 10 stone and getting very upset about it.

Yesterday, I had no brek, no lunch but then a prawn wrap for early tea and then about 3 biscuits and some green and black's choc. I had a corner of baguette with pate after I put DC to bed.

Very erratic.

Just a coffee so far today.

bedhed · 20/01/2010 13:36

Can I also join please? DD 6 weeks and I am the heaviest i have ever been. Not following a diet as such but trying to cut down on cheese, chocolate, finishing DS's meals and post pregnancy portion size. Also going to exercise more. Have used the food focus website since Monday to get an idea of calorie intake and so far i have been just under 2000.

I am currently 10 stone 9lbs, pre-pregnancy was around 9 stone (am 5ft 4). Would like to loose excess by the summer as I do not want to buy a new wardrobe.

Good luck to everyone!

GoldenSnitch · 20/01/2010 13:53

Can I join too? DD is 5 weeks old tomorrow. I'm 5' 1" and 71kgs/11 stone 2lbs!!

I lost 7kgs/15.5lbs giving birth and another 2kgs/4.4lbs since I got home but want to lose another 10kgs and get down to 51kgs/8 stone

Naetha · 20/01/2010 15:49

Ooh can I join this one too?

DD is 6 weeks and I'm determined that "this is it". I am going to diet down to my ideal weight and then stick there. I'm not so much a yo-yo dieter as a "give up after a week" dieter, so hopefully this one will stick

Technically I started my diet over a week ago, and I was 90.5kg (scales only measures in kg!). Weighed myself this morning and I was 87.5kg, so already lost 3kg, which is reassuring!

I was 89kgs at my booking in, and 102kgs at birth, so happy with my achievements so far.

My aim is to reach 75kgs (just under 12 stone) by 1st July. I'm going to try and keep my max weight as 77kgs (my weight fluctuates through the month anyway) and if I go above that weight, then diet until I'm back to 75kgs.

I'm going to reward myself with a tattoo on my foot/ankle/lower leg (lol sounds huge but it won't be!) as it will be a motivator/reminder to keep the weight off, and also I won't want to be showing it off if I've got chubby ankles!

I'd like to start doing proper exercise, but realistically that will have to wait until DD is in a more settled evening routine. I'll probably join the local thai boxing club and give that a go (always been into martial arts). Until then, I'll have to rely on lugging my P&T around three or four times a week

I'm loosely using Food Focus (more for guidance and weight logging than strict calorie logging) and generally trying to low carb it. So far not going too badly. I'm doing well with all bran and a handful of raisins for breakfast and stir fry / omelette / soup for lunch then my normal dinner.

I'm so looking forwards to being thin

tots2ten · 20/01/2010 21:36

10poundstogo · 20/01/2010 23:43

can I join you? DS is 11 months. I am 5'3". Before dd was 9 stone size 8, after dd was 12.5 stone size 16(sob). Got back down to 9.5 stone and size 10 before DS conceived, was 10.5 after birth, got down to 9.5 stone but then have been total pig over christmas and am now 10 stone. DETERMINED to get back into 9 stone size 8 clothes even though they have gone out of fashion by now. still BF about 6 times a day, DS is a total boob fiend. I'm starting work beg of march so want to shift at least half a stone by then so I can squeeze into work clothes. Too ashamed to write todays food list, reckon this will help me focus. when DS was fully breast feeding was doing about 28 WW points and weight was dropping off, not sure how many points to go for now he's on 3 big dinner a day...gonna try 22 I think.

hobbgoblin · 21/01/2010 11:49

have had a coffee and a plum baby minky moon today - weekend will be bad because i am away

on the plus side - weighed self in boots, clothes, coat, hat and scarf and was still same weight as earlier this week so in theory, naked i weigh less

naked with dry hair is what counts innit?!
